Bug#907802: gnome-session: Login to Xorg session impossible using lightdm and sddm

2018-11-26 Thread Adrian Immanuel Kieß
Hello Simon,

I got gnome-session and some other GTK and GNOME applications working
using export GSETTINGS_SCHEMA_DIR="/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/" in
~/.xinitrc.

But currently some GTK and GNOME applications still fail to load, please
see my reply to bug report #906799 and my new bug report #914697.

When logging in to gnome-session through SDDM there is still no login
possible. Login to Enlightenment and fluxbox are working through SDDM, but
afterwards GTK and GNOME applications fail to load (with no error shown).

I tried to search for this bug but couldn't find any solution.

A happy christmas time wishes you,

Adrian Immanuel Kiess

Bug#907802: gnome-session: Login to Xorg session impossible using lightdm and sddm

2018-09-02 Thread Adrian Immanuel Kieß
Hello Simon,

gnome-session is installed:

gnome-session is already the newest version (3.28.1-1).

dpkg-reconfigure libglib2.0-0:amd64 returns:

root@g6 (~) % dpkg-reconfigure libglib2.0-0:amd64
root@g6 (~) %

I tried with gedit and evolution, these return the error No GSettings
schemas are installed when launched from inside twm and won't start.

Yours sincerely,

Adrian

Do you have the gnome-session package installed?

Which GNOME application?

If you run this as root:

dpkg-reconfigure libglib2.0-0:amd64

what output do you get?

Bug#907802: gnome-session: Login to Xorg session impossible using lightdm and sddm

2018-09-02 Thread Adrian Immanuel Kieß
Hello Simon,

appended to this message the requested output of /var/log/syslog.

It seems to fail here:

Sep 2 16:55:34 g6 gnome-session-binary[23677]: GLib-GIO-ERROR: No
GSettings schemas are installed on the system#012aborting...

Also I get this error when launching a GNOME application from a simple
window manager like twm and the GNOME application won't start.

Hopefully you can help here.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Adrian

Please look in the system log (systemd journal or /var/log/syslog) for
more information about what happened, and send log messages around the time

Bug#907802: gnome-session: Login to Xorg session impossible using lightdm and sddm

2018-09-02 Thread Adrian Immanuel Kiess
Package: gnome-session-bin
Version: 3.28.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
 Upgrading the system
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Login to GNOME session (Xorg) using a display manager such as lightdm and
sddm no longer works
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Working login to a GNOME session using a standard display manager

in Debian/testing I can't login to a Xorg GNOME session using a standard
display manager such as
lightdm or sddm for a certain time. Thishow I like to report this bug.

Login to a GNOME session (Xorg) works fine using xinit and .xinitrc from a
login to the console.
Also I can login to Enlightnment and twm from a display manager such as lightdm
and ssdm, which
works fine.

Login from a display manager using "GNOME" or "Default Xession" (which has exec
gnome-session at
the end) does not work.

Can you please have a look at this. I can't find any errors in .xsession-
errors. After supplying
the correct password the screen gets blank something tries to load and then I
get thrown back
to the login window of the display manager.

Thank you very much,

Adrian Immanuel Kieß
