When I try to install something from external sites, the process fails with

found.  After installing eclipse-plugin-cvs the message changed to a similar
error about eclipse-jdt.

Well, ALT Linux Eclipse (3.5 too) allows me to install *and* successfully
use the same plugins without installing eclipse-jdt subpackage.  When I
try to install pydev on the clean profile, it shows only CVS Client,
Help System, Platform, RCP and Equinox p2 Provisioning. In the
case of Debian Eclipse much more items are shown.

As in it allows you to use eclipse's installer to install the parts of
jdt you need for the plugin you are installing?

I mean the screen with licenses which is shown after selecting software
but before its installation. Of course the aforementioned components are
already installed system-wide, but it is shown in the Installation
details dialog (accessed from the About dialog) only after the first
plugin is installed.
