Yes, I tried to push the thread to let it get more attention.

So, what's the status of this package?

Unchanged. Anyway, this isn’t urgent at the moment, as trang is not in
Lenny; since no Java or QA people reacted at the time I posted the fix,
I decided to postpone it.

Hello,

The Eclectic One, le Sun 01 Feb 2009 02:10:57 +, a écrit :
It seems counter-intuitive that configuring the package doesn't
 actually do it.

That's however how a lot of packages work: you have to read the
documentation to know how to configure it (it even tells you where it
is :) ). That being said, the debian packaging could provide debconf
templates to build a lircd.conf file, changing the bug so.

LD is 15000, and ZARRAY is 1..NM (1). The attached patch fix things
for me on all examples/

The various observed behaviors are probably due to different allocation

Bug#513743: OO-calc bug

found 513743 1:2.4.1-16
thanks

Hi,

Jorge Barreiro wrote:
I can confirm this bug. I'm using Lenny in an amd64 machine.

I just tried on my amd64 again; I can reproduce it with 2.4.1-17 on amd64 but
(just for the record) not with 3.0.1-1...

I just started calc with an empty spreadsheet, selected sheet 2 (or 3) and it
crashed. This happens with version -16 too, but with -15 everything works
 fine.

Ah, at least someone who says this happened with -16 already...

I also noted that just downgrading the package openoffice.org-core to the -15
version is enough to get rid of the bug (you don't need to downgrade the
 openoffice.org-calc package).

OK, that's what I already guessed from the backtrace. (as a lib in -core
crashes)

Bug#513743: openoffice.org-calc: Calc always crash on Lenny

2009-02-01 Thread Alberto
Package: openoffice.org-calc
Version: 1:2.4.1-17
Followup-For: Bug #513743

I can confirm what Jorge Barreiro wrote.
I use lenny on amd64 with the default desktop task.
I haven't installed any particular java version
| # java --version
| java version 1.5.0
| gij (GNU libgcj) version 4.3.2
and I'm using nvidia proprietary driver.
| # lsmod | grep nvidia
| nvidia 8105072 26
| i2c_core 27936 2 nvidia,i2c_i801
I started Calc with $ ooffice -calc, I switched to Sheet 2 and then the
program crashes without providing any information in the shell.
I don't have this bug after downgrading to openoffice.org-core 2.4.1-15,
but the problem affects also -16 version.
Let me know if you need addtional informations.

Bug#513814: libmesh: debian/copyright and license problems

2009-02-01 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: libmesh
Version: 0.6.3.dfsg~rc1-1
Severity: serious

debian/copyright doesn't contain the full text of the QPL, which
is a policy violation.

Also the QPL code was apparently modified for libmesh, which is
probably a license violation since the QPL does not allow
distribution of modified source code, only in patch format
together with the original source code.

Gruesse,
Frank Lichtenheld

Severity: grave

It says 'opencity-data (= ${source:Upstream-Version})' which I think can
never work (I guess it meant = or something like that).

This leads to the current experimental packages having:

 * dep: opencity-data (= 0.0.6.1stable)
which makes the package not even installable.

Bug#513735: patch

2009-02-01 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Actually, this patch will not really fix anything, because the
ru_RU.KOI8-R locale needs to have been previously generated and
installed on the system, for this to work. Otherwise, declaring LANG
and LC_ALL (with or without the export statement) will always fall
back to the C locale that is the default on Debian's archive buildd
network.

The only way we could sort-of fix this would be to Build-Depends upon
locales-all to ensure that KOI8-R is always generated and installed
before we start the build. However, I don't like that solution,
because Debian derivatives such as Ubuntu don't offer that same
locales-all metapackage and I want to avoid forking the packaging.

Alternately, we could call 'locale-gen' in early building stages to
generate the locale, before we proceed with building the dictionaries.
However, I'm not sure how we'd delete the locale during cleanup after
the build process is complete.

