Possibly related, I can cause html2text to run out of memory with the
following one-line HTML file involving colspan:

/tmp$ cat temp.html
<table><tr><td colspan="100%"><hr></td></tr></table>
/tmp$ html2text < temp.html
html2text: error: Cannot allocate memory
Aborted
