Package: initscripts Severity: normal In the initscripts package, we ship a tmpfs(5) manpage that documents how the (sysv) init systems handles and configures tmpfs.
Historically, this was done because we had a /etc/init.d/tmpfs thing that would create the tmpfs on the fly. But now we can specify the tmpfs as any other filesystem in /etc/fstab and, from what I understand, sysvinit will handle that just fine. But there *is* an "upstream" (as in "official manpages") manpage for tmpfs(5) that has its own documentation of the filesystem and how to configure it in /etc/fstab. When a system does not have initscripts installed (e.g. any Debian system with the default configuration since stretch at least), the tmpfs(5) manpage is simply unavailable because of this conflict. How about we put this one to rest and revert back to the upstream documentation? It would for both new and old and will make all our lives much easier. :) The corrolary to this would be to reintroduce the tmpfs(5) manpage in the manpages package, which was removed in #847998.
