Package: openmpi-bin
Version: 3.1.3-11
Severity: serious

Hi,

This is tracked upstream as https://github.com/open-mpi/ompi/issues/7035 .

mpirun segfaults during MTL OFI provider section when run on a machine
with an InfiniBand network. This happens for the following reason: Until
version 3.1.2, OFI used an opt-in mechanism to include providers.
'verbs' wasn't included by default. This was changed by
https://github.com/open-mpi/ompi/commit/d00c387284b6197946452a0938e76615a17fa689

The discussion is still ongoing upstream, but it looks like this might
be related to the libfabric version in Debian. The chosen solution
upstream might be to disable the 'verbs' provider.

Also, v4.x is not affected.

I believe this should be fixed in stable. Infiniband is common in HPC
clusters, so a broken OpenMPI is of limited use without its support.

Lucas