Still, it puzzles me how we managed to build the package just fine
until recently without all that fuzz.

Martin-Éric

Bug#513810: hibernate: MacBook hangs after Suspending console(s)

2009-02-01 Thread Thomas Zander
Package: hibernate
Version: 1.99-1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

either suspending to ram or to disk fails and hangs the machine.

I have a MacBook 2 (white) with 2.6.26-1-686 cleanly installed (Lenny) just
last week.
When I call either suspend or hibernate it switches to a text console and
prints a couple of lines the last one being the Suspending console(s).
Googling shows this is a kernel bug, not sure if that means I should have
reported here or to another package. Please reassign if needed.

Thanks.

Bug#513796: php5-xapian: PHP license incompatible with Xapian

2009-02-01 Thread Sylvain Beucler
Package: php5-xapian
Version: 1.0.7-3.1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.3

The PHP license is incompatible with the GNU GPL license due to
strong restrictions on the usage of the term 'PHP'.

Thus combining PHP and Xapian through the php5-xapian module is
not permitted and cannot be redistributed.

This issue was raised upstream but hasn't been resolved (and
probably can't at their level):
http://trac.xapian.org/ticket/191

It would nice to:

- check with debian-legal to confirm

- contact the PHP community so they convert these naming
restrictions into a proper trademark, making the copyright
license GPL-compatible (like other scripting languages)

Hi,

I upgraded to Lenny the other day, and now most of the icons in synaptic are
missing. It makes it quite difficult to use, as know I can't see which
packages are installed, not installed or marked, as this is usually indicated
with icons. Note that I don't have a full blown X server running on the
system, I just log in via ssh -X every now and then and use synaptic then.

The output when invoked from the command line is at the end of this mail.

Installing hicolor-icon-theme fixed the problem, so please add it as depends.
Thank you for maintaining this package!

Kind regards,
Lee

The simple work-around is to modify dpkg-deb to create tar archives

we should remove TAR_OPTIONS from the environment.

Then the bug to support posix tar archive can again be wishlist.

That could be even be done for lenny.

Proposed patch is attached. I'd like to hear opinions

Bug#513803: opencity 0.0.6.1stable-1 uninstallable

2009-02-01 Thread Bernhard R. Link
Package: opencity
Version: 0.0.6.1stable-1
Severity: grave

It says 'opencity-data (= ${source:Upstream-Version})' which I think can
never work (I guess it meant = or something like that).

This leads to the current experimental packages having:

 * dep: opencity-data (= 0.0.6.1stable)
which makes the package not even installable.

Disappointed,

Package: chmsee

Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

I just installed chmsee and it seems it either crashes on start on an
index file, when given a particular .chm file as a parameter, or fails
to open the .chm file, later crashing.

(I have just tested with the newer 1.0.3-1 package and it crashes, too
for _index.chm.)

Unfortunately, I am unsure if is legal for me to provide the sample CHM
file since is part of the Nokia SDK for S60 3rd edition Feature Pack 1
devices and that SDK is downladable through a make account, click
through procedure.

Here is the segfault on start:

0 e...@heidi ~/opt/symbian-sdks/s60_31/series60doc $ chmsee _index.chm

Also, I have seen that if I provide a .chw file to chmsee and then try
to open a valid file, chmsee would crash.

Package: gmetad
Version: 2.5.7-2

A buffer overflow in the interactive port for gmetad has been reported
upstream in :

  http://bugzilla.ganglia.info/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=223

this results in the posibility of remotely executing code as the user
that is running gmetad and affects all versions of gmetad that are
packaged by debian.

the following patch backports the fix to 2.5.7 and could be applied
to eliminate this vulnerability in oldstable/stable/testing/unstable.

a fix that could be used in the version for experimental can be obtained
from the reported url and will be included in 3.1.2

 a bad surprise.

Upgrades should not be affected, but you are of course still right for
new installations.

