Bug#321399: kdemultimedia-kfile-plugins: any action? bug still exists in 3.5.0

2006-01-10 Thread Christopher J Peikert
Package: kdemultimedia-kfile-plugins
Version: 4:3.5.0-3
Followup-For: Bug #321399

Does anybody have an idea what's up with this bug?

I am getting bizarre behavior for ogg's and mp3's, even with the new
KDE 3.5.0 in unstable.

meta data fails completely for mp3's, both on the command line and in
konqueror. kfile spits out lots of kio (KMimeType) warnings when
invoked on an mp3 (but no warnings on an ogg). See below for a
transcript.

kfile from the command line works for ogg's, but the Meta Info tab
in Properties under konqueror fails completely.

kfile seems to work fine on avi's and such, though it spits out all
the same KMimeType warnings.

Here's a command-line example for an ogg:

$ kfile --av Weird\ Al\ Yankovic\ -\ Yoda.ogg
Weird Al Yankovic - Yoda.ogg: Ogg Vorbis Audio (audio/vorbis)
-- /home/cpeikert/media/download/Weird Al Yankovic - Yoda.ogg

And here is what happens when I run kfile on an mp3:

$ kfile --av 02\ -\ Last\ Living\ Souls.mp3

Bug#321399: kdemultimedia-kfile-plugins: any action? bug still exists in 3.5.0

 Does anybody have an idea what's up with this bug?

  I can't reproduce at all with current sid. All four situations
  (mp3/ogg, kfile/konqueror) work well for me.

  Cheers,

Very very strange. Could it be that there is a library of some sort
that is supposed to be required but isn't listed in the depends? I have
tried installing all of kdemultimedia and libtagc0, to no avail.

What do you make of all the warnings about KMimeTypes? They appear not
to be related to the bug at hand, but can you reproduce them at all?

I fixed the bug by removing kplayer (from unofficial sources on
nerim.net). Optionally one can aptitude reinstall kdelibs-data and
log out/in, which may help matters.

I think I will file a bug against kplayer for this, but I wanted the
solution to this annoying probably to finally appear somewhere on the
web :).

thanks,
-Chris
