It seems the restart services question in the postinst should be
asked for upgrades from 2.3.5 .

I've set the severity of this bug based on the problems a non-working
sshd can cause for non-local users (and the fix for this issue is
   trivial).

Do you have your sshd error log? If so, could you send us to prove
definitely? I intend to enable restarting sevice question again in
  2.3.5-4.

sshd didn't log any errors (with the default LogLevel INFO).

This may be the same effect I saw for a running irssi instance which
dropped its connections until I restarted irssi:

irssi: relocation error: /lib/libnss_dns.so.2: symbol __res_maybe_init, version
GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

Hi, I am not able to install the apt-move in latest unstable:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Bug#321669: enigma: Copyright violation for menu.s3m

2005-08-14 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
Hello Daniel,

menu.s3m with Engima. He is also listed in the manual

   http://www.nongnu.org/enigma/manual/enigma_5.html#SEC38

Ok, but the connection Necros = Andrew Sega is less then obvious and
this info should not be hidden in a manual somwhere. Maybe the
connection Necros could be made at this place as a first step?

Good point, I just updated the manual in the enigma repository.

Thanks.

This page is referenced in several files in the /usr/share/doc/enigma
directory. Since the manual is also present on the local system, those
links should be updated to point to

  /usr/share/doc/enigma/manual/enigma_5.html

  instead of the web page.

If you want, I can provide a patch which
  a) Mentions this special permission in the copyright file (what
exactly does this permission allow (redistribution, modification)/
 can it be found somewhere?
  b) Insert Necros in the above page
  c) Update all links in the debian-files from authors.html to the
 locally provided enigma_5.html

The permission is only an informal Email from Andrew Sega. It covers
only distribution as long as proper credit is given.

This was good enough for me, but I don't know about the Debian policies
 for artwork licenses.

I think it will be at least problematic.

At this point I think this is mainly a Debian issue, so maybe we simply
wait for an answer from Erich.

Yes, I agree. But given that he has not jumped in this discussion in
the last 7 days, and this is the third serious bug I am not holding my
breath right now.

Greetings

  Helge

Package: byacc
Version: 20050505-1
Severity: serious

groff fails to build from source because byacc generates an incomplete
declaration of YYSTYPE in the header file. The first attachement
contains the header file it generates. The second attachment contains
a patch that fixes this problem.

This is serious because it prevents groff from building.

Bug#323032: libc6: GLIBC_PRIVATE errors

2005-08-14 Thread simon raven
Package: libc6
Version: 2.3.2.ds1-22
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

fakeroot debian/rules binary
/usr/bin/make: relocation error: /lib/libdl.so.2: symbol _dl_catch_error,
version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file ld.so.1 with link time reference
zsh: 8307 exit 127 fakeroot debian/rules binary

this is a follow-up to 321561 and 321712. if i allow the upgrade to
happen, i can't even run make, or perl, or crond, or anything at all in
fact. please fix this.

when i run strings on the library (libc6 so file) i see the GLIBC_PRIVATE
string.
isn't this supposed to work, like the previous libc6 major change (like
the woody-sarge one)? perl pukes in such a way that the locale gets all
confused, and cannot load properly, and the locales package install
fails, if libc6 2.3.5 is installed.

i haven't been able to upgrade for days and days, and this worries me
because there are security issues involved here.

i would also like a clarification on what's going on, being in the dark
isn't helping anything, either.

 Hi Javier,

I noticed that this RC bug is open for several months now. Are there
any problems with applying the patch to the current version instead
 of the next upstream version?

I was waiting for a new upstream version to apply this patch, but the
upstream developer isn't released new free released instead he's working
on new private and comercial releases. He sais that will release a new
version several months before the comercial and private release is out,
but there isn't free versions for almost a year.

I'm applying the patch in the next days and uploading to ftpmaster, but
I'm doubting if there will be a next free version. Andrew Morton
(upstream dev) doesn't respond to any mails I sent him.

(cloning bug to leave RC bug open on libsilc)

The bug is reasonably self-explanatory - on top of the package itself
being incorrectly named (not reflecting the SONAME), this library does
not increment its version when symbols are added, or change the shlibs
values to ensure the appropriate version is depended on.

