Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Greetings,

In kmc version 3 and newer, the upstream author developed strong
optimization techniques against x86_64 CPUs, with runtime
detection of CPU SIMD extensions. However, as a result, these
optimizations made it quite hard to port on other architectures
that were previously supported.

While there seems to be users needing this package for other
architectures[1], it is unclear yet whether upstream has plans
to extend architectures support yet.

We hope to be capable of providing cross-architecture support
again in the future, through SIMDe or similar approach, but for
now the package is affected by the RC bug #954270, which seems
to be fixed by the new upstream version, so time is of the
essence, if we want that package available in Bullseye.

Kind Regards,
