Package: usb-modeswitch Version: 2.5.2+repack0-2 Severity: normal In a mostly up-to-date "testing", but a past kernel 4.4, and running "init", usb-modeswitch no longer creates the /dev/gsmmodem symlink when a 3G mobile serial modem is plugged in. Instead it creates an ordinary empty file there (and possibly /dev/gsmmodem2 sometimes).
With logging enabled, /var/log/usb_modeswitch_ttyUSB_1-5:1.5 contains Return symlink name "gsmmodem" and exit which I thought is normal and could suggest usb_modeswitch_dispatcher is correctly reporting, so blame may lie elsewhere -- but I couldn't tell where. The actual mode switch is ok and can point ppp at /dev/ttyUSB4 or whatever. -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 4.4.0-1-686-pae (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_AU.iso88591, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.iso88591 (charmap=ISO-8859-1), LANGUAGE=en_AU:en_GB:en (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: sysvinit (via /sbin/init) Versions of packages usb-modeswitch depends on: ii libc6 2.28-8 ii libjim0.77 0.77+dfsg0-3 ii libusb-1.0-0 2:1.0.22-2 ii usb-modeswitch-data 20170806-2 usb-modeswitch recommends no packages.
