Bug#322768: libc6: sshd after upgrade not working

Restarting sshd fixed the problem. It seems the restart services question in the postinst should be asked for upgrades from 2.3.5 . I've set the severity of this bug based on the problems a non-working sshd can cause for non-local users (and the fix for this issue is trivial). Do you have your sshd error log? If so, could you send us to prove definitely? I intend to enable restarting sevice question again in 2.3.5-4. sshd didn't log any errors (with the default LogLevel INFO). This may be the same effect I saw for a running irssi instance which dropped its connections until I restarted irssi: irssi: relocation error: /lib/libnss_dns.so.2: symbol __res_maybe_init, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference Thiemo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#321669: enigma: Copyright violation for menu.s3m
Hello Daniel, On Sun, Aug 07, 2005 at 12:46:12PM +0200, Daniel Heck wrote: On Sun, Aug 07, 2005 at 11:22:33AM +0200, Daniel Heck wrote: We have a special permission from Andrew Sega (aka Necros) to distribute menu.s3m with Engima. He is also listed in the manual http://www.nongnu.org/enigma/manual/enigma_5.html#SEC38 Ok, but the connection Necros = Andrew Sega is less then obvious and this info should not be hidden in a manual somwhere. Maybe the connection Necros could be made at this place as a first step? Good point, I just updated the manual in the enigma repository. Thanks. This page is referenced in several files in the /usr/share/doc/enigma directory. Since the manual is also present on the local system, those links should be updated to point to /usr/share/doc/enigma/manual/enigma_5.html instead of the web page. If you want, I can provide a patch which a) Mentions this special permission in the copyright file (what exactly does this permission allow (redistribution, modification)/ can it be found somewhere? b) Insert Necros in the above page c) Update all links in the debian-files from authors.html to the locally provided enigma_5.html The permission is only an informal Email from Andrew Sega. It covers only distribution as long as proper credit is given. This was good enough for me, but I don't know about the Debian policies for artwork licenses. I think it will be at least problematic. At this point I think this is mainly a Debian issue, so maybe we simply wait for an answer from Erich. Yes, I agree. But given that he has not jumped in this discussion in the last 7 days, and this is the third serious bug I am not holding my breath right now. Greetings Helge -- Dr. Helge Kreutzmann, Dipl.-Phys. Bug#273871: referring issue to technical committee
clone 273871 -1 reassign -1 tech-ctte thanks (cloning bug to leave RC bug open on libsilc) The bug is reasonably self-explanatory - on top of the package itself being incorrectly named (not reflecting the SONAME), this library does not increment its version when symbols are added, or change the shlibs values to ensure the appropriate version is depended on. The maintainer has amply demonstrated that he doesn't understand the issue and has made it exceedingly clear that he doesn't care, and that it's apparently not a problem because nobody on -devel replied to his message. As indicated by Steve Langasek, this is not a theoretical problem - previous uploads of silc clients to unstable have broken because they do not have tight enough dependencies on the version of the library that they were built against. I do not wish to make Gaim depend on this library while it is so poorly maintained, because it will cause an excess burden of support next time it breaks. I personally am not interested in silc functionality otherwise I might've tried to fix it and NMU or hijack the package, but I do recieve occasional user requests for the silc functionality to be enabled in Gaim. This problem has caused there to be no silc clients whatsoever in the sarge release, because they are all blocked on this library which will not migrate to testing until this bug is closed, and the same problem looks set to happen for etch unless something happens. Except that in fact, this bug is not the same as those other two bugs. Bugs #321561 and 321712 are problems with daemons running after glibc upgrade resulting from internal interface changes in glibc. make is not a daemon, so that is not the same bug. Since the version header in this bug report is known to be incorrect, I can't say with any certainty where this bug is coming from, but I can say that it is *not* in glibc 2.3.5-3 based on the above commands. If anything, though, it looks like you've managed to screw up your system somehow in the upgrade process and get a libdl.so.2 from glibc 2.3.2 together with the ld.so from glibc 2.3.5. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#273871: referring issue to technical committee
