The vulnerability affects versions 7.3.* through 8.0.*. 2) The contrib/tsearch2 module misdeclares the return type of several functions, which breaks the type safety of internal. The impact has reportedly not been investigated, but can at least crash the backend. The vulnerability affects versions 7.4 and later with the contrib/tsearch2 module installed. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.11-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages postgresql depends on: ii adduser 3.63Add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf 1.4.48 Debian configuration management sy ii debianutils 2.13.2 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii dpkg 1.10.27 Package maintenance system for Deb ii libc62.3.2.ds1-21GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcomerr2 1.37-2 common error description library ii libkrb53 1.3.6-3 MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii libpam0g 0.76-22 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libperl5.8 5.8.4-8 Shared Perl library ii libpq3 7.4.7-5 PostgreSQL C client library ii libreadline4 4.3-15 GNU readline and history libraries ii libssl0.9.7 0.9.7e-3SSL shared libraries ii mailx1:8.1.2-0.20040524cvs-4 A simple mail user agent ii postgresql-clien 7.4.7-5 front-end programs for PostgreSQL ii procps 1:3.2.5-1 /proc file system utilities ii python2.32.3.5-2 An interactive high-level object-o ii ucf 1.18Update Configuration File: preserv ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4 compression library - runtime --- Received: (at 307663-done) by bugs.debian.org; 11 May 2005 05:52:39 + From Tue May 10 22:52:39 2005 Return-path: Received: from dsl093-039-086.pdx1.dsl.speakeasy.net (localhost.localdomain) [66.93.39.86] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1DVk99-00017Q-00; Tue, 10

Hi Alceste, after looking at the source code of CMFCore.TypesTool (line 535 and below) I suspect your problem is caused by one of these packages: zope-exuserfolder 0.50.0-3 zope-psycopgda 1.1.18-1 zope-zwiki 0.37.0-4 ZMS CMFpgForum. Hi all, The technical details of why debconf is not able to present a default value with the readline frontend, when the recommended literm-readline-gnu-perl is not installed, or with the teletype frontend, are already explained in bug #183970. I know of no better Just a silly question: why debconf permits to select the readline frontend if this package is not installed? It is quite embarrassing. Anyway, I have never heard about this package so far... Ferenc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact

Bug#308234: upgrading from 2.1.23 failed because of not setting slapd/dump_database_destdir
Hi, If you really think we should not mention the default value there that's okay but on the other side I request that the behaviour of the readline frontend is changed to at least present the user the current/default value if the libterm-readline-gnu-perl package is not installed. And make it very clear that hitting return means submitting an empty value. It does. It prompts as follows: Directory to dump databases: _ Barring some note that tells them there is a default, noone would expect hitting enter to result in some default value here[1]. The convention is that this means there is a default value: Directory to dump databases [/var/backups/slapd-VERSION]: _ Or this: Directory to dump databases: /var/backups/slapd-VERSION_ I suggest that the frontend should explicitly indicate if it cannot handle default values, although the there is one, e.g. like this: Default value: /var/backups/slapd-VERSION *** WARNING! You have to type the default value verbatim to use it! Directory to dump databases: _ I feel important to first display the default value, and then the warning message. (Please rephrase it if needed, as I am not a native English.) Another solution could be if the frontend asks a yes/no question to use the default value, if the question has one. Debconf uses one or the other of these conventions when possible. Only experienced users use these frontends, and experienced users are expected to be aware of these conventions. I use readline frontend because I use debian since 5-6 years, and that time this was the only one with which I could look what happened so far (I do not know whether there are others now). And I was not aware that my frontend do not support default values. Ferenc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact

Bug#308282: [phpbb2 #308282] upstream patch
On Tue, May 10, 2005 14:55, Ulf Harnhammar wrote: Protecting against this type of attack is much more complicated than this. As Jeroen noted, HTML entities are interpreted, so you have to protect against things like jav#97;script:. Finally, some browsers including Mozilla store entities in integers so they wrap over and start again after 2**32. So to conclude I think we have to resort to a whitelist of allowed protocols. kses uses ('http', 'https', 'ftp', 'news', 'nntp', 'telnet', 'gopher', 'mailto') which seems like a reasonable list. Bug#301370: marked as done (quota postrm fails due to missing dependency)
Steve, There appear to be a number of undocumented changes, relative to -4, which are not documentation fixes. :/ Would you remind removing them and uploading a -4sarge1 to testing-proposed-updates, or else explain why these changes are warranted during the freeze? Please take my apologies. I was interrupted while working on the package and simply forgot to remove some parts of the whole patch I applied. Also I didn't complete the changelog entry. And you probably noticed that stray patch file lying around in the source tree. Argh! I fixed this and am currently uploading -6 which should be okay. Bug#308567: this is typical of missing native code compiler support for the arch.
