Thanks for checking. I bet we have way more urgent things to do than
polishing legacy code. I just dropped this issue in BTS since I
considered it not worth tackling right now but leave it on the table
for some later point in time (most probably after stretch release).

Kind regards

   Andreas.

FYI just from a quick look, this might not be trivial... I tried to
build treeviewx with Debian's libncl but then noticed that even the
names of the header files seem to differ between the embedded 2.0 and
the 2.1.18 in Debian. I can look into it in more detail when I find the
time.

Bug#846481: src:treeviewx: Please remove statically linked code copy of libncl

2016-12-01 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: src:treeviewx
Severity: minor

Hi,

treeviewx seems to be unmaintained upstream but according to popcon
widely used. It contains a code copy of libncl version 2.0 which is
statically linked in the build process. Debian has a packaged version
of libncl 2.1.18 which should be dynamically linked instead and the old
code copy should be removed from the source tarball.

Kind regards

   Andreas.
