Package: gnome-settings-daemon
Version: 2.24.1-3
Severity: normal

Hi,
after upgrading my 2 workstation I get a popup with the following
message after every login.

|There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
|
|Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
|correctly.
|
|The last error message was:
|
|Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application
|did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
|the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
|
|GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.

the problem was raised monday Jul 27 2009 after ubgrading the following
packages:

[UPGRADE] consolekit 0.3.0-2 -> 0.3.0-3
[UPGRADE] cpp-4.3 4.3.3-13 -> 4.3.3-14

[UPGRADE] wireshark 1.0.8-1 -> 1.2.0-1
[UPGRADE] wireshark-common 1.0.8-1 -> 1.2.0-1

downgrading the following packages from version 1.2.16-2 to 1.2.14-3
solves the problem:
dbus
dbus-x11
libdbus-1-3

on a sid desktop I have no problem with g-s-d, so maybe the problem is
caused by the gnome transition phase.

don't esitate to ask for further informations.

I don't know if the problem is in g-s-d or in dbus or other; feel free to
reassign to the appropiate package.

OK, closing the bug then. Note that in the next upload of
gnome-control-center it will force gnome-settings-daemon to be upgraded
with it.

You need to restart GDM or reboot after consolekit has been installed.