I understand that you would like to have trang in Lenny, but I don’t
know whether it is a good idea to actively get an orphaned package into
a stable release. I’m not willing to pick up this package, I merely
provided a patch for it last September.

I also see that there is movement on #454810, so I don’t really consider
it my task to follow this further.

However, I can get the output from nec2small in the same set of files.

This problem affects also the antennavis since it uses nec2.

Bug#513853: [sagemath] the i386 sage segfaults

2009-02-01 Thread Ondrej Certik
Package: sagemath
Version: 3.0.5dfsg-1
Severity: grave

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,

Tim, first let me congratulate you for getting sagemath to Debian, great job!

Currently the i386 package segfaults on my system:

$ sage
--
| SAGE Version 3.0.5, Release Date: 2008-07-11 |
| Type notebook() for the GUI, and license() for information.|
--

Unhandled SIGSEGV: A segmentation fault occured in SAGE.
This probably occured because a *compiled* component
of SAGE has a bug in it (typically accessing invalid memory)
or is not properly wrapped with _sig_on, _sig_off.
You might want to run SAGE under gdb with 'sage -gdb' to debug this.
SAGE will now terminate (sorry).

/usr/lib/sagemath/local/bin/sage-sage: line 216: 5137 Segmentation
fault  sage-ipython $@ -i -c $SAGE_STARTUP_COMMAND;

But I suspect it's just because the sagemath in Debian is old, so
packaging new upstream should fix it.

Ondrej

Bug#513857: dpkg: new conffile lost while replacing it on the same install run

2009-02-01 Thread Guillem Jover
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.13.2
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
User: d...@packages.debian.org
Usertags: conffile

Hi!

Riku Voipio found out while dealing with some transition in maemo that
in some cases when installing two new packages with a conffile, one of
the packages Replacing the other, the conffile completely disappeared
from the system.

After investigating I found out that if pkg A and B provide the same
conffile pathname, and B Replaces A, if B gets installed first and
then A, the conffile does not get properly installed. In the same
install run (as in «dpkg -i pkg-B pkg-A»), the conffile completely
disappears. In two runs (as in «dpkg -i pkg-B; dpkg -i pkg-A»), the
conffile does not get updated, so the old one remains.

On one hand this seems pretty nasty (thus the current severity), as
packages might stop working, it interrupts possibly unattended
installations with unneeded prompts, the user might get really
confused, and the fix is quite small, just moving two lines of code
around. But then it's also kind of self healing, as when upgrading B to
a new version the conffile should reappear or get updated, so I would
not complain if the release-team would like to lower this to important.

The relevant test-cases[0] (and results w/ unpatched dpkg) are:

  $ make -C t-conffile-replaces test
  $ make -C t-conffile-replaces-existing test

etch: Fail on test-one-run-reverse and test-two-run-reverse (not
checked yet, but I guess the latter only due to 508392)
  lenny: Fail on test-one-run-reverse.

  $ make -C t-conffile-replaces-upgrade test
  $ make -C t-conffile-replaces-existing-and-upgrade test

etch: Pass, although prompts unneedingly on test-one-run-ordered and
test-one-run-reverse (not checked yet, but I guess the latter
only due to 508392).
lenny: Pass, although prompts unneedingly on test-one-run-ordered.

guillem

return due to an already existing directory or a file not to be
overwritten.

Those calls are making sure that .dpkg-tmp and .dpkg-new files do not
exist, and will remove them if they do, which messes with the way
conffiles are handled by keeping those and acting on them later on.

Closes: #80416, #NN

The simple work-around is to modify dpkg-deb to create tar archives
used inside .deb with the option --format=gnu. Additionnaly, I think
we should remove TAR_OPTIONS from the environment.

Heh, I've actually had this in mind for some time, and created a similar
patch yesterday, only using -H instead of --format. And, yes it should
unset TAR_OPTIONS, as the docs state that it gets appended to the
options given on the command line.

Then the bug to support posix tar archive can again be wishlist.

