While I prefer sim was fixed soon and obtained some newer packaging (i.e. build-arch/build-indep targets), it is not a blocker for me at the moment. So if you are interested in maintaining the package, I suggest you take it and work on it when you have time. I've heard rumors that qt3 will not be supported by debian in current testing, so there are questions about keeping Sim-IM in debian repository because it is qt3 applications. While removing kdelibs from KDE3 seems a reasonable goal (and IMHO we must remove it), I am not so sure about Qt3: there some applications that do not have a good equivalent/port and it does not seem so harmful as kdelibs3. So for now, sim-IM could stay in the Debian archive, but it must drop the kdelibs3 dependency and just build the qt3 component.
