A sample is no negative proove.

amd64 is not the only architecture which defines /lib64 as its default
library path except in Debian. And this setting makes the build
unreliable.

 The system remains unbootable. If you have an older version of grub
 available on CD or FD you can use this to boot the system. The latest
 version of grub is indeed missing the command initrd. This isn't
 documented anywhere and it seems as if this command was canceled
 in favour of some other idea. Because of missing docs I was not able
 to find out what new idea this was!

Please see bug 512787 and 497791.
The problem is the `search --fs-uuid' line.
It seems like an old version of grub2 had a bug in the parser which is
already fixed, but grub-install is not run automatically on an upgrade.
Which reportbug should normally tell you if you report a bug against
grub-pc.

TYPO3 Security Bulletin TYPO3-SA-2009-002:
Information Disclosure XSS in TYPO3 Core

Problem Description 1: An Information Disclosure vulnerability in jumpUrl
mechanism, used to track access on web pages and provided files, allows a
remote attacker to read arbitrary files on a host.

The expected value of a mandatory hash secret, intended to invalidate such
requests, is exposed to remote users allowing them to bypass access control by
providing the correct value.

There's no authentication required to exploit this vulnerability. The
vulnerability allows to read any file, the web server user account has access
to.

Problem Description 2: Failing to sanitize user input, three fields in the
backend is open to Cross-Site Scripting (XSS).

Bug#514720: ghc6: cabal installation wrecks permissions

2009-02-10 Thread all-lists
Package: ghc6
Version: 6.8.2dfsg1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Sorry for posting again, but the previous report (via reportbug) did not show
up in the BTS.

Installing a self-made package with CABAL changes permissions of some files to
be readable only by root. This includes /usr/lib/ghc-6.8.2/package.conf which
makes GHCi unusable for all non-root users on the system. Also the installed
binaries and librares are not accessible by non-root users. Somehow the group
staff seems involved.

Installation is done with a default setup file (indentation=4)

#!/usr/bin/runhaskell

Hi,

Your packages have files in the /lib64/ on amd64. This will
break people's system. The files should be placed in the
/lib/ dir instead (on Debian systems).

Bug#502444: Question about the sshd bug

2009-02-10 Thread Tim Small

Goswin von Brederlow wrote:

Hi,

could it be that the problem occurs when two or more network interfaces come
up simultaneously? The first causes sshd to restart and the second then
sends a signal before the signal handler is installed. Does that sound
reasonable

The machine which was seeing the problems does have two NICs, although I
can't test whether the problem still occurs when only one is configured,
as the machine is in production now

If however someone is able to experiment with a machine which is still
seeing these symptoms, then I'd guess adding various:

pre-up sleep number

lines to /etc/network/interfaces (where number is different for each),
this should make the problem go away.

Hmm. It looks like the problem IS two successive reloads happening too
close together (maybe udev now brings up NICs in quick succession, or
parallel), since if I run this on the command line of a different lenny
machine:

for i in {1..20} ; do /etc/init.d/ssh reload  /etc/init.d/ssh reload
/etc/init.d/ssh reload  /etc/init.d/ssh reload ; done

then sshd normally dies within 10 or so reloads...

Tim.

Bug#512696: firmware-iwlwifi: Kernel panic when using iwl4965 and iwlwifi-4965-ucode-228.57.2.21

2009-02-10 Thread Oleg Broytmann
Well, found it - file
/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.26/drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/iwl-4965.h:

/* Change firmware file name, using - and incrementing number,
 * *only* when uCode interface or architecture changes so that it
 * is not compatible with earlier drivers.
 * This number will also appear in 8 position of 1st dword of uCode file
*/
#define IWL4965_UCODE_API -1

   I.e., the iwlwifi driver in the kernel 2.6.26 requires
iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode firmware file, and hence it cannot use 228.57.2.23. So
to fix the problem kernel (or iwlwifi driver) must be upgraded, then the
package firmware-iwlwifi could be upgraded. Or firmware-iwlwifi should be
downgraded to iwlwifi-4965-ucode-4.44.1.20.

Oleg.

