I'm filing this against my own package.
I am going to request removal because:
- the code is old and suffers from bitrot
- there are probably more security issues lurking

FWIW, I also experienced this when unmounting a USB stick using nautilus.
Because I pulled out the USB stick too quickly, I ended up with a corrupted
filesystem. :-/

FWIW, I've started work on implementing the solution outlined in
http://curl.haxx.se/legal/distro-dilemma.html. However, my spare time is
very limited, so I can't promise anything about when (or even whether) I
can finish this.

the SSL-enabling backend libs, called lib2 on the page above. You don't
suddenly want your old libcurl3-using programs to fail with run-time link
errors...