Hello, I believe this is symptomatic of the fact that s390 doesn't have a native code compiler, and indeed looking at the full log i see that those files are listed in : liblablgtk2-gnome-ocaml-dev.files without taking in account the non-native-code arches. Samuel, will you fix that ? I believe the solution is to have two .files files, and cat the native one to the other if we are on a native supporting arch. The other solution would be to split out the arch -dev package, maybe cleaner in the long run. Friendly, Sven Luther -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#308614: Please rebuild libchipcard2 against libusb (= 2:0.1.10a-9)
Package: libchipcard2 Severity: grave Tags: sarge sid Justification: renders package unusable A problem has been discovered on libusb, which only affect the ARM architecture. It is a memory alignement problem (__packed was forgotten on some structures). The bug has been fixed in libusb, but all packages that need these structures also need to be rebuilt. This has been done for most packages by doing an ARM binary NMU, but it is not possible for libchipcard2 as it would make the package uninstallable (-dev package is arch all). Thus, please upload a new version of libchipcard2 depending on libusb (= 2:0.1.10a-9). tags 308586 patch Selecting previously deselected package python2.3-apt. Unpacking python2.3-apt (from .../python2.3-apt_0.6.11_i386.deb) ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/python2.3-apt_0.6.11_i386.deb (--unpack): trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/apt_pkg.so', which is also in package python-apt dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe) Ok, that's my fault. In my tree I've splitted the python 2.3 stuff out of python-apt into its own package. python-apt is now contains only documentation and depends on python2.3-apt. The problem is that we are missing a versioned conflict against older versions of python-apt, which contains the same files as python2.3-apt does now. As a workaround you can upgrade to the latest version of python-apt from experimental, that will pull in python2.3-apt automatically and fix the error you discribe. While we're at it, should we add a Suggests: line for python-apt to python2.3-apt and python2.4-apt? A fix (added Conflict: python-apt ( 0.6.11) to python2.3-apt), is available as /python-apt--debian--0.6--patch-13 at URL:http://greek0.net/~greek0/archives. Sorry for the problems the missing conflict has caused. Cheers, Greek0 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#307098: KDE 3.4 conflics with Gnome 2.10
On Wednesday 11 May 2005 19:53, Adeodato Simó wrote: * cobaco (aka Bart Cornelis) [Wed, 11 May 2005 19:33:07 +0200]: off-topic context=there was a CDD devcamp[1] in Valencia last week, where I met, adeo, and lots of other Debianers Hey cobaco! :) hola (see I learned some Spanish :) /me really missing the good wether from Valencia as it's raining here ;-( /off-topic - having this shared file owned by _any_one_ of the desktops is bound to lead to endless bickering and flamewars (not to mention that it will effectively force everyone to install the core of that desktop), Yup, Christopher has already moved the file in svn, good to hear :) and I'm really hoping that the GNOME packagers will move theirs too. has anyone talked to them about it yet? the right place to put this is probably the menu-xdg package, as that's the package that's supposed to deal with the freedesktop menu standard in Debian AIUI hm, just realized that this is a specific case of a more general problem we'll have more and more in the future: 1) freedesktop standarizes certain stuff 2) different desktops come with different defaults settings for the standarized stuff 3) defaults from different desktops now conflict when installed on the same machine luckily freedesktop base spec allows for different configuration sets besides (or on top of) each other (see below) This probably needs being pushed upstream, right? I see 2 (theoretically) possible ways of pushing this upstream: 1) take defaults away from the domain of desktops into the hands of some neutral 3th party (I really don't think that is gonna fly) 2) have upstream provide an xdg base-dir with their view on good default settings (as far as standarized stuff goes) in some place different then /etc/xdg and leave it up to the