- Were there any non-Debian packages installed before the upgrade? If
  so, what were they?

Sun Java 1.6.0_11 installed into /usr/local/java/jdk1.6.0_11/
(installed from vendor .bin from java.sun.com)
Latencytop 0.4 installed into /usr/local/sbin/latencytop
(compiled from source)

- Was the system pre-update a pure sarge system? If not, which packages
  were not from sarge?

The system was originally installed via a nightly etch debian-installer
from when etch was still in 'testing', and has tracked etch as
stable since then.

- Did any packages fail to upgrade?

Initially, yes: apcupsd and apcupsd-doc failed during
aptitude safe-upgrade with:
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/apcupsd-doc_3.14.4-1_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

 trying to overwrite `/usr/share/doc/apcupsd/examples/newslave.c.gz', which is

Apparently, this was caused by aptitude safe-upgrade deciding to hold
apcupsd during safe-upgrade, while still trying to upgrade apcupsd-doc.

- Were there any problems with the system after upgrading?

Yes, several:

* DHCP server (dhcp3-server):
  The system being upgraded acted as a DHCP server for the windows laptop
  client used to connect via ssh for the upgrade. The DHCP server was shut
  down for an extended period of time during the upgrade (as aptitude

2009-02-10 Thread Carl Fürstenberg
Package: mt-daapd

Justification: Policy 9.3.2

The policy states The init.d scripts must ensure that they will behave
sensibly if invoked with start when the service is already running, and
that to exit with a 1 isn't sensible, as it might bork upgrades.

 Hi,

 I have fixed some of them, and thus you do not see them above,
 but I think all of them should be fixed. I do not know how to work on
 the latest one, and I am not sure about why there are all these unused
 values.

 When I run the perl debugger on fwknop and set a breakpoint before
 pcap_loop, it gets stucked. This is due to the implementation of the C
 code, I think. Any idea how I can debug fwknop?

I have put this bug aside waiting for a reply. I do have another idea to
try but I have not taken the time yet.

Any help is welcome.

Bug#514763: anymeal: crashes for open or new database

2009-02-10 Thread Philipp Marek
After installing mysql-server-5.0 it goes a bit further, but still doesn't
work; after clicking connect I get a messagebox with this data (again
copy+paste, with special characters at the end).

Installing MySQL system tables...
Installation of system tables failed!
Examine the logs in /home/flip/.kde/share/apps/anymeal/db/2 for more
information.
You can try to start the mysqld daemon with:
/usr/sbin/mysqld --skip-grant
and use the command line tool
/usr/bin/mysql to connect to the mysql
database and look at the grant tables:
shell /usr/bin/mysql -u root mysql
mysql show tables
Try 'mysqld --help' if you have problems with paths. Using --log
gives you a log in /home/flip/.kde/share/apps/anymeal/db/2 that may be
helpful.
The latest information about MySQL is available on the web at
http://www.mysql.com
Please consult the MySQL manual section: 'Problems running mysql_install_db',
and the manual section that describes problems on your OS.
Another information source is the MySQL email archive.
Please check all of the above before mailing us!

You forgot to run an apt-get upgrade, I guess iceape-dev and xulrunner
are out of date.

The same was happening on the buildds until they could install
up-to-date build dependencies, but all of them have built them
successfully now so closing this bug.

Please read carefully the instruction at [1], so the pkg-fso-maint

duplicate.

Bug#514780: apticron: changes to cron.d file are disregarded or cause postinst to fail

2009-02-10 Thread Cameron Dale
Package: apticron
Version: 1.1.27
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.7.3: local changes must be preserved during a package
upgrade

The postinst script generates errors when it greps through my modified
/etc/cron.d/apticron file. All I did was to comment out the cron entry
like below, as I prefer to run a more complicated script from
/etc/cron.daily/apticron:

# cron entry for apticron

#57 22 * * * root test -x /usr/sbin/apticron  /usr/sbin/apticron --cron

I don't think this is unreasonable behavior, as the postinst script should
be able to handle such changes to a config file.

