Hope you can do sumting about it but I can only run Stabel softwar on this server.
First of all, thanks for the clarification, it seems that the text and
attachment were lost during the initial submission. Can you explain the
bug filed as 292250 as well?

Also, I'm rather skeptical about fixing the bug in stable, which I can
only do with special approval by the Debian stable Release Manager. As a
rule of thumb (but one not imposed by me, so I'm not able to change it),
only security fixes and fixes of the the software deletes all files in
my home directory type are fixed in stable. So if it's just that
phpgroupware-todo doesn't work, there isn't much I can do about this.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but the strict update rules are
probably the reason you want to run stable.

Kind regards

Bug#279232: Perl related upgrade problems woody - sarge

2005-01-29 Thread Henning Glawe
Moin,
sorry, didn't send this to the bts last time.
My patched packages are since then working on about 50 computers at work.
Another thought about this: this problem will re-appear if perl is upgraded
to 6.0 (or whatever will be the next upstream release).

no. my patched perl-base 5.8 conflicts with the old perl-modules.

Bug#291944: Moving 'extension=imap.so' include in php.ini fixed segfault

We had segfault problems in both apache and apache-ssl. Commenting out
one line (extension=imap.so) from php.ini made both servers start
normally. This line was the last one in the php.ini configuration file.
Moving it furher up, so that it was not the last module to be loaded,
fixed this problem.

Can I get the installed versions of libc6 apache, libapache-mod-php4,
php4-imap, and any other extensions you have installed? This may not be
the same bug as the original submitter's, but it's also one that's
supposed to be fixed, and I'll be rather miffed if it just came back.

Bug#292752: tetex-base: Ships subdirectories of /usr/local in .deb, against Policy

2005-01-29 Thread Kevin B. McCarty
Package: tetex-base
Version: 2.0.2c-4
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 9.1.2

Hello,

I'm sorry to have to file this bug :-( but I think that shipping
directories under /usr/local in the tetex-base .deb is a Policy violation;
see section 9.1.2, fourth paragraph.

The rationale is that if I try to install the package on a computer where
/usr/local is mounted read-only (e.g. as an NFS share), the installation
will fail. (In my case at least, this is more than just a theoretical
worry.) Hence all creation of /usr/local subdirectories must be done in
postinst scripts, and must not cause the installation to fail if the
directory cannot be created.

Bug#271427: another Debian font bug

2005-01-29 Thread Dafydd Harries
Ar 29/01/2005 am 13:49, ysgrifennodd Danilo egan:
 Heya Daf,

Nice to see a known name working on thisit gives me a warm and fuzzy

Well, I got a nice feeling when I saw that you've been working on this
stuff before. :)

Today at 9:14, Dafydd Harries wrote:

I've been working on a font bug that's popped up in Debian. It's about
Cyrillic glyphs in the Ghostscript fonts, and I noticed when reading old

some progress tonight on fixing it. Your input would be appreciated.

Sure, here you go. Feel free to repost any or all of this to the
 bug-alias.

Great, CCing the bug.

  Here's the bug:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=271427

Strictly Serbian glyphs (used in none of the other Cyrillic languages,
except maybe some of them in Macedonian, but the same explanation
holds for them as well) are the following:

U+402 and U+452 (, , DJE), which you mention to have fixed already
U+408 and U+458 (, , JE), which are exactly the same as Latin J, so
there should be no problems with these
  U+409 and U+459 (, , LJE)
  U+40a and U+45a (, , NJE)
  U+40b and U+45b (, , TSHE)
  U+40f and U+45f (, , DZHE)

In addition to these, there're some variants in Adobe PUA (Private Use
Area), where same characters have slightly different appearance in
 Serbian and Russian:

U+f6c6: small cyrillic (U+434), different only in italic variants
U+f6c7: small cyrillic (U+43f), different only in italic variants
U+f6c8: small cyrillic (U+442), different only in italic variants

(These also have AFII glyph names [eg. U+f6c5 is afii10063], but they
seem to go only by generic Unicode-based names of uniF6C5 and similar
in generated PFB files from Valek.)

Ah, this list is just what I need. However, there are some glyphs which
are not in your list (see my previous mail to the bug report for
details), but which also seem to be broken. Perhaps some non-Serbian
Cyrillic glyphs are also broken.

