But this goes with the assumption that all Debian Derivatives have the same policy. I'm more keen on seeing some clarification on the policy itself. Bug#840804: chrome-gnome-shell: does not work with Google Chrome
Ritesh, thanks for packaging chrome-gnome-shell. Since Ubuntu does not reject uploads for this lintian error, I have modified the packaging locally to only apply the workaround patch when this package is built on a Debian system. I'm attaching my git commit. This would allow Ubuntu to be in sync with Debian for this package without losing functionality there. Bug#840804: chrome-gnome-shell: does not work with Google Chrome
Package: chrome-gnome-shell Version: 7.1-1 Severity: important This package does not work with Google Chrome - it gives an error that the native host connector is not detected. I am pretty sure that this is because debian-distribution.patch prevents the package from installing required JSON files into the correct location for Google Chrome ("/etc/opt/chrome/native-messaging-hosts/" instead of "/etc/chromium/native-messaging-hosts/"). Copying "io.github.ne0sight.gs_chrome_connector.json" and "org.gnome.chrome_gnome_shell.json" into the correct location for my browser allowed the extension to work. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.7.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages chrome-gnome-shell depends on: ii gnome-shell 3.22.1-1 ii python 2.7.11-2 ii python-gi3.22.0-1 chrome-gnome-shell recommends no packages.
