This causes a segfault after running for some time with a log message Jul 13 22:26:00 moya named[27422]: rbtdb.c:1174: REQUIRE(prev 0) failed Jul 13 22:26:00 moya named[27422]: exiting (due to assertion failure) and surely causes other serious errors depending on the combination of versions of these two packages actually installed. Also note below that liblwres30 still has this old version. I don't know if this will also cause problems. The actual error is that bind9 looks for the shlib deps in the wrong place, and library package should be (for current-lenny) libbind9-31, not libbind9-30. All of this already got fixed in the 9.5.0 tree. Also note below that liblwres30 still has this old version. I don't know if this will also cause problems. Since it appears to be compiled with bind9, an version for its dependency should probably be added too. liblwres30 did not change abi. OTOH, the build was looking for the library in the wrong place as well. It now looks in the right place. I'll upload a new 9.4.2 within the next day or so. lamont ---End Message---

Hi hppa buildd admins, it looks like speedy-cgi-perl is somehow quarantined on hppa; 2.22-10 has been in the 'Needs-Build' state for a month now. The 2.22-9 FTBFS (#486070) should be fixed in 2.22-10, so could you please requeue it? Hello Luk et al, allright, thanks for your comment. I'll copy this discussion over to Christian Marillat. Sure, but how about our libavutil pakage Conflicting against all of Marillat's packages except libavutil itself? All our packages depend on libavutil, so this would solve half the problem. then our libavutil would conflict against our other packages. I don't think this will work. We could do the same for our libavcodec package (conflicting against all of Marillat's packages except libavcodec itself). This should fix many of the problems, or do I miss anything? I think this will result in uninstallable packages, unless I didn't misunderstood your proposal. Please don't add extra logic in Debian packages to conflict against packages outside Debian. This is not scalable for a start, anyone can start asking for more conflicts. The other way around is scalable and logical: add conflicts in packages outside Debian against packages inside Debian if necessary. Cheers Luk -- Dipl.-Phys. Please explain. Pushing a fix to stable-security is easy -- we can patch the needed permission into refpolicy and ship it out as an update (http://tinyurl.com/5m3oza has a set of patched packages to do that). The problem is that with the way the refpolicy packages work today, this will fix only new installations; preexisting ones will stay broken. That will take a little time, and I don't want to do it without some testing and review, if at all possible with the refpolicy maintainers themselves -- mistakes in selinux configuration could either screw us now or set us up for trouble in the future. In the interim, we can address questions about the near-term breakage with a documented workaround. I've drafted one such here: http://wiki.debian.org/SELinux/Issues/BindPortRandomization Edits and clarifications, as well as input on a long-term fix, would be welcome. - -- Devin \ aqua(at)devin.com, IRC:Requiem; http://www.devin.com Carraway \ 1024D/E9ABFCD2: 13E7 199E DD1E 65F0 8905 2E43 5395 CA0D E9AB FCD2 -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFIfFh3U5XKDemr/NIRAmP2AKCZFYeDzyNYtfrlw5falDubIQZO6gCfQWZi /rV6aSMzAyt2mZHmBB/1qbo= =jlYt -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#488934: [SRM] stable upload for licq?
On Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 11:44:33PM +0200, Frank Lichtenheld wrote: licq in stable is currently unusable due to server-side changes (see bug #488934). The patch is trivial and I have confirmed that it applies to the stable version and works. The question now is where to upload to? Is this ok for a stable point release? Or should this go into volatile instead? I don't think licq is that volatile, at least judging from history. But currently the version in stable is broken, and thus warrants an upload to stable-proposed-updates. So please go ahead and upload to ftp-master. Kind regards, Philipp Kern -- .''`. Bug#490921: CVE-2008-2232: privilege escalation
Package: afuse Version: 0.2-2 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole Hi A privilege escalation has been reported against afuse. This issue is CVE-2008-2232. Here is some additional information: afuse accepts a command line of the form afuse /path -o mount_template=mount-script %m %r \ unmount_template=unmount-script %m %r It replaces %m with the mountpoint and %r with the next component of the pathname being accessed. These interpolated strings are inserted inside double quotes, but metacharacters within them are not escaped. The resulting string is then passed to system() and executed by the shell. Therefore, an attacker with read access to the afuse filesystem can gain the privileges of its owner, using paths such as /path/;arbitrary command; /path/`arbitrary command` The patch attached is from the original is from the original reporter Anders Kaseorg, please honour him in the changelog. When you fix this issue, please mention the CVE id in your changelog. Getting rid of the libjava plugins in /etc/lib/mozilla/plugins and /etc/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins and replacing j2re1.4 by sun-java6-plugin did the trick. Well, the point is that there is not other replacement for this package. It exists a new upstream with a better, modularized, etc..., library by the same author, but it's not in Debian yet. I'm not using it anymore and I'm not considering to package the new one. What it is better? Leave a dead package in the pool waiting for a the new package or removing avoiding any problem with possible security issues or similar leaving Debian without it? It can be removed, in my opinion. Bug#490340: segfaults when calling QTextBrowser.setText()
