mpt-statusd: detected non-optimal RAID status is logged every 10 minutes on 
VMware ESX 4.x.
It turned out this was because /dev/mptctl did not exist, because mptctl module 
was not loaded.
As soon as I loaded it the message went away. So perhaps you only need to add 
this to the init.d
script:

  modprobe -q mptctl || :
