What's the status here? I see that pykwalify passed NEW last month, but
the borgmatic sponsorship request was closed without much explanation...

pykwalify has change their license to remove the good/evil clause, so
that dependency should now be suitable for Debian. And so I think
packaging borgmatic should be unblocked now.

Also, I filed this issue on pykwalify to hopefully rectify the license:

borgmatic author here. As a former Debian maintainer and a current
Debian users, I care about free software too! If you find something like
pykwalify (YAML validator using a YAML-based or similar schema) with a
better license, I'd be happy to switch.

Thanks,

FWIW the borgmatic dependency pykwalify is considered non-free by Debian because
its license contains the "The Software shall be used for Good, not Evil."
clause.

Unfortunately, I have not. I figured I don’t really need it myself,
since I’m just running a one-liner from a systemd timer. I may package
it one day though, but feel free to take it over.

Thanks in advance.

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

  Package name: borgmatic
  Version : 1.1.9

  URL : http://www.example.org/
  License : GPLv3

Description : A wrapper script for Borg backup software that

Hi

Most of the time, borg (that is package under the name borgbackup) is
used with wrappers that manages archives creation and deletion in a more
convenient way.

One of the most popular borg wrapper is borgmatic, a Python script that
can be configured using YAML files.

borgmatic is available on PyPI and all its dependencies except
pykwalify, a YAML/JSON validator [1], can be found in Debian
repositories.

It would be nice to have it packaged along borg.

Thanks in advance.
