There was a thread about tilecache on the Debian GIS team list
recently. tilecache maintenance will be taken over by David Paleino
 and others from the team.

I can confirm this. I already uploaded a new version of tilecache to
experimental a few days ago.

I guess #602932 could be closed?

Kindly,

thanks for taking care of the tilecache package. I now have closed the
bug with version 2.11-1. However, the invalid maintainer address is in the
version that has already migrated to testing. I suggest that you discuss
with the release team whether this warrants an upload to sid and a freeze
exception.

Bug#599303: Managed to reproduce

2010-11-13 Thread Dr. David Alan Gilbert
Hi,
OK - I managed to reproduce this but it's a little subtle.

If you run ktoon under a Gnome desktop it works fine.
If you install KDE but still are running under Gnome it works fine.
If you actually start a KDE session then it does segfault.

(On Squeeze up to date as of now).

 Hey,

I tracked down the reason why this bug occurs, but instead of a quickfix
I decided to solve this by rethinking how the constant handling is done
in WWW::Curl. The libcurl guys were very helpful and some improvements
were done on the libcurl side aswell in constant detection to make life
 easier for bindings.

I'll be releasing 4.15 this weekend which should fix this bug and a
 broader range of constant problems.

Thanks a lot! I'm going to forward this information to our bugreports!

Thanks for your work, Bálint!

 It now works.

I tried to create a proper patch for this change; while doing so I
realized that there is already a patch in the source package that
touches exactly these lines but it's not applied (technically it's
applied but it only creates another patch file that doesn't get
applied).

I've now fixed the original patch (s. attachment); could someone who
knows more about python and gnome take a look at it and test it?

Bug#591193: perl script to regenerate the .swf files

Please find attached a patch which uses libswf-perl to generate replacements
for ad.swf and ad-clear.swf. The resulting flash files are not exactly the
same as the originals, but as mentioned on the bugreport, that's probably
not a big issue.

Bug#603388: FTBFS: build-depends on virtual package without declaring a real package

2010-11-13 Thread Neil Williams
Package: portaudio19
Version: 19+svn20071022-3.1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 7.1

portaudio19 build-depends on libjack0.100.0-dev which has no installation
candidate, causing multiple buildd failures:

https://buildd.debian.org/pkg.cgi?pkg=portaudio19

portaudio19 needs to decide which of the two packages which can provide
libjack0.100.0-dev should actually be used to build portaudio19 in Debian and
then put that as a preference:

 libjack-dev | libjack0.100.0-dev,

or

libjack-jackd2-dev | libjack0.100.0-dev,

This is preventing the fix for another RC bug (#563192) from actually getting
into Squeeze.

Please decide which jack -dev package is to be used. The buildd cannot decide
this for you.

Bug#594940: Includes binary-only and obfuscated C code

Sorry for the slight delay in responding to this.

Now we have to somehow prune current source tree and disable some
modules. Could we get squeeze-ignore tag for some of the affected

Ben's original lists included some files which we don't appear to be
able to distribute at all. If his analysis is correct then those files
at least would need to be removed rather than ignored.

The question is whether pruning following files suffices:

Apologies if this question has already been asked (I couldn't find the
previous occurrence if it has), but what would the effect on the
kfreebsd-* kernel be of removing all of the files which were originally
mentioned in Ben's mails in this bug report, and is that an option which
has been considered by the porters?

fwiw, if the current firmware-loading mechanism could be extended to
support using the firmware-* packages, the SRMs would be prepared to
look at introducing the updated mechanism - and any necessary new
firmware packages - as part of a Squeeze point release, if desired /
required.

Adam

Bug#599437: Looks like we should drop gdisk for squeeze

2010-11-13 Thread Steve McIntyre
Hi,

gdisk 0.5.1-1 is currently in squeeze and sid and has the RC bug
#599437 open against it. There's a new upstream version available
(0.6.13), but the change is huge (39 files changed, 9069
insertions(+), 2593 deletions(-)); IMHO the changes are far too large
for an update now.

The code in the older version of gdisk looks nasty, I'll be honest,
and I would rather see it removed. Small popcon usage and no rdeps.

Guillaume, I know you have the new upstream version waiting on a
sponsor. I might be persuaded to sponsor that for you targetting
post-squeeze.

