I've done this now and your package showed up on the list. I propose to remove it. There are only a few users, it's quite out of date wrt Debian's policy and seems to be upstream-dead. Thanks for raising this. In response: I've updated it wrt policy. It is not so much upstream-dead as upstream-frozen: it is a working piece of software, like CWEB itself, which happily does the task it was designed for and is not obviously in need of further enhancement. I'm unsure whether it's worth keeping in Debian, but it's very low maintenance (only keeping abreast of Debian policy, which I'd overlooked) and has never seen any bugs besides this one. So for these few users, is it necessary to delete it? No, as long as the package is maintained, I don't see a problem. Please close this bug yourself, thanks. Great, thanks. Have done. Configure fails to find the version of gettext in libc and ends up building the internal version instead, and then fails when linking, because it's also in libc. The reason it failed: configure:9855: checking for GNU gettext in libc configure:9879: x86_64-linux-gnu-g++ -o conftest -g -O2 conftest.cc 5 conftest.cc: In function 'int main()': conftest.cc:95: error: cast from 'char*' to 'int' loses precision This seems be caused by the new g++, which is more strict in those things. This seems to fix it: - libtoolize --force --copy - aclocal-1.9 - automake - autoconf Note that you'll have to take care of timestamp skew issues (See autotools-dev documentation.) PS: Your current libtool version seems to be a strange mix of the 1.5.6 debian version and a 1.5.10. I do not understand why you are waiting to upload a fix just because s390 doesn't build. mysql-dfsg 4.0.24-10 is still vulnerable in unstable for all architectures. (actually I got it wrong, it was powerpc not s390, but doesn't matter here) mysql-server (4.0.x) has been superceeded by mysql-server-4.1 which provides an empty transitional package called mysql-server since version 4.1.14 which struggles to get into testing though. Since then the mysql-dfsg source is only used to produce libmysqlclient12 which should be replaced by libmysqlclient14 soon (release-team asked me to hold that transition back so I wait until the latest 4.1 is in testing and then ask again). As the security bugs do only affect the server I did not upload a new 4.0.x version to unstable. As stable do contain 4.0.x I did not add a not found 4.0.24 to the BTS. I know that this is not easily visible so if there is any tag combination that would help you, please let me know. The CAN-2005-2558 is mentioned in the debian/changelog of the unstable uploads for reference. Which it wasn't btw, the latest version of mysql-dfsg in the archive was released this May. The unstable version has had build problems for the last months on some archs (and I was on holyday when the bug was found). Currently I try to get someone from the s390 team to install me the build-deps in a dchroot but [EMAIL PROTECTED] seems to go to /dev/null :-( [EMAIL PROTECTED] points to the party responsible for maintaining the autobuilder for that architecture, it does *not* point to someone who manages user chroots on the porter machine. For that, please contact debian-admin. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#327366: epiphany-browser: Susceptible to mozilla-firefox Host: buffer overflow?
tags 327366 + upstream fixed-upstream patch severity 327366 critical merge 327366 327455 retitle 327366 [CAN-2005-2871] IDN buffer overflow [MFSA 2005-57] thanks Hi, On Fri, Sep 09, 2005, Sam Morris wrote: A buffer overflow vulnerability exists within Firefox version 1.0.6 and all other prior versions which allows for an attacker to remotely execute arbitrary code on an affected host. When reporting bugs against Epiphany or Galeon, please check whether Mozilla, their engine, is affected. In the future, the engine of these browsers might switch from Mozilla to Firefox though. The problem seems to be when a hostname which has all dashes causes the NormalizeIDN call in nsStandardURL::BuildNormalizedSpec to return true, but is sets encHost to an empty string. This is fixed in Mozilla 1.7.12 by disabling IDN and/or installing a patch as explained at: https://addons.mozilla.org/messages/307259.html Bye, -- Loïc Minier [EMAIL PROTECTED]

So I don't see this as a bug, as you don't I agree that this is not a bug in the package, BUT you didn't care to mention this in the bug report. I did check for help there first. So how should I know? showed the relevant part of the output: First of all I didn't report the bug, just in case you didn't notice. All I did was give you the information you asked for in the bug report, namely the kernel version. | /proc/misc: No entry for device-mapper found | Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel? | Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver. | Incompatible libdevmapper 1.01.04 (2005-08-02)(compat) and kernel driver I did not get this message. I only got that one line that was mentioned in the original bug report. If Noel, who reported the bug, or anyone else, whould have run something else to get this message, how about telling them? Finally one last question, how come it worked with the old version. I never loaded the dm module by hand, but still it works with sarge, but not in etch or sid. I would say it might have to do with you removing the init script that used to modprobe dm_mod, don't you think? Sorry, I see that libcrypto++ previously failed to build with an internal compiler error. Did you try to build it with GCC 3.4 for that reason? If so, you can revert that change -- gcc 4.0 has seen a recent update which should fix those ICEs. Are you positive about this, Wouter? I have confirmed that five builds which previously failed now complete successfully (the three upstream PRs I filed plus flac and zlib). Does that mean they'll all succeed? Maybe not; but as this change lets 40 previously-failing tests from the test suite now succeed, I'm pretty sure many of them will now work. libcrypto++ suffered the famous in cp_expr_size, at cp/cp-objcp-common.c:101 ICE that affects arm, m68k and hppa; this is Debian Bug#323133 and upstream PR21123, which doesn't seem at all like fixed? Okay, then I've probably been too optimistic about it in this particular case. -- The amount of time between slipping on the peel and landing on the pavement is precisely one bananosecond
Bug#324371: Has SAM been abandoned?