I can't maintain libsilc due several reasons: a) the silc upstream targz reflects its soname perfectly, but I disagree to maintain 1) a meta-package referring this one, 2) maintain a package which (strictly in my opinion) has a simple API differing the methodology to the debian one. b) personal things So I'm gladly give it to anybody who is interested in it. It's why I want to know what I have to do in this case (can we let this software in Debian, even if the patent has not been challenged ?). Well, if the prior art exists which shows the patent is invalid, I'm personally satisfied that we can ship it, but this is actually the purview of the ftp team to decide. Is this bug still being held open for some reason? There don't seem to be What did the ftp team decide ? I'm not aware that they decided anything. Did you ask them? Bug#320582: libdjvulibre1: soname of library changed
The upload is no problem, I have things fixed already in CVS, and they are mostly trivial anyway. In fact the X library stuff fixed itself. The only thing hold me up is the m68k issue. I have not taken the time to dive in the build system far enough to figure out how to either change -O3 to -O2 or specify gcc-3.4 instead of the default gcc on only m68k. Obviously there is something simple one can do, I just don't know GNU automake etc well enough to just do it. So, patch welcome, otherwise I'll get to it when I have a few hours to page all that build stuff in. --Barak. -- Barak A. retitle 322680 iee80211-source fails to build due to missing scripts/gcc-version.sh merge 322680 322765 thanks Hi, Bugs 322680 and 32275 are dupes of 322612. Fix for them is already committed to svn, so 322612 is tagged pending, but clearly nobody bothers to scroll down all the way down on the BTS page to check it :-). Bug#323038: [PATCH] snmpd segfault in IP-MIB
tags 323038 + patch thanks Hi, So, this segfault is obviously caused by a double-free, as the pointer passed to free() is, indeed, a valid pointer. snmpd crashes at this point: .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.35.1.4.1.4.4.10.0.1.1 = Hex-STRING: 00 C1 97 AB AA 2A So the crash happens after querying the very first object of .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.35.1.4.*, when the data structure gets freed. As the pointer is a valid pointer, the problem lies when the structure is created/populated. This is handled in agent/mibgroup/ip-mib/inetNetToMediaTable/inetNetToMediaTable.c (surprise, surprise, this IP-MIB code is definitely buggy as hell). 311 int 312 inetNetToMediaPhysAddress_get(inetNetToMediaTable_rowreq_ctx * rowreq_ctx, ... 327 (*inetNetToMediaPhysAddress_val_ptr_ptr) = 328 rowreq_ctx-data-arp_physaddress; ... The Hex-STRING looks very much like a MAC address, and it indeed is. This is where the data structure is populated with the MAC address string. It relies on the query context, and chances are this context gets freed automagically by something else before the data structure gets freed (I don't remember the magic of snmpd query contexts -- but the context gets freed before the data structure for sure). Proposed patch attached; I think it's correct, but please discuss the problem with upstream. They may have a better way to fix this. And get them to do a full review of the IP-MIB code, looks like it's needed. I've found it and checked the code: The vulnerable code (fofi/FoFiTrueType.cc) is only called from the interactive code (xpdf/PShOutputDev.cc and xpdf/SplashOutputDev.cc), which is not included in pdfTex/teTeX. So teTeX is not affected. Well, PSOutputDev isn't interactive as such, but you're correct that it only affects those two modules (which means xpdf, pdftoppm, and pdftops). - Derek -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#322961: kaffeine-mozilla: jri*.h use All rights reserved copyright boilerplate and have no other license info
On 2005 August 13 Saturday 19:04, Steve Langasek wrote: So are you filing this bug because Netscape isn't mentioned in the copyright file, or because you actually believe we don't have a proper license to them? There are equivalently named files in the mozilla source and the mozilla-dev package, so I would be surprised if these files haven't in fact been relicensed under the GPL. In that case, the copyright file includes the correct license, it just doesn't include a complete list of copyright holders, and that's not really an RC bug. This issue was discovered during package checks by my AM. I've brought it up with upstream, and their response consisted of the exact same files exist in kdebase/nsplugins - so I went to KDE upstream with the same issue, and got a single response_. So, no communication I've initiated has convinced me that we have (or anyone has) a license to distribute the files in question. That said, I could certainly be wrong and be asking the wrong people. I sincerely hope so. .. _response: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-core-develm=112314862006216w=2 I filed the bug, at his request, to document our findings and prepare for the possibility that the package would have to be removed from the archive. In case this is all a misunderstanding, though, the copyright file still does need to be updated. Thanks, Zack pgp7hM79WkjVR.pgp Description: PGP signature
