severity 513769 wishlist retitle 513769 should provide debconf templates to generate lircd.conf thanks Hello, The Eclectic One, le Sun 01 Feb 2009 02:10:57 +, a écrit : It seems counter-intuitive that configuring the package doesn't actually do it. That's however how a lot of packages work: you have to read the documentation to know how to configure it (it even tells you where it is :) ). Bug#513735: patch
Actually, this patch will not really fix anything, because the ru_RU.KOI8-R locale needs to have been previously generated and installed on the system, for this to work. Otherwise, declaring LANG and LC_ALL (with or without the export statement) will always fall back to the C locale that is the default on Debian's archive buildd network. The only way we could sort-of fix this would be to Build-Depends upon locales-all to ensure that KOI8-R is always generated and installed before we start the build. However, I don't like that solution, because Debian derivatives such as Ubuntu don't offer that same locales-all metapackage and I want to avoid forking the packaging. Alternately, we could call 'locale-gen' in early building stages to generate the locale, before we proceed with building the dictionaries. However, I'm not sure how we'd delete the locale during cleanup after the build process is complete. Still, it puzzles me how we managed to build the package just fine until recently without all that fuzz. But trang is in Etch (and works well there). So, what about Etch users who need trang? When they upgrade to Lenny, they will have a bad surprise. Upgrades should not be affected, but you are of course still right for new installations. I understand that you would like to have trang in Lenny, but I don’t know whether it is a good idea to actively get an orphaned package into a stable release. I’m not willing to pick up this package, I merely provided a patch for it last September. I also see that there is movement on #454810, so I don’t really consider it my task to follow this further. Bug#513853: [sagemath] the i386 sage segfaults
Package: sagemath Version: 3.0.5dfsg-1 Severity: grave --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hi, Tim, first let me congratulate you for getting sagemath to Debian, great job! Currently the i386 package segfaults on my system: $ sage -- | SAGE Version 3.0.5, Release Date: 2008-07-11 | | Type notebook() for the GUI, and license() for information.| -- Unhandled SIGSEGV: A segmentation fault occured in SAGE. This probably occured because a *compiled* component of SAGE has a bug in it (typically accessing invalid memory) or is not properly wrapped with _sig_on, _sig_off. You might want to run SAGE under gdb with 'sage -gdb' to debug this. SAGE will now terminate (sorry). /usr/lib/sagemath/local/bin/sage-sage: line 216: 5137 Segmentation fault sage-ipython $@ -i -c $SAGE_STARTUP_COMMAND; But I suspect it's just because the sagemath in Debian is old, so packaging new upstream should fix it. Bug#513857: dpkg: new conffile lost while replacing it on the same install run
Package: dpkg Version: 1.13.2 Severity: serious Tags: patch User: d...@packages.debian.org Usertags: conffile Hi! Riku Voipio found out while dealing with some transition in maemo that in some cases when installing two new packages with a conffile, one of the packages Replacing the other, the conffile completely disappeared from the system. After investigating I found out that if pkg A and B provide the same conffile pathname, and B Replaces A, if B gets installed first and then A, the conffile does not get properly installed. In the same install run (as in «dpkg -i pkg-B pkg-A»), the conffile completely disappears. In two runs (as in «dpkg -i pkg-B; dpkg -i pkg-A»), the conffile does not get updated, so the old one remains. On one hand this seems pretty nasty (thus the current severity), as packages might stop working, it interrupts possibly unattended installations with unneeded prompts, the user might get really confused, and the fix is quite small, just moving two lines of code around. But then it's also kind of self healing, as when upgrading B to a new version the conffile should reappear or get updated, so I would not complain if