I do not think so because it just a question of one simple patch in a package.

I updated the branches upstream/latest, pristine-tar, and merged
also into debian/master, but won't have much time these days to
finish the package.

Please feel free to continue and - if you like - add yourself to
Uploaders.

Btw: I assume, that a soname change is needed.