The maintainer has amply demonstrated that he doesn't understand the
issue and has made it exceedingly clear that he doesn't care, and that
it's apparently not a problem because nobody on -devel replied to his
message.

As indicated by Steve Langasek, this is not a theoretical problem -
previous uploads of silc clients to unstable have broken because they do
not have tight enough dependencies on the version of the library that
they were built against.

I do not wish to make Gaim depend on this library while it is so poorly
maintained, because it will cause an excess burden of support next time
it breaks. I personally am not interested in silc functionality
otherwise I might've tried to fix it and NMU or hijack the package, but
I do recieve occasional user requests for the silc functionality to be
enabled in Gaim.

This problem has caused there to be no silc clients whatsoever in the
sarge release, because they are all blocked on this library which will
not migrate to testing until this bug is closed, and the same problem
looks set to happen for etch unless something happens.

Except that in fact, this bug is not the same as those other two bugs. Bugs
#321561 and 321712 are problems with daemons running after glibc upgrade
resulting from internal interface changes in glibc. make is not a daemon,
so that is not the same bug.

However,

$ dpkg -x g/glibc/libc6_2.3.5-3_powerpc.deb /tmp/libc6
$ nm -Du /tmp/libc6/lib/libdl.so.2 |grep _dl_catch_error
$

I can't find any evidence of this bug you're describing in glibc 2.3.5-3.
Since the version header in this bug report is known to be incorrect, I
can't say with any certainty where this bug is coming from, but I can say
that it is *not* in glibc 2.3.5-3 based on the above commands.

If anything, though, it looks like you've managed to screw up your system
somehow in the upgrade process and get a libdl.so.2 from glibc 2.3.2
together with the ld.so from glibc 2.3.5.

Bug#273871: referring issue to technical committee

2005-08-14 Thread Tamas SZERB
I can't maintain libsilc due several reasons:

a) the silc upstream targz reflects its soname perfectly, but I
disagree to maintain 1) a meta-package referring this one, 2) maintain
a package which (strictly in my opinion) has a simple API differing
the methodology to the debian one.

b) personal things

So I'm gladly give it to anybody who is interested in it.

Looks like the IP-MIB code is at fault here, again. You may need to have IPv6
enabled on your system to reproduce the segfault. This one is so deeply buried
into snmpd that I'm not going to debug it. Spent my sunday morning fixing the
64bit-specific segfault (321713), that'll be enough for today.

Please forward to upstream ASAP.

JB.

Bug#323040: wordpress: Arbitrary code execution through inproper input sanitising in cookie handling

2005-08-14 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Package: wordpress
Severity: grave
Tags: security patch
Justification: user security hole

Hi,
a vulnerability in Wordpress' cookie handling has been reported that allows
arbitrary PHP command execution, if register_globals is enabled in the PHP
config. Please see http://www.securiteam.com/unixfocus/5BP0G00GLK.html

It should be fixed in 1.5.1.4, although I couldn't find this release on the
Wordpress website.

Cheers,
Moritz

Yes, but I think that this bug should not be RC (see below).

 [...]
Please have a look at libjpeg62 (#153467) to see how such
   problem is treated.

That bug shows people expressing the opinions that

  - we don't want to be hasty in removing software based on a patent
before we have reason to believe it's valid and may be enforced
against us - we consider the existence of prior art as sufficient
reason to ignore the patent, since legally, the patent is invalid

both of these things are true, but you haven't really shown how
  either relates to libpano12, AFAICT?

 http://www.virtualproperties.com/noipix/patents.html suggests that
there is clear prior art in this case. I have taken this link from
previous discution on debian-legal. But Robert Jordens thinks that :
The prior art argument is pretty much irrelevant in our question as
long as the legal status quo is different and the patent has not
 been challanged.

It's why I want to know what I have to do in this case (can we let
this software in Debian, even if the patent has not been
 challenged ?).

Well, if the prior art exists which shows the patent is invalid, I'm
personally satisfied that we can ship it, but this is actually the
purview of the ftp team to decide.

Is this bug still being held open for some reason? There don't seem to
   be

What did the ftp team decide ?

I'm not aware that they decided anything. Did you ask them?

Could you please decide to keep or remove this package from Debian ?

Thanks.