Right, regardless of this getting fixed for lenny, it's the proper way
to deal with the bugs, so done so now.

That could be even be done for lenny.

Proposed patch is attached. I'd like to hear opinions from release
managers and from Guillem. I tested the patch and it seems to work
 satisfactorily.

Even if the patch is is quite safe, I don't think this is really needed
for lenny, as tar defaults are not going to be changed there, and new
packages with a possible newer tar are only going to be produced in sid
(or an up to date testing).

But then it would be safer to have this already in place, and if the
release-team is ok with including this, then I think that's of course
fine.

Note about the patch: it's on purpose that I didn't tag the error string for
translation, the error will never happen.

unsetenv should only fail on NULL, or when the variable contains
'=', so better to just call it and ignore the return value. And just
stylistic, but maybe better to place the format argument in more or
less the same place in both calls. So once it's settled to which
branch to commit to, just go ahead.

guillem

Bug#513853: [sagemath] the i386 sage segfaults

2009-02-01 Thread Tim Abbott

Hi Ondrej,

I certainly am not surprised that it doesn't work given how long it has
had to bitrot in the NEW queue, but I just upgraded my i386 test machine
to the latest sid and installed from sid, and it did work:

I'll try to reproduce again in a clean environment this weekend.

Hi,

Tim, first let me congratulate you for getting sagemath to Debian, great job!

Currently the i386 package segfaults on my system:

$ sage
--
| SAGE Version 3.0.5, Release Date: 2008-07-11 |
| Type notebook() for the GUI, and license() for information.|
--

Unhandled SIGSEGV: A segmentation fault occured in SAGE.
This probably occured because a *compiled* component
of SAGE has a bug in it (typically accessing invalid memory)
or is not properly wrapped with _sig_on, _sig_off.
You might want to run SAGE under gdb with 'sage -gdb' to debug this.
SAGE will now terminate (sorry).

/usr/lib/sagemath/local/bin/sage-sage: line 216: 5137 Segmentation
fault  sage-ipython $@ -i -c $SAGE_STARTUP_COMMAND;

But I suspect it's just because the sagemath in Debian is old, so
packaging new upstream should fix it.

Package: nagios-snmp-plugins
Version: 1.1.1-5
Severity: serious

While looking at the ubuntu bugs for the package just for fun, I noticed[1]
that I use /usr/share/nagios-plugins/dpkg/functions (which is shiped with
nagios-plugins-basic) in postinst of nagios-snmp-plugins.
If nagios-plugins-basic isn't installed, nagios-snmp-plugins fails to register
the command files with ucf and install them in /etc (/etc/nagios-
plugins/config)

Bug#513735: patch

2009-02-01 Thread Fedor P. Goncharov
Actually, this patch will not really fix anything, because the
ru_RU.KOI8-R locale needs to have been previously generated and
installed on the system, for this to work. Otherwise, declaring LANG
and LC_ALL (with or without the export statement) will always fall
back to the C locale that is the default on Debian's archive buildd
network.
Seems Alexander was right, C locale will be work too.

Bug#513873: sagemath: FTBFS on amd64

2009-02-01 Thread Tim Abbott

Hi Ben,

It appears that the package did build on amd64 on the Debian buildd
system:

http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?pkg=sagemathver=3.0.5dfsg-1arch=amd64

I guess this means that the amd64 buildd machines have time installed.

I'll add the missing build dependency on my next upload, probably this
weekend (it's probably also a missing runtime dependency ...).

2009-02-01 Thread Sam Morris
reassign 513852 network-manager

thanks

It turns out that this bug is caused by the attached interfaces file.
Specifically, the 'home' interface stanza--commenting that out causes
the system to return to normal.

I've no idea why network-manager is setting the system hostname to
'localhost.localdomain' (see the merged bug, above) but commenting out
the 'home' interface also prevents this from occurring.

I just started calc with an empty spreadsheet, selected sheet 2 (or 3) and
  it
crashed. This happens with version -16 too, but with -15 everything works
  fine.

