Bug#954742: evolution: Error performing TLS handshake: A packet with illegal or unsupported version was received.
Hello, After some analysis, it look like TLS1.0 and TLS 1.1 where disabled through glib-networking starting from version 2.64.x (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib-networking/-/commit/0f5938dbc7ac92913673c102b5707675ca8a0eb9) As a workaround is to execute evolution as the following : > export G_TLS_GNUTLS_PRIORITY="NORMAL:%COMPAT:+VERS-TLS1.0" ; evolution Best regard, Hatem Masmoudi On Tue, 31 Mar 2020 18:37:41 +0100 Hatem Masmoudi mailto:hatem.masmo...@groupe-telnet.net>> wrote: > Hello, > > Same issue here using evolution 3.36.1 with MS exchange Server supprting only > TLS1.0. > > > > < HTTP/1.1 6 Error performing TLS handshake: A packet with illegal or > unsupported version was received. > < Soup-Debug-Timestamp: 1585676181 > < Soup-Debug: ESoapMessage 0 (0x55fd0188f770) > > > > Any possiblity to enable TLS1.0 support ? > > Thanks. > > Best Regard, > > Hatem Masmoudi

I don't know if Evolution can allow older TLS versions in this case or if it's necessary to do it in a different package, but for the record Firefox was also going to disable TLS v1.0 and v1.1 but they backed down because of the covid19 crisis: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/74.0/releasenotes/ Berto

Probably. Because I'm using the same version of Evolution + IMAP, without any problems with other servers. -- Given the large number of mailing lists I follow, I request you to CC me in replies for quicker response signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Package: evolution Version: 3.36.0-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, since the update to evolution 3.36, happened last Thursday 19th of March, I can't open the IMAP account: "Error performing TLS handshake: A packet with illegal or unsupported version was received." I get the same message if I try to login with Epiphany (still in version 3.34) With Firefox everything is working as usual. -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 5.4.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_WARN, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_IE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_IE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages evolution depends on: ii dbus 1.12.16-2 ii evolution-common 3.36.0-1 ii evolution-data-server 3.36.0-1 ii libc6 2.30-2 ii libcamel-1.2-623.36.0-1 ii libclutter-gtk-1.0-0 1.8.4-4 ii libecal-2.0-1 3.36.0-1 ii libedataserver-1.2-24 3.36.0-1 ii libevolution 3.36.0-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.64.1-1 ii libgtk-3-0 3.24.14-1 ii libical3 3.0.8-1 ii libnotify4 0.7.9-1 ii libsoup2.4-1 2.70.0-1 ii libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 2.28.0-2 ii libxml22.9.10+dfsg-4 ii psmisc 23.3-1 Versions of packages evolution recommends: pn evolution-plugin-bogofilter | evolution-plugin-spamassassin pn evolution-plugin-pstimport ii evolution-plugins3.36.0-1 ii yelp 3.34.0-1 Versions of packages evolution suggests: pn evolution-ews pn evolution-plugins-experimental ii gnupg 2.2.19-3 ii network-manager 1.22.8-1 -- no debconf information