the release-team would like to lower this to important. The relevant test-cases[0] (and results w/ unpatched dpkg) are: $ make -C t-conffile-replaces test $ make -C t-conffile-replaces-existing test etch: Fail on test-one-run-reverse and test-two-run-reverse (not checked yet, but I guess the latter only due to 508392) lenny: Fail on test-one-run-reverse. $ make -C t-conffile-replaces-upgrade test $ make -C t-conffile-replaces-existing-and-upgrade test etch: Pass, although prompts unneedingly on test-one-run-ordered and test-one-run-reverse (not checked yet, but I guess the latter only due to 508392). lenny: Pass, although prompts unneedingly on test-one-run-ordered. regards, guillem [0] git://git.hadrons.org/git/debian/dpkg/pkg-tests.git From 06a4219e277d5b945b988bbac784510da0a0df04 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Guillem Jover guil...@debian.org Date: Sun, 1 Feb 2009 20:16:29 +0200 Subject: [PATCH] Do not lose a conffile while replacing it on the same install run Only do the ensure_pathname_nonexisting calls when we are not going to return due to an already existing directory or a file not to be overwritten. Bug#291194: Raising severity
clone 291194 -1 retitle -1 dpkg-deb: should force generating gnu tar archives severity 291194 wishlist tag 291194 - lenny-ignore thanks Hi! On Sun, 2009-02-01 at 11:23:43 +0100, Raphael Hertzog wrote: On Sat, 31 Jan 2009, Adrian Bunk wrote: I just ran into this bug when using a modified tar that defaults to create posix archives: The simple work-around is to modify dpkg-deb to create tar archives used inside .deb with the option --format=gnu. Additionnaly, I think we should remove TAR_OPTIONS from the environment. Heh, I've actually had this in mind for some time, and created a similar patch yesterday, only using -H instead of --format. And, yes it should unset TAR_OPTIONS, as the docs state that it gets appended to the options given on the command line. Then the bug to support posix tar archive can again be wishlist. Right, regardless of this getting fixed for lenny, it's the proper way to deal with the bugs, so done so now. That could be even be done for lenny. Proposed patch is attached. I'd like to hear opinions from release managers and from Guillem. I tested the patch and it seems to work satisfactorily. Even if the patch is is quite safe, I don't think this is really needed for lenny, as tar defaults are not going to be changed there, and new packages with a possible newer tar are only going to be produced in sid (or an up to date testing). But then it would be safer to have this already in place, and if the release-team is ok with including this, then I think that's of course fine. Note about the patch: it's on purpose that I didn't tag the error string for translation, the error will never happen. unsetenv should only fail on NULL, or when the variable contains '=', so better to just call it and ignore the return value. And just stylistic, but maybe better to place the format argument in more or less the same place in both calls. So once it's settled to which branch to commit to, just go ahead. regards, guillem -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#513872: Need to depend on nagios-plugins-basic
Package: nagios-snmp-plugins Version: 1.1.1-5 Severity: serious While looking at the ubuntu bugs for the package just for fun, I noticed[1] that I use /usr/share/nagios-plugins/dpkg/functions (which is shiped with nagios-plugins-basic) in postinst of nagios-snmp-plugins. Bug#513853: [sagemath] the i386 sage segfaults
Hi Ondrej, I certainly am not surprised that it doesn't work given how long it has had to bitrot in the NEW queue, but I just upgraded my i386 test machine to the latest sid and installed from sid, and it did work: I'll try to reproduce again in a clean environment this weekend. -Tim Abbott On Sun, 1 Feb 2009, Ondrej Certik wrote: Package: sagemath Version: 3.0.5dfsg-1 Severity: grave --- Please enter the report below this line. Bug#513735: patch
