Package: dpkg
Version: 1.19.2
Severity: minor
File: /usr/share/man/man1/dpkg.1.gz

After:

       -r, --remove package...|-a|--pending
              Remove an installed package. This removes everything
except conffiles, which may avoid having to
              reconfigure the package if it is reinstalled later (conffiles are
configuration files that are listed in
              the  DEBIAN/conffiles  control  file).

Important to please add:

"If there is no DEBIAN/conffiles control file, then --remove is exactly
equivalent to --purge."

Else users will wonder why some
dpkg --remove $@ && dpkg --purge $@
will succeed, and some will fail.

Especially as you also say

       -P, --purge package...|-a|--pending
              Purge an installed or already removed package.
