I think it would be better to replace the broken installer package with
a dummy package stating the EoL fact. (see #978954 for more discussion)
I uploaded such a dummy as 1.8.8 to sid today.

The FTP Team don't handle stable or oldstable removals. However:

- removals from oldstable aren't possible once it moves to LTS;
however, the package isn't in stretch anyway

- for removal from stable, please "reportbug release.debian.org" and
follow the prompts.