Actually, this patch will not really fix anything, because the ru_RU.KOI8-R locale needs to have been previously generated and installed on the system, for this to work. Otherwise, declaring LANG and LC_ALL (with or without the export statement) will always fall back to the C locale that is the default on Debian's archive buildd network. Seems Alexander was right, C locale will be work too. diff -Naur rus-ispell-0.99g5/debian/rules rus-ispell-0.99g5-fix/debian/rules --- rus-ispell-0.99g5/debian/rules 2009-02-02 05:13:55.0 +0600 +++ rus-ispell-0.99g5-fix/debian/rules 2009-02-02 05:16:20.0 +0600 @@ -13,10 +13,15 @@ LANG_COUNTRY=ru_RU DICT_LANG=ru +#need for grep, sortkoi8 and tr to work with dictionary encoding in koi8-r!!! +LANG=C +LC_ALL=C + build-arch: + # Generate additional dictionary with IO letters replaced by IE + grep -h '[£³]' $(DICTIONARIES) | tr '£³' 'Åå' io2ie_dictionary.koi # Generate ispell dictionary - grep -h '[£³]' $(DICTIONARIES) | tr '\243\263' '\305\345' yo_subst.koi - cat $(DICTIONARIES) yo_subst.koi |./sortkoi8 | uniq $(ILANGUAGE).dict + cat $(DICTIONARIES) io2ie_dictionary.koi | ./sortkoi8 | uniq $(ILANGUAGE).dict sed -e s/^\#[ye]//;s/^\#koi/wordchars/ $(ILANGUAGE).aff.koi $(ILANGUAGE).aff buildhash $(ILANGUAGE).dict $(ILANGUAGE).aff $(ILANGUAGE).hash # Generate myspell dictionary @@ -36,7 +41,7 @@ clean:: # Clean ispell files. - rm -f *.cnt *.hash *.stat yo_subst.koi + rm -f *.cnt *.hash *.stat io2ie_dictionary.koi # Also delete aff and dict, since we build them here. rm -f $(ILANGUAGE).aff $(ILANGUAGE).dict # Clean myspell files.
Bug#513873: sagemath: FTBFS on amd64
Hi Ben, It appears that the package did build on amd64 on the Debian buildd system: http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?pkg=sagemathver=3.0.5dfsg-1arch=amd64 I guess this means that the amd64 buildd machines have time installed. Bug#513743: OO-calc bug
tag 513743 + help thanks Hi, Rene Engelhard wrote: found 513743 1:2.4.1-16 thanks {...} I just started calc with an empty spreadsheet, selected sheet 2 (or 3) and it crashed. This happens with version -16 too, but with -15 everything works fine. Ah, at least someone who says this happened with -16 already... I also noted that just downgrading the package openoffice.org-core to the -15 version is enough to get rid of the bug (you don't need to downgrade the openoffice.org-calc package). OK, that's what I already guessed from the backtrace. (as a lib in -core crashes) The only code change in -16 was the fix for the hidden text problem (#507865). That shouldn't affect it (and indeed, it does not...) To be honest, I don't have a clue about this. Eike, Stephan/Kay, any idea? The full backtrace is: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. Bug#513887: qtorrent: contains non-dfsg free source code
Package: qtorrent Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.2.1 Hi, the qtorrent/2.9.1 package currently includes some files from the official 'BitTorrent' client which are licensed under the BitTorrent Open Source License version 1.0 (BTOSL 1.0). This license is likely to be considered non-dfsg free. The problem has been pointed out by me[0] when packaging the new version of deluge client, which contains some similar code released under the BTOSL 1.1. Issues with this license have been discussed previously on [1,2]. Interested source files are qtorrent-2.9.1/pyqtorrent3/BitTorrent/*.py. Package bittorrent/3.4.2 includes similar source code from a previous release which is released under a MIT-style license[3], but actually it is rather unlikely that someone will be able to adapt all the code. Further, qtorrent is obsoleted by qbittorrent[4] (written in Qt4, actively maintained by me). Maybe qtorrent should be removed from the archive. Package: linux-image-2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-amd64 Version: 2.6.24-6~etchnhalf.7 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system My amd64 system is subject to random lockups. Sometimes I can perform an emergency sync, umount, and reboot using MagicSysRq. Other times I can not. Sometimes I get a couple of days of uptime. Other times I have to reboot several times a day. This particular case was one of the times that I had to use the reset button to restart the system. The system had become unresponsive after running for about 48 hours without X running or any console user logins (total uptime was ~ 5 days).
