Package: phoronix-test-suite Severity: serious The phoronix-test-suite's primary function is to download, build, and execute software from outside of the Debian archive. Thus, it fails to comply with Policy 2.2.1:
" None of the packages in the main archive area require software outside of that area to function. [...] In addition, the packages in main must not require a package outside of main for compilation or execution" As per Policy 2.2.2, the package must be in the contrib area: "The contrib archive area contains supplemental packages intended to work with the Debian distribution, but which require software outside of the distribution to either build or function." The functionality provided by phoronix-test-suite is similar to those of the various -installer packages in contrib. The only difference is that phoronix-test-suite downloads and installs free software instead of non-free one (although I am not entirely sure whether all tests are 100% free software). In short, phoronix-test-suite installs programs from outside our archive onto a system and should thus be in contrib. I have CCed ftpmaster for further comment. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (950, 'unstable'), (950, 'testing'), (300, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages phoronix-test-suite depends on: pn php5-cli <none> (no description available) pn php5-gd <none> (no description available) phoronix-test-suite recommends no packages. phoronix-test-suite suggests no packages. -- Julian Andres Klode - Debian Developer, Ubuntu Member See http://wiki.debian.org/JulianAndresKlode and http://jak-linux.org/.
