Do these messages indicate that some part of the installation of
tex-common failed? My concern is not with the ultimate cause of the
bug, which apparently is in ucf, but of its consequences for tex.

If everything is not OK, is there anything I can do to clean things up?

Although I've decided to delay the tex-common upload until next Monday
forsome promised translations to drop in, I think we can as well upload
this now - we'll be able to tell the RM has been in unstable for N days
already.

 No need to worry.

I'm glad to hear it. I had read the bug, but it wasn't clear to me the
problem was harmless. Thanks for clarifying.
