Jan It has been suggested that this *may* be a networking problem [1, 2, 3]. This is a wild suggestion that could be totally wrong, but I think that it is worth a shot.
Delete the *.bin files and have apt recreate them as before, and then set the TCP window scaling to 0 with echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_window_scaling and try apt-get again. I haven't had a chance to try this with the Debian Installer on the NSLU2 yet, but I will this evening (UTC-7).