Looking at the source, it looks like it's assuming that anything
non-Win32 and using GNU C is i386, so it's using inline i386 asm. I
can see some stuff in the Makefile for dealing with other
architectures, but there's no sign of it having any effect here.

I'd suggest changing this package to switch from Architecture: any to
list just i386 etc...

Bug#591194: tdiary: does not build .swf files from source

 Upstream says,

 - tdiarygraph and tdiarytimes do not have source, maybe.
 - it is contrib, so needless to ship all files.
 - they are not used widely now, so never mind to remove them.

So, basically, here we have a package in main testing/unstable with flash
files without sources.

The package cannot be released with squeeze as it is now, so I'll try to list
some options:

  1. Remove package from Squeeze (leaving it in unstable) and think about it
for the next release
  2. Move the package to non-free
  3. Find the sources and build flash files from source.
  4. Completely remove package from Debian.

Option 4 is probably the best answer for the long term if there is no effort in
fixing this issue.

Yes it is, but you have to start the keyring daemon after that. If you
are using GNOME or Xfce, this is done automatically.

Which session manager are you using?

Bug#599437: Looks like we should drop gdisk for squeeze

 Hi,

Hi,

gdisk 0.5.1-1 is currently in squeeze and sid and has the RC bug
#599437 open against it. There's a new upstream version available
(0.6.13), but the change is huge (39 files changed, 9069
insertions(+), 2593 deletions(-)); IMHO the changes are far too large
 for an update now.

I tried to contact upstream a week ago to know his opinion for fix these
bugs but i didn't received any answer at this moment.

The code in the older version of gdisk looks nasty, I'll be honest,
and I would rather see it removed. Small popcon usage and no rdeps.

I agree, it could be reasonnable to report the inclusion in the next
stable release.

Guillaume, I know you have the new upstream version waiting on a
sponsor. I might be persuaded to sponsor that for you targetting
 post-squeeze.

Thanks; i've to upload the last 0.6.13 on mentors (currently 0.6.11
uploaded).

Bug#599282: Looks like we should drop gdisk phamm for squeeze

2010-11-13 Thread Enrico Zini
Hello,

thanks for maintaning phamm.

phamm 0.5.18-2 is currently in squeeze and sid and has RC bugs open
against it.

Considering that the package has a very small number of users and that
we're supposed to release fairly soon, unless you have a fix ready now
to upload, it may be a good idea to just remove phamm from testing and
deal with this comfortably in unstable.

Would it make sense for you?

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#603402: Exporting in PDF selected pages of long documents pick up the wrong pagerange

2010-11-13 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: libreoffice-writer
Version: 1:3.3.0~beta2-2
Severity: grave

Steps to reproduce

1. Take a very long document (100+ pages)
2. Export a specific subset of pages in PDF
3. Check if the pages exported are the correct one

LibreOffice export a wrong range of page (say you asked pages 355-360, you may
end getting 358-363).

I classify the severity as grave as if you do not check the PDF before sending,
you could end sending confidential data to people who should not see it. That
is indeed what happened to me when I found this bug.

Here is the URI of a file which is affected by this issue
http://www.pitonyak.org/AndrewMacro.odt

If you ask exporting page 355-360, you end up getting 358-363

I notice you are using an 8-bit charset; perhaps there is some non-UTF-8

still present when you run “LANG=C LC_ALL=C ohai”?

I guess the results of “ohai -ldebug” could also be useful to diagnose
 the issue.

Good catch, it is indeed the case.

you can reproduce this bug by editing /etc/passwd, adding some accented
letter to some user's full name, :set fileencoding=latin1 and save.

Then ohai will indeed fail like that. It will also fail with LANG=C
LC_ALL=C.

Bug#594940: Includes binary-only and obfuscated C code

2010-11-13 Thread Petr Salinger

what would the effect on the
kfreebsd-* kernel be of removing all of the files which were originally
mentioned in Ben's mails in this bug report, and is that an option which
has been considered by the porters?

From my (non-DD) POV, the most problematic are network drivers

sys/dev/txp/3c990img.h
- binary is packaged in firmware-linux-nonfree as /lib/firmware/3com/typhoon.bin

sys/dev/fxp/rcvbundl.h
- binaries are packaged in firmware-linux-nonfree as /lib/firmware/e100/*

For our port is very important to release. It would be better to release
even without any of these drivers compared to not release at all ...

fwiw, if the current firmware-loading mechanism could be extended to
support using the firmware-* packages, the SRMs would be prepared to
look at introducing the updated mechanism - and any necessary new
firmware packages - as part of a Squeeze point release, if desired /
required.

