No! Please do _not_ do that!
It would make the situation worse: the two images would become non-free
and the Debian package maintainers would need to drop them from the
Debian source package, in order to keep it in Debian main.

For the avoidance of doubt: the upstream Guitarix project is perfectly
fine and does not need any change (as far as this bug is concerned).
The only thing to be fixed here is the debian/copyright file in the
Debian package.

Bug#984469: guitarix: debian/copyright is inaccurate

2021-03-06 Thread Hermann Meyer

Hi

guitarix upstream maintainer here.

Please downgrade the severity of this bug.

The files in question don't be part of the distributed package, so there
is no serious reason to mark guitarix "unfit for release".

Even if the [debian/copyright] file may be wrong for those files, that
haven't any relation to the distributed package, as they are only part
of the source, and be in no relation to the distributed binary.

If it helps, I could mark the files in question as CC-BY-1.0 so that the
copyright file is correct.

However, this is by far not a serious bug, so please, handle it.

Bug#984469: guitarix: debian/copyright is inaccurate

2021-03-03 Thread Francesco Poli (wintermute)
Package: guitarix
Version: 0.42.1+dfsg1-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: Policy 12.5

Dear Debian Multimedia Maintainers,
I noticed that the [debian/copyright] file for guitarix states that
two images ('data/Layout.svg' and 'data/stereo.svg') are under
CC-BY-1.0, which does not meet the DFSG.

[debian/copyright]:

I got in touch with the upstream developers, with the intention to
persuade them to re-license the two files under DFSG-free terms.
And I found out that those two files are already under GPL-2+,
as the majority of the guitarix package files.
See the [confirmation] from the Guitarix devs.

[confirmation]:

This means that there is no DFSG-freeness issue in the guitarix package
(and that's wonderful news!): it's the debian/copyright file that appears
to be inaccurate.

Please find attached a patch that fixes the debian/copyright file
to better reflect the actual licensing status of the package.

Please apply the patch as soon as possible.
Thanks for your time.

Bye!