This bug is the most serious of three against SAM. It renders the package unusable, and seems as though it would probably be fixable just by recompiling. It's been sitting for 35 days. Another bug is important, also seems easy to fix, and even includes a patch. It's been sitting for 321 days! Even the third, minor bug would probably also be fixed just by correcting the other two. Once again, the SONAME of the libraries has increased due to an API transition and you must rebuild your packages. Please briefly review the upstream API changelog at: http://flac.sourceforge.net/changelog.html to check if any of the API changes affect your FLAC-depending package. In most cases, a simple rebuild will be sufficient to transition. Bug#330159: Fix for 1.0-1 build on arm so nvu can enter testing
Package: nvu Version: 1.0-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Justification: no longer builds from source nvu 1.0-1 currently fails to build on arm. Bug #325532 contains the patch required to make the mozilla source compile correctly on arm (as well as a number of other architectures). make sure to get the typo fix a bit further down for the arm patch. Of course the security team would prefer if everything using mozilla could use the mozilla package for those libraries and such so that there are less packages to go fix the same bugs in, but I don't know if that is currently possible with nvu's build setup. If it did use the externally available mozilla then this bug would have been solved long ago since it was fixed in the mozilla upstream a few months ago. After that I found that grep, which is called from my .procmailrc, was hogging the cpu. A look at the procmail.log showed: procmail: Forcing lock on blacklist.lock procmail: Forcing lock on blacklist.lock procmail: Forcing lock on blacklist.lock procmail: Timeout, terminating $FORMAIL -x from: -x sender: | $GREP -iq= Fwf $BLACKLIST And yes, top and ps showed a lot of exactly these grep processes hogging = the CPU. I examined the $BLACKLIST file and found it to be unchanged from it's October 2004 content. It contained exactly one byte. I guess a CR. I removed the file and recreated it with touch and didn't get any problems with grep after that. The old package from testing did not expose that behaviour, so I guess one of these must be the culprit: * 64-egf-speedup.patch, 65-dfa-optional.patch, 66-match_icase.patch, 67-w.patch speed up grep. Bug#329994: base-installer: lilo-installer fails because vmlinuz symlink is not in /
On Sun, Sep 25, 2005 at 12:22:23PM +0200, Frans Pop wrote: Because LILO is the default installer in some cases (/ on XFS IIRC) and is also ofter prefered by users for RAID installs. Also, it is a clear regression from Sarge. My raid install of sarge used grub. Why ever would you want it to use lilo? No clue about XFS. I stopped using it after all the bugs it had in 2.6 and leaking tons of memory. That should be lilo-installer, not lilo, as it is lilo-installer that creates the lilo.conf. However, I would first like to hear what the problem was for AMD64 that prompted the change in the first place and make sure that RAID and LVM installs will not be broken by changing things that way. Neither LVM nor raid (although maybe /boot on LVM would be a problem) should have a problem with grub. Or does grub behave that differently on amd64 that it can't support md raid1 like it does on i386? Len Sorensen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? On Mon, Sep 26, 2005 at 09:23:16AM -0500, John Goerzen wrote: Attached are the patches that Joey (Schulze) approved. Can you (or Joey) comment: did you use a different patch because you believe mine to be insecure, or for a different reason? (That's an important question, since as you know, my patch was uploaded to unstable and will presumably be in the next stable release.) Your patch looks good. The reason that I used the one I did was because it was created a few weeks ago when there was no other patch publically available. Had I seen yours at the time I would have used it instead, rather than going with something different. I certainly don't think you need do anything drastic like use the one I made in another upload. As part of the C++ ABI transition, this library has moved to the libqt3-mt package. Simply recompiling and uploading your package should be enough to fix this; as per this mail [1], you need not bump your Qt, kdelibs or aRts build-dependencies. Beware, though, that that may not be the case for all the involved librares. Also, make sure that you build the package in an up to date and clean sid environment, so that final dependencies are correct. Please do this as soon as possible in order to accelerate the Qt/KDE transition to testing. [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/09/msg0.html Perhaps you find that your package fails to compile with gcc4. If that's the case, there's probably a bug about it in the BTS, and it may include a patch. If not (or if you have doubts about the correctness of the patch), you may be able to find a fix in upstream's CVS, or in the Ubuntu distribution. If your package fails only in arm, m68k, and hppa, see instructions in the above mail. Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay their upload. Thanks for your cooperation, and happy hacking! P.S.: There may be an already reported bug against this package for this very same reason. I've checked for that, and will be merging the bugs soon. The reason for still filing this bug was to have the opportunity of including the small bits of information above. I apologize for the inconvenience. --- Received: (at 327997-close) by bugs.debian.org; 26 Sep 2005 15:18:29 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Sep 26 08:18:29 2005 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from katie by spohr.debian.org with local (Exim 3.36 1 (Debian)) id 1EJuj6-0001sm-00; Mon, 26 Sep 2005 08:17:08 -0700 From: Mike Schacht [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.56 $ Subject: Bug#327997: fixed in knoda 0.7.4-1 Message-Id: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sender: Archive Administrator [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Mon, 26 Sep 2005 08:17:08 -0700 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 Source: knoda Source-Version: 0.7.4-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of knoda, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: knoda_0.7.4-1.diff.gz to pool/main/k/knoda/knoda_0.7.4-1.diff.gz knoda_0.7.4-1.dsc to pool/main/k/knoda/knoda_0.7.4-1.dsc knoda_0.7.4-1_i386.deb to pool/main/k/knoda/knoda_0.7.4-1_i386.deb knoda_0.7.4.orig.tar.gz to

Those patches fixed a bug (and two merged) that had been opened for 2 and a half years. I think it'd be useful if you tried to contact the authors of the patches, and try to fix them instead of removing them? * Removed grep.texi from upstream tarball, 50-rgrep-info.patch and 51-dircategory-info.patch from debian/patches, the GNU Free Documentation License from debian/copyright and debian/fdl.txt, closes: #281647. Still, grep.1 remains, which (a) contains verbatim paragraphs from grep.texi yet (b) comes in the upstream tarball with a license notice. Does this mean that grep.1 is?: - under the GFDL, so should be removed - under the GPL (the general license of the tarball), despite sharing contents with grep.texi - undistributable, because it has no license attached Cheers, -- Adeodato Simó EM: asp16 [ykwim] alu.ua.es | PK: DA6AE621 Man is certainly stark mad; he cannot make a flea, yet he makes gods by the dozens. -- Michel de Montaigne -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#330214: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686: kernel panic when using QUEUE target with iptables
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software Our userspace software uses QUEUE target with iptables. Bug#326767: Failure to use return value from realloc (!)
Am Montag, den 05.09.2005, 16:41 +0100 schrieb Ian Jackson: In http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=12604 a user reported a problem with Ubuntu's version of wget which examination of the Debian source shows is present there too. The bug was introduced in a security patch. wget-1.10 does not have the same problem because it doesn't need the same security patch. The patch I applied to the Ubuntu package is enclosed for your comfort and convenience. thx for your report. Bug#329459: still failing
Thomas Bushnell BSG [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: This emacs21 bug is still around, blocking some other packages too. Since version 21.4a-1 works just fine on powerpc, perhaps the following change in 21.4a-2 might just be the problem? It does rather stand out. * Apply patch supporting the ppc64 architecture. This is a slightly modified patch derived from the Emacs CVS mainline. (closes: #300368) [Jérôme Marant] - debian/patches/arch-ppc64.patch: new file. - debian/00list: updated. Perhaps the ppc64 detection is broken, and so something wrong is happening on ppc32. Perhaps drop this patch and see if that causes the regression to vanish? That seems likely. I should get a chance to test today or tomorrow. -- Rob Browning rlb @defaultvalue.org and @debian.org; previously @cs.utexas.edu GPG starting 2002-11-03 = 14DD 432F AE39 534D B592 F9A0 25C8 D377 8C7E 73A4