Could be the plan:

1) drop all files from Ben's mail, repackage .orig.tgz, disable drivers
2) upload into sid and ask for propagation into squeeze
3) start extending firmware-loading mechanism
4a) upload into sid and ask for propagation into squeeze
4b) upload into stable-proposed-updates

Whether 4a or 4b depends on our timing.

I have to note, that this is my personal planing,
not planing of whole porter group, but I expect they would agree.

Petr

Bug#603405: gucharmap: missing source code needed to update unicode tables

2010-11-13 Thread Dwayne C. Litzenberger

Source: gucharmap
Version: 1:2.30.3-1
Justification: Policy 2.2.1
Severity: serious

The source package for gucharmap contains 7 automatically generated files:

gucharmap/unicode-blocks.h
gucharmap/unicode-categories.h
gucharmap/unicode-names.h
gucharmap/unicode-nameslist.h
gucharmap/unicode-scripts.h
gucharmap/unicode-unihan.h
gucharmap/unicode-versions.h

Each of these files contains the following header, making reference to a
script called gen-guch-unicode-tables.pl:

/* THIS IS A GENERATED FILE. CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN. */
/* Generated by ./gen-guch-unicode-tables.pl */
/* Generated from UCD version 5.2.0 */

I was trying to add support for the new Indian Rupee Symbol (U+20B9), but
the gen-guch-unicode-tables.pl script and the Unicode Character Database,
which form part of gucharmap's source code, were missing from the Debian
source package.

I've marked this bug with a severity of serious, since it violates the
DFSG requirement that a program include source code, as well as the GPL
requirement that the program be accompanied with its complete corresponding
source code (the preferred form of the work for making modifications to
it).

My suggestion for fixing this bug is as follows:

1. Include gen-guch-unicode-tables.pl in the gucharmap package;
2. Add unicode-data to the build-dependencies of gucharmap; and
3. Run gen-guch-unicode-tables.pl as part of the build process, using
the UCD from the unicode-data package.

There is some information at http://bugs.debian.org/318304 that may be
helpful in fixing this bug.

Regards,
- Dwayne

Bug#596351: reproducible, but could be removed from testing?

2010-11-13 Thread Chris Butler
FWIW, I managed to reproduce this. Simply edit /etc/passwd and add a
character above 127 in a non-UTF charset to one of the full-name fields - I
used £ in iso-8859-1 (using set fileencoding=iso-8859-1 in vim).

The ohai package currently in squeeze and sid has an RC bug
(#596351). The first message in the bugreport suggests that the problem
might actually be down to an old version of libjson-ruby (latest upstream
seems to be 1.4.6).

The popcon for ohai is pretty low (~50). Perhaps it could be considered for
removal from squeeze? I would imagine that wheezy will contain a version of
libjson-ruby that doesn't trigger the bug.

Bug#591974: Looks like we should drop libmojomojo-perl for squeeze

2010-11-13 Thread Enrico Zini
Hello,

thank you for maintaining mojomojo.

libmojomojo-perl 1.01-1 is currently in squeeze and sid and has RC bugs
open against it.

Considering that the package has a very small number of users, that
we're supposed to release fairly soon, and that this issue looks not
that easy to solve, it may be a good idea to just remove
libmojomojo-perl from testing and deal with this comfortably in
unstable.

Would it make sense for you?

Sure,

The only RC bugs known to me is #579227,

Last time I pinged upstream about it, he said that it would require a
rewrite of some key part of jscoverage in order to use the new parser
API in spidermonkey and remove the embedded copy.

I think it is a good idea to remove jscoverage from testing if it
blocks squeeze release, and I will keep updating the unstable package
when upstream publish a new major version.

Hi Enrico;

We've been talking about this on IRC and it was pointed out that for
such a new package, low popcon is not that convincing. There is a
tentative plan to rip out the swuploader blobs. Apparently the package
is still useful without them (according to upstream). Of course the
usual question of someone having time/motivation to do the repackaging
is there. So I would say not quite yet for removal, but if nothing
starts moving in the next week or so I would not oppose removal.

