This seems less likely to me now. I installed a clean (unstable) system without any recommends enabled, ran octave in openbox on a vnc, and everything worked fine. Could be. I just installed openbox, started it in a vnc session, and octave plots appear and behave as expected. I ran the same code with the same version of octave but on a PC running Gnome 3 instead of openbox and I did not have this problem... Package: octave Severity: important Hi! Using octave 4.2.1-5, I can't make the plot viewer window work properly. When generating a plot using the plot() function, the plot viewer window pops-up, but nothing is shown inside the window. Fortunately, the window buttons still work and I'm able to save the plot as a PDF. Once I save the plot, the plot shows up correctly, but the window buttons like Pan, Z+ or Z- don't work. If I overlay another program on top of the plot viewer, the plot disappears once again.