distribution/the admin(or distributor) to activate any and/or all available config sets - Debian doesn't need to wait for upstream to do 2 above (just move anything upstream $DE places under /etc/xdg into /usr/share/$DE/xdg-default-config or somesuch during packaging) needs to wait for desktop-profiles to go into Debian first though without it there is no good standard way for the admin to control which set(s) of defaults gets activated (in what order) [1] see Sergio's blog at http://mixinet.net/stoblog/debian/20050510-cdd-dev-camp for an overview of what happened [2] see http://developer.skolelinux.no/~cobaco/desktop-profiles (you have to plug your own package whenever possible right? :), should enter Debian soon now -- Cheers, cobaco (aka Bart Cornelis) 1. Bug#308667: License does not allow modifications, yet source code is modified
Hello Udi, May Debian redistribute binaries built from modified source code? The Debian Free Software Guidelines state that The license must explicitly permit distribution of software built from modified source code. but it seems to me this must apply to software in the non-free archive as well. The modifications are minor bug fixes and can be seen here: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/non-free/g/glimpse/glimpse_4.18.0-3.diff.gz On a seperate note, have you considered licensing glimpse under an Open Source Initiative license, such as the GPL? Bug#308724: CAN-2005-1263: ELF core dump privilege elevation
Package: kernel-source-2.6.8 Severity: grave Tags: security patch Justification: user security hole http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ChangeLog-2.6.11.9 The relevent changes for this CAN appear to be solely in ./fs/binfmt_elf.c. There is also a memset in ./drivers/char/drm/drm_ioctl.c which should probably be added, among lots of other should-be-fixed things. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to with a subject of unsubscribe. On Wed, May 11, 2005 at 12:34:57PM +0200, Michael Meskes wrote: There appear to be a number of undocumented changes, relative to -4, which are not documentation fixes. Indeed it is; I've approved it for sarge. Bug#278495: perl can be in an unusable state during upgrade
Ok, after further analysis on IRC, it seems that the error in Bill's upgrade happens only because the packages are being removed, and apt removed some packages in an order that was not consistent with the declared dependencies. Since there's no reason to think apt is playing fast and loose with dependencies on *upgrade*, and even if it is that's not a perl bug, I think we can ignore that case for now. I think we should go ahead and fix doc-base to only depend on Essential, and consider this issue closed. Adam, do you have any objections to Colin's patch? If not, do you want to upload it, or should I go ahead with an NMU? I'd like to get this resolved in the next day or two, so that we can send out the call for serious upgrade testing. Thanks, -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#308733: rsync 2.6.4 server fails with rsync error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(570)
Package: rsync Version: 2.6.4-4 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I upgraded from 2.6.4-2 to 2.6.4-4 on my local network server and now my client gets an error: $ rsync mydesktop:: rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104) rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(570) _exit_cleanup(cope=3D12), file=3Dio.c, line=3D570): about to call exit(12) Also, I've upgraded my server to 2.6.4-5 and have same error. So, I've downgraded my server to 2.6.4-2 and now can rsync ok. I've tried all 3 versions (2.6.4-2,4,5) on my client, and all work ok on the client side. The only server that I can get working is 2.6.4-2. With this version, I successfully use the following rsync commands: $ rsync mydesktop:: $ rsync -avz --progress --delete mydesktop::rootdir/home/golfbuf/work/ work/ $ rsync -avz --progress mydesktop::rootdir/home/golfbuf/myfile.txt mydir/ -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.27-2-686 Locale: LANG=3Den_US, LC_CTYPE=3Den_US (charmap=3DISO-8859-1) Versions of packages rsync depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-21 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libpopt01.7-5lib for parsing cmdline parameters -- no debconf information
