I tried to reproduce this issue. When running autopkgtst in my local
pbuilder chroot I get four failures - but different from the one said
below. When checking Salsa CI[1] it has just one failure which is
pretty strange:

in freeze policy. You should have waited at least until 2.14.1-2 fixing
this bug to migrate to testing. You would need to ask release team for

I've bumped upstream version to 1.12.3 which basically has the
suggested patches applied but the issue remains as you can see
in Salsa CI

happen if I refresh the pufferfish code in debian/external which I tried