Bug#594150: CURLOPT_TIMEOUT defaults to zero seconds

2010-11-13 Thread Steve M. Robbins
Hi,

Reading through this bug report, I understand that the change in
apt-transport-https (not setting CURLOPT_TIMEOUT) broke apt-get.

David Kalnischkies reassigned this to libcur3-gnutls stating that the
default value for this option is 0 and implying that this is a bug.

Does curl really treat the default value as 0 seconds timeout on the
connection? Or does it treat 0 as unlimited (i.e. no timeout)? The
manpage for curl_easy_setopt is unclear on this.

I'm downloading the curl sources to check, but I'd be somewhat
surprised if this were the bug since it would affect basically all
usage of curl and would have been detected by others immediately.

Moreover, the notes on http://apt-test.aviatis.com/ say:

Intended behavior: apt-get update and all other apt commands work
as long as the specified client-side key/cert is given. Access is
denied if they are not given.

Actual observed behavior: on lenny, it works as intended. On
squeeze, the TCP connection is dropped and there are no successful
invocations of apt.

Noteworthy: on squeeze, curl seems to be able to access the files
successfully with the same key material. Try: curl

https://apt-test.aviatis.com/apt-cacher/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/Release
-k --cert
/etc/apt/client-certs/test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.crt --key
/etc/apt/client-certs/test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.key

So I'm left wondering whether the bug really is in apt-transport-https
after all?

Cheers,
-Steve

the two plugins that need those flash files removed.

I'm not going to do option 5 myself because I have no idea how to test tdiary,
but that seems like the only way we're likely to keep it in Squeeze.
Since tdiary is a leaf package with a lowish popcon score, I'm inclined to
ask the release team to drop tdiary from squeeze (i.e. option 1) if there isn't
any progress on this.

Simon

Bug#594150: CURLOPT_TIMEOUT defaults to zero seconds

curl treats a TIMEOUT explicitly set to 0 as a way to disable any previous set
timeouts and it goes back to the internal defaults - it is the same as not
usig CURLOPT_TIMEOUT at all.

Internal default is pretty much no timeout at all (the situation is a bit more
complicated than so, but in general you can consider it to be without
timeout).

I have no idea where this bug belongs, but I'm not aware of any bug like this
in curl.

Bug#594150: CURLOPT_TIMEOUT defaults to zero seconds

2010-11-13 Thread Simon McVittie
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

(Ramakrishnan, would you mind pushing recent versions of curl to git.debian.org?
The last thing there seems to be 7.20.1-2 with the tag missing.
If you've lost the git history since then, I have a tree of git-import-dsc
imports (plus some random hacking on the master branch to pin down which
error we're seeing here) at http://git.debian.org/?p=users/smcv/qa/curl.git.)

On Sat, 13 Nov 2010 at 15:53:17 -0600, Steve M. Robbins wrote:

Looking at the relevant source code, it seems to be intended to be
no timeout. This seems to need quite a few special cases, though, so it
wouldn't surprise me if one had been forgotten, particularly in the
less-often-used gnutls backend.

Noteworthy: on squeeze, curl seems to be able to access the files
successfully with the same key material. Try: curl

 https://apt-test.aviatis.com/apt-cacher/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/Release
 -k --cert
 /etc/apt/client-certs/test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.crt --key
 /etc/apt/client-certs/test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.key

However, curl(1) on Debian uses the OpenSSL variant of the library,
whereas apt-transport-https uses the GNUTLS one. By way of background info
for upstream: the binary package builds curl twice, once for each variant,
in debian/build and debian/build-gnutls (respectively), and packages them
separately; dependent packages choose one or the other according to their
licensing requirements (GPL things, like apt, need the GNUTLS variant).

The build tree in debian/build-gnutls is compiled --without-ssl --with-gnutls
- --without-libssh2, with some build-system patches to make it produce
libcurl-gnutls.so. There don't seem to be code changes, though, so hopefully
you might be able to reproduce this with an unpatched build with similar
./configure arguments.

