I was looking for what sbuild option I might use if I wanted to make gcc a symlink to Clang for a session, without modifying the source chroot. sbuild(1) says --starting-build-commands=string Run these commands after dependencies are installed, just before the package build with dpkg-buildpackage starts. The command is run as the (non-root) user running sbuild inside the chroot. Non-root, so it sounds like it wouldn't do the job. However the table lower down says this: command/action root chroot %c %e %d,%p ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── ... --starting-build-commands yes inside no no yes Run dpkg-buildpackage This indicates that the commands *are* run as root. Since my symlink command works it's probably the former that's wrong. - -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (2, 'unstable'), (1, 'testing-debug'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 5.6.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_USER, TAINT_FIRMWARE_WORKAROUND Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE= (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages sbuild depends on: ii adduser 3.118 ii libsbuild-perl 0.79.1-1 ii perl 5.30.2-1 Versions of packages sbuild recommends: ii autopkgtest 5.13.1 ii debootstrap 1.0.123 ii schroot 1.6.10-9 Versions of packages sbuild suggests: pn deborphan <none> ii e2fsprogs 1.45.6-1 ii kmod 27+20200310-2 ii wget 1.20.3-1+b2 - -- no debconf information -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iHUEARYIAB0WIQT287WtmxUhmhucNnhyvHFIwKstpwUCXs1aRwAKCRByvHFIwKst pxYDAP4xyewcKqSpw2tyL/wUsz4gCtJtKYmMZsoffglsR1N+IwEA+ksPKh4e3ib+ tFDYoMDx/E64lO0H8RQaRtPY46nRVAU= =eQ+e -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
