Bug#875781: initramfs-tools-core: /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf is not modified on upgrade/install/reconfigure

2018-07-25 Thread Ben Hutchings
Control: notfound -1 0.130
Control: tag -1 - unreproducible
Control: forcemerge 822671 -1

This is an old bug that has already been fixed.

Any system that started with version 0.120 (or earlier) and the default
configuration, and was then upgraded directly to version 0.123, 0.124,
or 0.125, will have missed the change to the default configuration that
was made in 0.121 (BUSYBOX=y changed to BUSYBOX=auto).

Upgrade paths such as 0.120 to 0.121 to 0.123, or 0.120 to 0.130
(jessie to stretch), work correctly.

Unfortunately there is no way to tell which systems were affected by
this bug, so the configuration will not be automatically reset to the
default.

Ben.

2017-09-20 Thread Piviul
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.130
Followup-For: Bug #875781

Dear Maintainer,

the same happens to me. The file /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf of
initramfs-tools package is different from the one in my PC and I have never
modified it and even reinstalling the initramfs-tools package the
initramfs.conf is different from the one in the package:

$ diff etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf

< # BUSYBOX: [ y | n | auto ]
---
> # BUSYBOX: [ y | n ]
25,27c25
< # Use busybox shell and utilities. If set to n, klibc utilities will be
used.
< # If set to auto (or unset), busybox will be used if installed and klibc will
< # be used otherwise.

I think this can be the installation date, I have change all the
hardware, but I have copied the system in the new disk without reinstalling.
If I don't mistake I have installed a stable, but after a while I have
installed testing and never change it.

Was initramfs.conf modified?

I think I never modified it.

I tried this, starting with jessie (debootstrap'd chroot plus
initramfs-tools) and then changing APT sources to stretch.
initramfs.conf was upgraded as intended.

I have check this problem in two Debian box with testing and all have
the same problem.

$ ls -l /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 947 lug 9 2012 /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf

But if you make a change to the initramfs.conf and than do
# apt install --reinstall initramfs-tools-core
is the file updated or are you asked if you want to install the DD version?

Ciao
Davide
