These look similar, though they don't point at a resolution:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199887
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1121319

Seemingly introduced in 4.11.

So this controller is:

06:01.0 Fibre Channel [0c04]: QLogic Corp. ISP2312-based 2Gb Fibre Channel to
PCI-X HBA [1077:2312] (rev 02)
Subsystem: QLogic Corp. ISP2312-based 2Gb Fibre Channel to PCI-X HBA
[1077:010a]
Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV+ VGASnoop- ParErr+
Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- DisINTx-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort-
SERR-
Kernel driver in use: qla2xxx
Kernel modules: qla2xxx

Bug#939873: qla2xxx .. Async-gnlist failed

2019-09-09 Thread Peter Palfrader
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.19.67-2
Severity: important

The buster kernel, as well as the backports kernel
(linux-image-5.2.0-0.bpo.2-amd64 5.2.9-2~bpo10+1) fail to boot
sibelius.debian.org, which has some storage attached to it via,
presumably, FC.

The kernel keeps printing

| qla2xxx [...]-...: Async-gpdb failed - hdl=.. ...

and systemd keeps waiting for the devices to appear.

Screenshot of remote console attached.