I added set -x to the postinst to get this debug output to diagnose
the problem:

$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
Setting up apticron (1.1.27) ...
+ case $1 in
+ . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule
++ '[' '!' '' ']'
++ PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1
++ export PERL_DL_NONLAZY
++ '[' '' ']'
++ exec /usr/share/debconf/frontend /var/lib/dpkg/info/apticron.postinst
configure 1.1.25
+ case $1 in
+ . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule
++ '[' '!' 1 ']'
++ '[' -z '' ']'
++ exec
++ '[' '' ']'
++ exec
++ DEBCONF_REDIR=1
++ export DEBCONF_REDIR
+ db_get apticron/notification
+ _db_cmd 'GET apticron/notification'
+ IFS=' '
+ printf '%s\n' 'GET apticron/notification'
+ IFS='
'
+ read -r _db_internal_line
+ RET=root
+ case ${_db_internal_line%%[   ]*} in
+ return 0
+ EMAIL=root
+ '[' '!' -d /etc/apticron/ ']'
++ mktemp -t apticron.conf.XX
+ tmpfile=/tmp/apticron.conf.DzuXiomPWj
+ cat
+ ucf --debconf-ok --three-way /tmp/apticron.conf.DzuXiomPWj
/etc/apticron/apticron.conf
+ rm -f /tmp/apticron.conf.DzuXiomPWj
+ '[' -f /etc/cron.d/apticron ']'
++ grep -v '^[[:space:]]*\(\#\|$\)' /etc/cron.d/apticron
++ read min hour null
+ time=
dpkg: error processing apticron (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 apticron

In this case, the grep statement is returning nothing, which I think causes
the read to generate the error.

You probably need to do some error checking in the postinst, such as to
grep -q first to make sure there is some ouput from it.

Thanks,
Cameron

I'll need to try to reproduce that somehow and track it down. I'm not
comfortable with forcibly killing mt-daapd, as it could have side

down the road (mt-daapd not starting and/or loss of the database).

Bug#514525: free(): invalid pointer when modifying styles

2009-02-10 Thread Patrik Fimml
Hey,

I just found the problem:

abiword is allocating a tree path with gtk_tree_path_new(), but freeing
it with g_free (vs. gtk_tree_path_free). As gtk_tree_path_new does not
necessarily use malloc() but may also utilize faster memory management
functions, this leads to the described free() error. Besides, using
g_free() will leak memory.

A patch is attached. This fixes the problem for me, which I have been
able to reproduce on amd64.

Kind regards,
Patrik

xautolock uses an already freed memory address for starting the locker.

valgrind says:

I noticed this because whenever I let xautolock start from my .xsessionrc it
would fail to start my screen locker. Instead of this:
  swarp 840 525 ; xset dpms force off ; slock
it started something like this, according to strace (the corruption didn't
always look the same):
  swarp 840 525 ; xset dpms force off ; slo\377\377\300

Because xset turned off the screen, I didn't notice that slock wasn't started
and thus my screen wasn't locked, which is why I think this is a security issue.
Feel free to correct me. ;)

Greetings
Uli Schlachter

Severity: important

The stanza created by 00_header makes the bootloader crash. There is no
output by grub whatsoever,
the machine reboots immediately.

If I remove this stanza and then enter those commands at the grub cmdline
one by one,
the crash occurs in the search --fs-uuid ... line. But search only
crashes for LVM.
If I don't insmod lvm, the search command just prints some not-found
message, which
is expected, but doesn't produce a crash.

Hi,

When gnumach is installed grub-pc fails to install due to at least the
missing function make_system_path_relative_to_its_root. Also afterwards
it aborts if it cannot find the needed stuff to successfully boot a Hurd
system, which should not be fatal on non Hurd systems. The attached
patch fixes those problems.

For upstream submission you might want to replace the dpkg invokation
with uname.

regards,
guillem

To fix this problem it is needed to link pyopenal module object file with
libalut (add '-l alut' option in ld command line; obviously add dependence
on libalut for this package). This problem is not seemed to be detected in
i386 distribution, where the module is already linked with libalut, but on
amd64 one and maybe other architectures.

For upstream submission you might want to replace the dpkg invokation
with uname.

guillem