Hi, from the looks of it, this is a bug in the program. Please cf the documentation of PyQt3 [0]. Support for Threads * If you use the Python API then all calls to PyQt (including any imports) must be done from one thread only. Therefore, if you want to make calls to PyQt from several threads then you must use the Qt API. * If you want to use both APIs in the same application then all calls to PyQt must be done from threads created using the Qt API. IMHO, this restriction is violated in the code in question, and maybe also in reportbug-ng. The clean solution would be to communicate via queues etc, and only call PyQt functions in the main thread. I'll have a look into this. best, Torsten [0] http://www.riverbankcomputing.co.uk/static/Docs/PyQt3/PyQt.html -- .: Torsten Marek .: http://shlomme.diotavelli.net .: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- GnuPG: 1024D/A244C858 signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil
Bug#490975: devil: glXGetProcAddressARB implicitly converted to pointer
Package: devil Version: 1.6.8-rc2-1 Severity: serious Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64. Function `glXGetProcAddressARB' implicitly converted to pointer at ilut_opengl.c:116 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. Building with -DGLX_GLXEXT_LEGACY seems to avoid this problem, but I don't know that it is the most appropriate solution. Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed (e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity. Bug#479607: linux-image-2.6.25-1-amd64: Kernel panic: Unable to mount root
Package: lilo Version: 1:22.8-5 CPU: intel Core2Duo 8400 Board: Gigabyte GA P35-DS3R Hi, the kernel linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64 (Version 2.6.25-6, migrated to testing) fails to boot with Kernel panic, even with lilo 1:22.8-5. Adding large-memory to lilo.conf solves the problem for me. If it solves the problem in general, it should be added by default in lilo.conf. At least there should be some warnings before installing lilo and leaving the system unbootable. Just for information: the next problem I had to deal with, after I was able to boot, was #479709 Kernel 2.6.25 freezes, because of some problems with HPET (which is default on new systems) No luck with the 2.6.25 transition to testing... best regards Jörgen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] immediately.) -- 490921: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=490921 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] with problems ---BeginMessage--- Package: afuse Version: 0.2-2 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole Hi A privilege escalation has been reported against afuse. Can you please check if that changed anything? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The Gnome screen resolution preferences does not offer me any other options than 800x600, 60Hz. The screen (A DELL 2100FP) is capable of 1600x1200 and the video card is capable of driving it at that resolution if I add the following two lines to the Monitor section: HorizSync 31-80 VertRefresh 56-76 Though, the gdm login screen is displayed at 1920x1200, which makes the pixels seem high and narrow, rather than square. It corrects to 1600x1200 after logging in. Interestingly, if I do that, I get an error dialog box saying: Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate the factory. Killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting Nautilus may help fix the problem. If I click OK, then Nautilus starts and everything is normal... Go figure! Steps to reproduce: * Create a lot of logs that will not be filtered by logcheck. (very easy). 10MBytes should be enough. You have an hour to do so. * When logcheck runs it will produce a file of size X MBytes to be mailed to root * Most MTAs have a limit for the maximum message size. This rebuild was done with gcc 4.3 instead of gcc 4.2, because gcc 4.3 is now the default on most architectures (even if it's not the case on i386 yet). Adding large-memory to lilo.conf solves the problem for me. If it solves the problem in general, it should be added by default in lilo.conf. At least there should be some warnings before installing lilo and leaving the system unbootable. Just for information: the next problem I had to deal with, after I was able to boot, was #479709 Kernel 2.6.25 freezes, because of some problems with HPET (which is default on new systems) No luck with the 2.6.25 transition to testing... best regards Jörgen signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Bug#488934: [SRM] stable upload for licq?

The patch is trivial and I have confirmed that it applies to the stable version and works. The question now is where to upload to? Is this ok for a stable point release? Or should this go into volatile instead? I don't think licq is that volatile, at least judging from history. But currently the version in stable is broken, and thus warrants an upload to stable-proposed-updates. So please go ahead and upload to ftp-master.
