Bug#671019: chromium: Excessive fsync() when scrolling

2012-05-01 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Package: chromium
Version: 18.0.1025.151~r130497-1
Severity: important

After every scroll action or tab change, chromium updates it's
Current Session file. After it has written to that file, chromium
calls fsync().

This means that chromium, in combination with power management
causes a disk in standby mode to be restarted just to write the
current window position to the disk. This excessive fsync()
calling means that using chromium on a laptop can shorten the
life time of hard disks considerably (a single cursor key
press basically increases the Start/Stop count by one).

Thanks.  That's no good.

http://crbug.com/52663 seems vaguely related. If it seems to describe
your problem well, please let us know; and if it doesn't, please file
a new bug upstream and let us know the bug number so we can track it.