Ah, at least someone who says this happened with -16 already...

I also noted that just downgrading the package openoffice.org-core to the
  -15
version is enough to get rid of the bug (you don't need to downgrade the
  openoffice.org-calc package).

OK, that's what I already guessed from the backtrace. (as a lib in -core
 crashes)

The only code change in -16 was the fix for the hidden text problem (#507865).
That shouldn't affect it (and indeed, it does not...)

To be honest, I don't have a clue about this. Eike, Stephan/Kay, any idea?

Bug#513887: qtorrent: contains non-dfsg free source code

2009-02-01 Thread Cristian Greco
Package: qtorrent
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

Hi,

the qtorrent/2.9.1 package currently includes some files from the
official 'BitTorrent' client which are licensed under the BitTorrent
Open Source License version 1.0 (BTOSL 1.0).

This license is likely to be considered non-dfsg free. The problem has
been pointed out by me[0] when packaging the new version of deluge
client, which contains some similar code released under the BTOSL 1.1.
Issues with this license have been discussed previously on [1,2].

Interested source files are qtorrent-2.9.1/pyqtorrent3/BitTorrent/*.py.

Package bittorrent/3.4.2 includes similar source code from a previous
release which is released under a MIT-style license[3], but actually it
is rather unlikely that someone will be able to adapt all the code.

Further, qtorrent is obsoleted by qbittorrent[4] (written in Qt4,
actively maintained by me).

Maybe qtorrent should be removed from the archive.

Thanks,
Cristian

Bug#513889: linux-image-2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-amd64: AMD Phenom soft lockup - CPU#3 stuck for 11s [events/3:18]

2009-02-01 Thread Steve Kostecke
Package: linux-image-2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-amd64
Version: 2.6.24-6~etchnhalf.7
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

My amd64 system is subject to random lockups. Sometimes I can perform an
emergency sync, umount, and reboot using MagicSysRq. Other times I can
not. Sometimes I get a couple of days of uptime. Other times I have to
reboot several times a day.

This particular case was one of the times that I had to use the reset
button to restart the system. The system had become unresponsive after
running for about 48 hours without X running or any console user logins
(total uptime was ~ 5 days).

The first lock-up was:

Bug#513419: nautilus-python: CVE-2009-0317 untrusted search path vulnerability

2009-02-01 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Nico Golde n...@debian.org (28/01/2009):
 Package: nautilus-python
 Severity: grave
 Tags: security patch

I've just sponsored the package Evgeni has prepared without having it
through the usual “Intent to NMU” way for the following reasons:
 - security RC bugs  patch available;
 - no NACK for the proposed patch during the past days;
 - previous NMU was ACKed in advance, so I guess it won't be a big deal;
 - tight release schedule.

Please find attached the final source debdiff.

KiBi.

I can confirm this bug. I'm using Lenny in an amd64 machine.

I just tried on my amd64 again; I can reproduce it with 2.4.1-17 on amd64 but
(just for the record) not with 3.0.1-1...

I just started calc with an empty spreadsheet, selected sheet 2 (or 3) and
it
crashed. This happens with version -16 too, but with -15 everything works
 fine.

Ah, at least someone who says this happened with -16 already...

I also noted that just downgrading the package openoffice.org-core to the
-15
version is enough to get rid of the bug (you don't need to downgrade
the
 openoffice.org-calc package).

Hrm. I just did a testbuild in a testing chroot just for fun just to iron out
bugs in sid. And voilá, the compiled package works.

There was an error while trying to autobuild your package:

... on powerpc, which got this approach applied because the package is
rather useless there. There is no powerpc packages in the pool and it is
not planed to get sauerbraten released for it.

I'm personally not really sure if the way chosen to do that is proper,
but it is unfortunately needed because well, the package would build,
but it wouldn't be really be useable, the 3d acceleration doesn't work
somehow and noone wants to start the game to see one frame every some
seconds. :)
