Joey: Thanks for your post in 2019 - I had the same problem of the
browser not starting up when requested through the application menu -
investigating it seems to be a bad symbols problem:

./firefox.real: ./TorBrowser/Tor/libstdc++.so.6: version
`GLIBCXX_3.4.21' not found (required by ./firefox.real)

Removing the local installation and having the launcher reinstall it worked:

rm -rf /home/omega/.local/share/torbrowser
======================================================================
