Bug#942082: mate-settings-daemon: Repeadly opens and closes alsa mixer in background forever

2024-08-20 Thread Michael
Package: mate-settings-daemon
Version: 1.26.0-1+deb12u1
Followup-For: Bug #942082

This is also a problem on systems without any sound hardware at all (eg.
the container I'm composing this bug report on :P), as it spams stdout (and
therefore ~/.xsession-errors) with this 60 times per minute:

ALSA lib confmisc.c:855:(parse_card) cannot find card '0'
ALSA lib conf.c:5180:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_inum
returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib confmisc.c:422:(snd_func_concat) error evaluating strings
ALSA lib conf.c:5180:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_concat
returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1334:(snd_func_refer) error evaluating name
ALSA lib conf.c:5180:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer
returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib conf.c:5703:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or
directory
ALSA lib control.c:1528:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL default

This is also confusing because MATE control centre doesn't even have any
audio related settings!

I can normally go years in between pruning my ~/.xsession-errors, but on
this occasion the 3.4GB file on a 10GB filesystem will need much more
frequent cleanup...
