I can start and stop from the command line. After I stopped it, I did
apt-get dist-upgrade and the setting up and starting were then
successful.
Again, check the log file

Kmail crashes whenever I try to view a message signed with gpg-- it crashes
upon startup when the inbox is 'bookmarked' at a gpg-signed message:

Package: xfce4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
When doing apt-get install xfce4 I get following:
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
Sorry if I filed a unnecessary bug report. By sending the report I was doing
what apt-get recommended I do.
Can you dig a bit more to see why all the packages aren't going to be
installed?
I followed back the dependencies as follows:
# apt-get install
Package: apt
Version: 0.8.10.3+squeeze1
Severity: normal
This happens whenever I run apt dist-upgrade (to wheezy). I have tried many
times over the last 12 days or so, using various mirrors in my apt sources
list. Other packages download just fine.
Failed to fetch
Sorry about that, either my ISP or my router was preventing me from
getting those packages for some reason. 'Bug' resolved.
