The python calls in the postinst are entirely superfluous as the package
does not ship any python modules. It consists only of two python scripts.
I will upload an NMU built from the attached patch to fix this shortly.

A recent svn update (eg, subversion = 1.4.0~rc4-1) changed the working
copy format in a backwards incompatible manner. This upload also renamed
the perl library package from libsvn-core-perl to
developers to see if they believe there is anything that can be done to
reduce the amount of memory that PHPwiki requires.
Any help or suggestions on how to reduce PHPwiki's memory usage would be
appreciated.

this is a permanent solution, but it will help to narrow
down what sort of bug this is, eg. PHPwiki just wants too many resources
vs infinite memory allocation loop.

The patch fixes the original bug. Passing an empty string to
sqlite_escape_string also succeeds (returns an empty string) without error.

If this explicit flush was removed from the init script then it would be
much easier for the site admin to implement site specific policy for
things (such as --retain) that are not suitable for the Debian package.

There are no ulimits enabled on the system that I am aware of (ie. It's
a bog standard sarge install, which afaik doesn't setup ulimits by
default, if it does there may be some, but I haven't setup any myself).