Bug#320582: libdjvulibre1: soname of library changed

2005-08-14 Thread Barak Pearlmutter
The upload is no problem, I have things fixed already in CVS, and they
are mostly trivial anyway. In fact the X library stuff fixed itself.
The only thing hold me up is the m68k issue. I have not taken the
time to dive in the build system far enough to figure out how to
either change -O3 to -O2 or specify gcc-3.4 instead of the default gcc
on only m68k. Obviously there is something simple one can do, I just
don't know GNU automake etc well enough to just do it.

So, patch welcome, otherwise I'll get to it when I have a few hours to
page all that build stuff in.

PS But on second thought, please go ahead and NMU with that patch. It
should clear the issue for now, and shouldn't do any harm. Later I'll
fix it right and upload that. And your NMU will allow me to take my
time finding the right fix. Which I suppose involves writing an
autoconf script to actually detect the nasty GCC bug breaking m68k and
disable -O3 or switch to GCC 3.4 when the bug is found.

scripts/gcc-version.sh
merge 322680 322765
thanks

Hi,

Bugs 322680 and 32275 are dupes of 322612. Fix for them is already
committed to svn, so 322612 is tagged pending, but clearly nobody bothers
to scroll down all the way down on the BTS page to check it :-). So I'm
merging the two grave bugs, but not tagging them pending to keep them
visible.

Best regards,

Bug#321107: Bug#320582: djvulibre NMU being prepared

The changes to configure are due to the changed m4 files, not as a result of
any changes needed in configure.ac, if that's what you mean. Both
configure.ac and aclocal.m4 are input files for generation of configure.

Ok, I'll go ahead with the upload. Hopefully gcc-4.0 can be fixed soon
enough that you won't have to bother with a more detailed check for this
particular bit of m68k brokenness.

Cheers,

Bug#323038: [PATCH] snmpd segfault in IP-MIB

2005-08-14 Thread Julien BLACHE
tags 323038 + patch
thanks

Hi,

So, this segfault is obviously caused by a double-free, as the pointer
passed to free() is, indeed, a valid pointer.

snmpd crashes at this point:
.1.3.6.1.2.1.4.35.1.4.1.4.4.10.0.1.1 = Hex-STRING: 00 C1 97 AB AA 2A

So the crash happens after querying the very first object of
.1.3.6.1.2.1.4.35.1.4.*, when the data structure gets freed. As the
pointer is a valid pointer, the problem lies when the structure is
created/populated.

This is handled in
agent/mibgroup/ip-mib/inetNetToMediaTable/inetNetToMediaTable.c
(surprise, surprise, this IP-MIB code is definitely buggy as hell).

   311 int
   312 inetNetToMediaPhysAddress_get(inetNetToMediaTable_rowreq_ctx *
rowreq_ctx,

   ...

   327 (*inetNetToMediaPhysAddress_val_ptr_ptr) =
   328  rowreq_ctx-data-arp_physaddress;

   ...

The Hex-STRING looks very much like a MAC address, and it indeed
is. This is where the data structure is populated with the MAC address
string.

It relies on the query context, and chances are this context gets
freed automagically by something else before the data structure gets
freed (I don't remember the magic of snmpd query contexts -- but the
context gets freed before the data structure for sure).

Proposed patch attached; I think it's correct, but please discuss the
problem with upstream. They may have a better way to fix this.

And get them to do a full review of the IP-MIB code, looks like it's
needed.

JB.

Is this perhaps to do with a more strict check being implemented in a

Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

it seems that the variable old_passwords is not available in the last
mysql version which prevents mysqld to be launched. So I commented it
:

# For compatibility to other Debian packages that still use
# libmysqlclient10 and libmysqlclient12.
# old_passwords = 1
#

Now, everything seems to work.

I've found it and checked the code: The vulnerable code

(xpdf/PShOutputDev.cc and xpdf/SplashOutputDev.cc), which is not
 included in pdfTex/teTeX.

 So teTeX is not affected.

Well, PSOutputDev isn't interactive as such, but you're correct that
it only affects those two modules (which means xpdf, pdftoppm, and
pdftops).