While in the build tree of Debian's curl packages, you can test either version
with the corresponding curl command-line tool, even though the GNUTLS
variant isn't actually going to be installed. Hopefully I'm driving it
correctly here:

# OpenSSL backend, zero timeout, succeeds
./debian/build/src/curl -k
https://apt-test.aviatis.com/apt-cacher/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/Release
 --cert ../test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.crt --key
../test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.key

# OpenSSL backend, 10 second timeout, succeeds
./debian/build/src/curl -m10 -k
https://apt-test.aviatis.com/apt-cacher/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/Release
 --cert ../test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.crt --key
../test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.key

# GNUTLS backend, zero timeout, fails
./debian/build-gnutls/src/curl -k
https://apt-test.aviatis.com/apt-cacher/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/Release
 --cert ../test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.crt --key
../test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.key
curl: (28) SSL connection timeout

# GNUTLS backend, 10 second timeout, fails differently!
./debian/build-gnutls/src/curl -m10 -k
https://apt-test.aviatis.com/apt-cacher/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/Release
 --cert ../test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.crt --key
../test-client.apt-test.aviatis.com.key
curl: (28) gnutls_handshake() failed: Decryption has failed.

It turns out that the error in the GNUTLS, zero timeout test is the *second*
occurrence of this error message in lib/gtls.c handshake() (the one marked
as g2 in my git branch referenced above). Curl_timeleft() returns 0, and
Curl_socket_ready() also returns 0.

I ran out of brain at this point, I'm afraid... but hopefully this gives
someone a useful clue?

Simon

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install. As per
definition of the release team this makes the package too buggy for a
release, thus the severity.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

  Setting up trac (0.11.7-3) ...
  cd: 21: can't cd to /usr/lib/python*/site-packages/trac/htdocs/js
  dpkg: error processing trac (--configure):

trac is fine (see http://piuparts.debian.org/squeeze/source/t/trac.html) thats
why I filed the bug against trac-authopenid.

Bug#603405: gucharmap: missing source code needed to update unicode tables

2010-11-13 Thread Josselin Mouette
Le samedi 13 novembre 2010 à 14:06 -0500, Dwayne C. Litzenberger a
écrit :
I was trying to add support for the new Indian Rupee Symbol (U+20B9), but
the gen-guch-unicode-tables.pl script and the Unicode Character Database,
which form part of gucharmap's source code, were missing from the Debian
 source package.

The perl script looks like it was omitted from the tarballs. For the
Unicode tables, this is of course intentional, since that would make
8 MB more data just for them.

My suggestion for fixing this bug is as follows:

  1. Include gen-guch-unicode-tables.pl in the gucharmap package;
  2. Add unicode-data to the build-dependencies of gucharmap; and
  3. Run gen-guch-unicode-tables.pl as part of the build process, using
the UCD from the unicode-data package.

Patches are welcome; as for myself, I have more interesting things to
do. I already tried to do this kind of things to “auto-generated” files
in GTK+, and it turned out to be a disaster to implement, because you
need a specific version of the source files if you want to be sure there
is no side effect.

Cheers,

Bug#603307: marked as done (haskell-hxt-relaxng: FTBFS: missing build deps on hxt-charproperties, hxt-regex-xmlschema)

2010-11-13 Thread Debian Bug Tracking System

Package: haskell-hxt-relaxng
Version: 9.0.0-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Builds of haskell-hxt-relaxng in minimal environments (as the
autobuilders typically supply) are failing:

 Configuring hxt-relaxng-9.0.0...
hlibrary.setup: At least the following dependencies are missing:
 hxt ==9.*, hxt-charproperties ==9.*, hxt-regex-xmlschema ==9.*

This error points to two problems with its build dependencies:

- The dependencies on libghc6-hxt-* are unversioned, whereas Setup.hs
specifically requests a 9.x version; as such, please list them as
  libghc6-hxt-* (= 9), libghc6-hxt-* ( 10). (This issue also
applies to the -cache, -curl, -http, -tagsoup, and -xpath, and quite
  possible -xslt as well.)

- Moreover, build dependencies on hxt-charproperties and
hxt-regex-xmlschema packages are missing altogether, so automatic
builds of this package will continue to fail even with hxt 9 built.

Could you please address both issues, and properly version the other
HXT packages' build dependencies as well?

Thanks!

Indeed, there is no /usr/lib/python2.7/config directory. Unpacking
python2.7 with an explicit dpkg invocation allows the installation to
continue, so all is well.
