Hi Gunnar,
to my (limited[1]) knowledge the differences between 5.6 and 7.0 aren't
that big from users' perspective, so short patch doesn't have to be
wrong for a well-maintained code. See this list of incompatibilites from
PHP 7.0 upgrade guide:

Hi Andreas,
thanks for detailed analysis. As the dpkg-divert is there only because
of Ubuntu 15.10 backports, I think the best path would be just to drop
(or wrap) the dpkg-divert altogether as it's only an ugly hack anyway
;).
Cheers,

just a matter of replacing:

Hi Chris,
thanks for taking care of this.
You can either try to backport PHP portion of 3.7.0-alpha0 to 3.6.2[*],
or check with upstream if they can finish 3.7.0 before stretch freeze
and if they can make it package 3.7.0-alpha0 right away.

Hi Dirk,
which type of processor do you have on that machine? As ydirson pointed out,
older CPU types (80586 and below on the i386 architecture) are not supported
anymore in stretch.
For everyone else: I can't reproduce this bug on my Intel i5, so it's safe to
upgrade.
