Bug#822081: gnome-control-center: Mouse settings have no effect since 3.20
Package: gnome-control-center Version: 1:3.22.1-1 Followup-For: Bug #822081 Here, I don't have any touchpad since this is a desktop. However, left-handed mouse is completely ignored since 3.20 came into testing. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (1011, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.7.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fi_FI.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fi_FI.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages gnome-control-center depends on: ii accountsservice0.6.40-3 ii apg2.2.3.dfsg.1-4 ii colord 1.3.3-2 ii desktop-file-utils 0.23-1 ii gnome-control-center-data 1:3.22.1-1 ii gnome-desktop3-data3.22.1-1 ii gnome-settings-daemon 3.22.1-1 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas 3.22.0-1 ii libaccountsservice00.6.40-3 ii libatk1.0-02.22.0-1 ii libc6 2.24-3 ii libcairo-gobject2 1.14.6-1+b1 ii libcairo2 1.14.6-1+b1 ii libcanberra-gtk3-0 0.30-3 ii libcanberra0 0.30-3 ii libcheese-gtk253.22.1-1 ii libcheese8 3.22.1-1 ii libclutter-1.0-0 1.26.0+dfsg-1 ii libclutter-gtk-1.0-0 1.8.2-1 ii libcolord-gtk1 0.1.26-1 ii libcolord2 1.3.3-2 ii libcups2 2.2.1-1 ii libfontconfig1 2.11.0-6.7 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.36.0-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.50.1-1 ii libgnome-bluetooth13 3.20.0-1 ii libgnome-desktop-3-12 3.22.1-1 ii libgoa-1.0-0b 3.22.1-1 ii libgoa-backend-1.0-1 3.22.1-1 ii libgrilo-0.3-0 0.3.2-2 ii libgtk-3-0 3.22.1-1 ii libgtop-2.0-10 2.34.1-2 ii libgudev-1.0-0 230-3 ii libibus-1.0-5 1.5.11-1 ii libkrb5-3 1.14.3+dfsg-2 ii libmm-glib01.6.2-1 ii libnm0 1.4.2-1+b1 ii libnma01.4.2-1 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.40.3-2 ii libpangocairo-1.0-01.40.3-2 ii libpolkit-gobject-1-0 0.105-16 ii libpulse-mainloop-glib09.0-4 ii libpulse0 9.0-4 ii libpwquality1 1.3.0-1 ii libsmbclient 2:4.4.6+dfsg-2 ii libsoup2.4-1 2.56.0-1 ii libupower-glib30.99.4-4 ii libwacom2 0.22-1 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.3-1 ii libxi6 2:1.7.6-1 ii libxml22.9.4+dfsg1-2 Versions of packages gnome-control-center recommends: ii cracklib-runtime 2.9.2-3 ii cups-pk-helper0.2.6-1 ii gkbd-capplet 3.22.0.1-1 ii gnome-online-accounts 3.22.1-1 ii gnome-user-guide 3.22.0-1 pn gnome-user-share ii iso-codes 3.70-1 ii libcanberra-pulse 0.30-3 ii libnss-myhostname 231-9 ii mousetweaks 3.12.0-1 ii network-manager-gnome 1.4.2-1 ii policykit-1 0.105-16 ii pulseaudio-module-bluetooth 9.0-4 ii realmd0.16.3-1 ii rygel 0.32.0-2 ii system-config-printer-common 1.5.7-2 Versions of packages gnome-control-center suggests: ii gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio 1.8.3-1+b1 pn libcanberra-gtk-module ii libcanberra-gtk3-module 0.30-3 ii x11-xserver-utils7.7+7 -- no debconf information

Sorry for the delay. The thread got lost in the pile... You were right. I wrote to the wrong bug address :-) Thanks, it worked! Best, Leandro

Sorry, there are two bugs here. #825100, #821352 are about the ability to configure edge-scrolling, which was removed in GNOME 3.20. #822081, #822372 are about the inability to configure the touchpad when synaptics is used. I believe your problem is the latter, and you just need to uninstall xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and restart your session to get (most) settings back. Cheers, Emilio

However, for your information I am using > (mostly) testing. For now, enjoy my screenshot. This is a known problem. The issue is that gnome dropped support for the synaptics driver and can't configure it anymore. It only has support for the libinput driver now. However when both libinput and synaptics drivers are installed, the system will use the synaptics one. The temporary workaround is to uninstall the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package. Or to use the synaptics driver and configure it through the command line. Cheers, Emilio
Bug#821352: Problems with ouse and touchpad settings (it was:Re: Bug#822081: gnome-control-center: Mouse settings have no effect since 3.20)
Dear all. (CC: to #823372, #821352 and #825100 since I believe all these bugs should be merged.) I have the same problems (see attached screenshot), namely: 1) The mouse settings panel does not appear complete any more. 2) All customization (natural scrolling, primary button, touchpad's touch-twice-to-click...) is gone. Contrary to other people, this bug did not manifest immediately after upgrading to GNOME 3.20 (something I did around ten days ago), but only around three days ago. I am trying to generate the list of installed packages (reportbug is somehow malfunctioning). However, for your information I am using (mostly) testing. For now, enjoy my screenshot. Best, Leandro

Yes, we are going to add a dependency to xserver-xorg-input-all. Cheers, Emilio

Now I also see additional setting parameters for the touch pad. Is there a way that the upgrade to 3.20 could install the package automatically (dependency/recommendation)? I don't recall having the problem before 3.20. Andreas

Bug#822081: gnome-control-center: Mouse settings have no effect since 3.20
Package: gnome-control-center Version: 1:3.20.1-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, since the update of gdm3, gnome-shell and gnome-control-center to 3.20 the mouse settings in the control center have no effect anymore. Neither the "Mouse Speed" slider nor the "Natural Scrolling" switch work as expected. The actual mouse speed remains the same and scrolling with the touchpad is always un-"natural". I can't tell whether the "Primary Button" switch works as expected, because it's not entirely clear to me what this setting should do (swap effects of left and right mouse key?). I would appreciate if you could have a look into the matter.