All of these are correct in latest Valek's fonts, so you want to merge
them. Also, in your copy-glyphs.sh script, you seem not to be fixing
URW Chancery font (z003034l.*), which also needs correction on all of
 these (including above cursive variants).

The reason for this is that the Chancery font in the version of Valek's
fonts which I grabbed doesn't seem to contain any of the Serbian glyphs.
Also, the Nimbus Sans Condensed has a few broken/missing glyphs.

Also note that there're two modes of copying in FontForge: with
metrics, or just glyph outlines (without metrics). For all of these
glyphs, you want to copy metrics over as well. I don't know how this
is exactly done from scripts, but there's a Copy metadata in the
Edit menu somewhere, which modifies the basic copying behaviour in UI.
Perhaps Copy() works this way from scripts by default.

Fontforge seems to be modifying the font metrics when I copy the glyphs,
so I suspect it's happening automatically.

I looked in the Fontforge scripting reference
(http://fontforge.sourceforge.net/scripting.html) and couldn't find much
information either way, though there's a CopyGlyphFeatures function
which looks like it may be used to copy some metadata.

I have not yet learned how to watch a certain Debian bug, so please
keep me in CC, if you expect further responses from me :)

Unfortunately, the Debin bug tracking system doesn't have this feature
yet. I'll keep you informed on developments. :)

Bug#271427: another Debian font bug

Yes, I've noticed that you mention it, but I really can't help there,
since I'm not familiar with those glyphs, and how they're used or how
should they look. My guess would be as good as yours.

All Cyrillic outside 0x4000x45f range is used by non-Slavic Cyrillic
languages, so I really don't know anything about it.

The reason for this is that the Chancery font in the version of Valek's
fonts which I grabbed doesn't seem to contain any of the Serbian glyphs.
Also, the Nimbus Sans Condensed has a few broken/missing glyphs.

I've just checked 1.0.7pre39 tarball, and it has all of these. I
remember asking Valek to provide a SFD tarball a few releases before
that, but that didn't come with Chancery fixed-up (it was fixed a
release or two after the rest of the stuff), so perhaps you're using
that one instead?

Fontforge seems to be modifying the font metrics when I copy the glyphs,
so I suspect it's happening automatically.

Ah, ok, I just thought I'd mention it, since I'm not sure about it :)

Thanks Daf, I really appreciate that! (It's been a mess trying to get
this fixed up for Serbian, and I've been trying to do that for quite
some time already.)

Danilo

Bug#292226: Crack-Attack manpage

2005-01-29 Thread Margarita Manterola
Hi!

As you might be aware, there has been some mass bug-filing concerning
manpages licensed under the GFDL:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/01/msg00499.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/01/msg00262.html

In this case, you wrote the manpage for crack-attack, and licensed it under
the GFDL. Could you consider licensing it under the GPL?

Bug#292777: Allows arbitrary command execution from filenames

2005-01-29 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: imms
Version: 2.0.1-3
Severity: grave
File: /usr/bin/analyzer
Tags: security

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I was using analyzer on my music collection, and found this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:Claude Debussy$ analyzer 'Claude Debussy - Prelude La Fille
aux cheveux de lin.ogg';
sox: Can't open input file '/var/www/music/Maxwell/Classical/Claude
Debussy/Claude Debussy - Prelude La': No such file or directory

A little work reveals this fun:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:tmp$ touch '`echo $HOME`'
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:tmp$ analyzer '`echo $HOME`'
sox: Can't open input file '/tmp//home/anthony': No such file or directory

Considering how common playing files with untrusted names is (e.g., xmms
set as browser helper), this is quite a problem.

The problem is the popen on line 53 of analyzer.cc

gaim-dev should depend on pkg-config, libglib2.0-dev and

Older versions of libparted1.6-udeb used to provide libparted1.6-0. Not
providing the package name listed in the .shlibs file breaks dependency

Attached. I have only briefly tested this, so beware. This patch works
by getting rid of the call to popen (and thus the shell). It replaces it
 with pipe, fork, exec, etc.
Quoting is also possible with $''; all one needs to do is loop around
the given string and protect \ and ':

$s=~s/([\\\'])/\\\1/g;

Bug#292792: insecure temporary file security holes (CAN-2005-0017 CAN-2005-0018)

As described in CAN-2005-0017, CAN-2005-0018, and DSA-661-1, f2c uses
temporary files unsafely. A patch can probably be found in the update
from the DSA, this needs to be fixed in unstable.

