I just had this very same thing happening to me (Galaxy S5 with heimdall
v.1.4.1, same error message).
This bug has been fixed upstream over a year ago.
Could we please have an NMU for version 1.4.2 of heimdall?

I see similar problem with Galaxy J5 SM-510F.
It is resolved by upgrading to heimdall 1.4.2
