Are you sure?  They're not shipped in the .deb itself so 'dpkg -L'
doesn't list them, but they're generated when you install the package;
you should find them in /usr/lib/grub-rescue/, and the documentation in
/usr/share/doc/grub-rescue-pc/README.Debian should work.

Well, I was when I reported :-) I thought that I searched as well as 
inspecting dpkg -L, but I can't remember the details now.

 They're not shipped in the .deb itself so 'dpkg -L'
 doesn't list them, but they're generated when you install the package;
 you should find them in /usr/lib/grub-rescue/, and the documentation in
 /usr/share/doc/grub-rescue-pc/README.Debian should work.

Just checked on one machine and indeed the files are there...