This seems to be fixed in gcc 4.0.1-4. At least the regression tests are

Yes, I agree. But given that he has not jumped in this discussion in

I havn't caught up with my mails yet.
I was offline the last week, giving an intensive course, before that I
was at a conference. Please be patient.

best regards,

Bug#320721: Same on Intel Xeon

2005-08-14 Thread Carsten Menke

I'm having the same problem on Intel Xeon 32bit

Here's what I have done so far:

Tested Kernels (with newer Kernel's c2faxsend even produces an Kernel oops)
2.4.31 - segmentation fault
2.6.8-2-686 - segmentation fault
2.6.12.3-SMP - Kernel Oops (Preemption enabled)
2.6.12.4-SMP - Kernel Ooops (Preemption disabled)
2.6.13-rc6 - Kernel ooops (Preemption disabled,No SMP)

I've also tried to recompile libcapi20 (capi20) using Linux-Libc-Headers
(2.6.12.0) from http://ep09.pld-linux.org/~mmazur/linux-libc-headers/

And I've tried versions (binary) from SuSE 9.3 of capi4hylafax/libcapi all with
the same problem

So it seems that the problem does not directly lie in capi4hylafax (maybe)

Bug#323099: wget: non-free documentation [NONFREE-DOC:GFDL-1.2]

2005-08-14 Thread Ulf Harnhammar
Subject: wget: non-free documentation [NONFREE-DOC:GFDL-1.2]
Package: wget
Version: 1.10-3+1.10.1beta1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.1?

Hello,

both wget's man page and its info documentation are licensed under GFDL 1.2
or later. According to debian-legal, GFDL doesn't conform to the DFSG, so these
files must be removed from main.

As an aside, the debian/copyright file for wget only lists the license for the
wget program and not the license for the wget documentation.

Yes, but they are not found anymore because the include patch has

Bug#322961: kaffeine-mozilla: jri*.h use All rights reserved copyright boilerplate and have no other license info

2005-08-14 Thread Zack Cerza
On 2005 August 13 Saturday 19:04, Steve Langasek wrote:
So are you filing this bug because Netscape isn't mentioned in the
copyright file, or because you actually believe we don't have a proper
license to them? There are equivalently named files in the mozilla source
and the mozilla-dev package, so I would be surprised if these files haven't
in fact been relicensed under the GPL. In that case, the copyright file
includes the correct license, it just doesn't include a complete list of
copyright holders, and that's not really an RC bug.

This issue was discovered during package checks by my AM. I've brought it up
with upstream, and their response consisted of the exact same files exist in
kdebase/nsplugins - so I went to KDE upstream with the same issue, and got a
single response_. So, no communication I've initiated has convinced me that
we have (or anyone has) a license to distribute the files in question. That
said, I could certainly be wrong and be asking the wrong people. I sincerely
hope so.

.. _response: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-core-develm=112314862006216w=2

I filed the bug, at his request, to document our findings and prepare for the
possibility that the package would have to be removed from the archive. In
case this is all a misunderstanding, though, the copyright file still does
need to be updated.

Thanks,
Zack

Bug#319526: MySQL security bug in sarge (CAN-2005-1636)

2005-08-14 Thread Christian Hammers
Hello Security Team

Are you aware of this bug? The interdiff patch are already in the BTS.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=319526
Applied the upstream patch that fixes a tempfile vulnerability in the
mysqld_install_db script that was found by Eric Romang and allows an
attacker to execute arbitrary SQL commands when the server is installed
or updated. The issue is known as CAN-2005-1636, the patch was made by
comparing this version against the one from 4.1.12.

When building 'quelcom' on amd64/unstable,
I get the following error:

g++ -g -DNLS -Wall -fPIC -o qwavsample.o -c qwavsample.cc
qwavsample.cc: In constructor 'qwavsample::qwavsample(qwav*, u_int32_t)':
qwavsample.cc:29: error: cast from 'qwavsample::sample*' to 'int' loses
precision
qwavsample.cc: In constructor 'qwavsample::qwavsample(char*, u_int32_t,
u_int32_t)':
qwavsample.cc:66: error: cast from 'qwavsample::sample*' to 'int' loses
precision
make[2]: *** [qwavsample.o] Error 1

With the attached patch 'quelcom' can be compiled
on amd64 using gcc-4.0.

Regards
Andreas Jochens