  True. :-/

Already reverted. As soon as I get out of the firewall at work I

Thanks!

I was thinking a bit more about this, and the gallery-icons sounds
like it might be the right way to go, but I've no clue how to
transition it sanely.

Maybe icons/gallery would be a better method, so that by default you
would suggest people use icons/gallery as the icon location, and then
install a symlink into the icon folder like gallery - .; so it would
work for people with the existing setup, and allow users who want
Apache::Gallery in a subdir of an existing apache setup to send just
icons/gallery to the /usr/share/libapache-gallery-perl/icons
directory.

That is, by default you'd suggest the following in the apache.conf:

Alias /icons/gallery /usr/share/libapache-gallery-perl/icons

The templates would point to icons/gallery/agfolder.png

And /usr/share/lib/apache-gallery-perl/icons would be:

[blahblahicons]
gallery - .
[blahblah icons]

[NB: I haven't tested any of the above... this is just me thinking out
loud...]

Didn't mention I was using a deb packaged Xorg. OK, so it must be this

So, as far as Debian is concerned, we can close this bug. Sorry for the

Bug#271427: another Debian font bug

Strictly Serbian glyphs (used in none of the other Cyrillic languages,

holds for them as well) are the following:

U+402 and U+452 (, , DJE), which you mention to have fixed already
U+408 and U+458 (, , JE), which are exactly the same as Latin J, so
there should be no problems with these
   U+409 and U+459 (, , LJE)
   U+40a and U+45a (, , NJE)
   U+40b and U+45b (, , TSHE)
   U+40f and U+45f (, , DZHE)

In addition to these, there're some variants in Adobe PUA (Private Use
Area), where same characters have slightly different appearance in
  Serbian and Russian:
U+f6c4: small cyrillic (U+433), different only in italic variants
U+f6c5: small cyrillic (U+431), which differs even in regular faces
U+f6c6: small cyrillic (U+434), different only in italic variants
U+f6c7: small cyrillic (U+43f), different only in italic variants
U+f6c8: small cyrillic (U+442), different only in italic variants

(These also have AFII glyph names [eg. U+f6c5 is afii10063], but they
seem to go only by generic Unicode-based names of uniF6C5 and similar
in generated PFB files from Valek.)

I don't imagine that a private use glyph is anything we should be overly
worried about release-wise...

Ah, this list is just what I need. However, there are some glyphs which
are not in your list (see my previous mail to the bug report for
details), but which also seem to be broken. Perhaps some non-Serbian
 Cyrillic glyphs are also broken.

Yes, the (cyrillic ghe with middle hook) glyphs don't seem to be used in
any of the common Cyrillic-using Slavic languages; my guess is that this
glyph's use is limited to one or more of the non-Indo-European languages
that were cyrillicized under Soviet rule.

Daf has just pointed me to
http://www.eki.ee/letter/chardata.cgi?ucode=0494-0495, which confirms
this letter is only used in Abkhaz and Yakut -- rare enough to not be a
release-critical problem for us.

Cheers,

Bug#292806: pmk: Fails to configure on fresh install

2005-01-29 Thread Ben Burton

Package: pmk
Severity: serious
Version: 0.9.0-1

Hi. On a fresh install of pmk (no previous version was installed), the
postinst fails at configure time (see below).

What appears to be happening is that the postinst is called as
postinst configure (no version argument), causing the command
dpkg --compare-versions $2 le 0.8.1-1 to fail because $2 is empty.

I'm not sure if the postinst is broken or if dpkg is failing to pass an
argument that it should; my reading of policy 6.4 is unclear as to what
should happen if no previous version had been configured.

At any rate, this breaks the install and so it would seem to be RC.

Georg,

As Rene says, welcome to sid. The current archive semantics do not ensure
that packages in unstable will always be installable, and not all causes for
uninstallability are grave bugs (or package bugs at all). In this case, the
uninstallability is a self-correcting problem that is waiting only on the
autobuilders to take care of this package.
