Taking the england-latest.osm.pbf from
https://download.geofabrik.de/europe/great-britain.html it does fail
with 0.5.4 after several minutes of processing with (not a segfault
per say but still failing):

Trying to use maptool with a .pbf file gave a segfault almost
immediately. Compiling my own maptool directly from the navit git
gave a working version.
