thanks

I have made an upload to the 3-day delayed NMU queue for this package
to fix both the QT and flac transition. You can override this NMU by
uploading a version 0.9.8beta2-4.1.

The patch for the NMU is attached.

Hey Matt!

I was rebuilding this myself on i386, and I was unable to reproduce
this FTBFS while rebuilding to fix #327933... I've reduced its
severity to important and tagged it unreproducible for the time being.

Feel free to change that if you feel differently.

Bug#330277: mozilla-firefox: BadDrawable error when trying to launch

2005-09-27 Thread Carl
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.4-2sarge3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I accidently double-clicked the Firefox titlebar a few too many times
and it suddently crashed. Now, whenever I try to launch it, I get the
following error:

The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 1366 error_code 9 request_code 55 minor_code 0)

Same thing for Thunderbird as well.

Bug#321352: what about suggesting linux-image-2.6.12?

2005-09-27 Thread Jan Kluka

I understand that since people are building their own kernels, udev
cannot strictly depend on a debian kernel package. But it might help if
udev suggested linux-image-2.6.12---not as a long-term solution, but as a
transitional measure to help people notice that the name of the kernel
image package has been changed. This situation is really quite confusing.

Bug#330288: beagle eats gigabytes of memory

2005-09-27 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Package: beagle
Version: 0.0.12-3
Severity: grave

OK, just installed beagle, followed the directions from README.Debian,
started beagled, went for a coffee, and couldn't log in anymore.

It turned out that beagle/mono was happily eating about 1.5GB of memory,
effectively thrashing my system.

Hi all, it seems our 2.6.12-9 upload failed on hppa, the log is at :

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=linux-2.6ver=2.6.12-9arch=hppastamp=1127729724file=logas=raw

And the extract of errors is :

The next patch would create the file drivers/serial/serial_core.c.orig,
which already exists! Assume -R? [n]

  Skipping patch.

So, i guess there is some uncleanliness in the serial_core.c hppa patch, or
maybe someting else. Simon Horman mentioned that part of the hppa patch should
be separated and rejoin the main debian patches instead of keeping such a huge
hppa-specific patch, maybe this would be the best time to do this, or at
least try to get that done for 2.6.13-1.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Package: gpgkeys
Version: 0.3.1-3
Severity: grave
Tags: sid

Hello,

This is a grave bug filed against your package because it depends on
libqt3c102-mt, which no longer exists, thus rendering yor package
uninstallable in unstable. As part of the C++ ABI transition, this
library has moved to the libqt3-mt package.

Simply recompiling and uploading your package should be enough to fix
this; as per this mail [1], you need not bump your Qt, kdelibs or aRts
build-dependencies. Beware, though, that that may not be the case for
all the involved librares. Also, make sure that you build the package
in an up to date and clean sid environment, so that final dependencies
are correct. Please do this as soon as possible in order to accelerate
  the Qt/KDE transition to testing.

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/09/msg0.html

Perhaps you find that your package fails to compile with gcc4. If
that's the case, there's probably a bug about it in the BTS, and it
may include a patch. If not (or if you have doubts about the
correctness of the patch), you may be able to find a fix in upstream's
CVS, or in the Ubuntu distribution. If your package fails only in arm,
m68k, and hppa, see instructions in the above mail.

Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not
be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will
read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay
  their upload.

Thanks for your cooperation, and happy hacking!

P.S.: There may be an already reported bug against this package for
this very same reason. I've checked for that, and will be merging the
bugs soon. The reason for still filing this bug was to have the
opportunity of including the small bits of information above. I
  apologize for the inconvenience.

Please fix the file mentioning at least that it is licensed under GPL.
Please do also s/Upstream Authors/Copyright Holder/.

the mips and mipsel failures are expected as they are it's the only arch.

don't know why, all the infrastructure seems there?
had hoped that oldenburg would sort that out.

adding cc to debian-kernel to investigate the mips/mipsel failure:

The mips/mipsel packages are only in experimental ATM. I hope to
prepare an unstable upload the next days.

Hi Frank, hi Josip, hi all!

For more than 5 weeks no answer. How do we proceed with this? We should
think about something rather soon, as with teTeX 3 going into unstable
texinfo is broken.

Bug#330299: scribus: Installation removes kdebase-bin and many other

There's your poblem - you're pulling scribus from unstable on to a
stable system. This will not work. Unstable is still undergoing quite
a few concurrent library transitions, and packages from unstable will no
longer install on stable. I suggest if you want the latest scribus, get
the source package and rebuild it on stable.

Take care,

Bug#330247: [Pkg-shadow-devel] Bug#330247: same problem with passwd.5

2005-09-27 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Jan Niehusmann ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
I get the same problem with the package passwd, containing passwd.5
 which is also in manpages-de.

So, this file should also be thrown out from manpages-de.

ALL shadow man pages translations should be removed from manpages-de.

The debian/copyright file states that mozilla-firefox is licensed only
under MPL 1.1 which is a non-DFSG compliant license.

Please fix the file mentioning at least that it is licensed under GPL.
 Please do also s/Upstream Authors/Copyright Holder/.

AFAIK, this has been discussed before and since there are still some
parts left that are not yet relicensed, we cannot distribute it under
GPL et al.

Just my 2 cents.

If so (which I didn't know), why is it then left as-it-is (and even not
documented in the BTS)? The current package is non-free. This should be
solved asap, or the consequences should be taken.

package is pretty much useless without freecraft, I removed it,
too. This bug should hold it out from testing until freecraft is
 ready to go in again.

Freecraft version 1:1.18-2.1 is now without RC bugs, and I believe it
should be OK to have in testing.

I play freecraft now and then, I would love the package to be
available in the next stable release.

This bug is still present in tagcolledit 1.2-1:
 Source: tagcolledit
 Section: misc
 Priority: optional
 Maintainer: Enrico Zini [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Build-Depends: cdbs, debhelper ( 4.1), dh-buildinfo, pkg-config,
 libtagcoll-dev (= 1.5), libtagcoll-dev ( 1.6), libgtkmm-2.4-dev
 Standards-Version: 3.6.2.0
There is no libtagcoll-dev package in unstable.

It should be in NEW, hopefully coming in soon.

I don't understand. You're saying that findutils on your system doesn't

Yes, fresh apt-get install this morning:

Then you're installing from a broken mirror. The current version of
findutils in testing and unstable is 4.2.25-1.

Since 4.2.24-1 doesn't support the / syntax (sigh), you'll want to add a

OK, this is uploaded now -- but something still appears broken in the

Justification: no longer builds from source

lam failed to build on a sparc buildd, duplicated on my sparc
pbuilder. It also failed on some other buildds. The syntax of the
-perm option to find has changed, and I think the gsub is only
available in gawk and not mawk, so gawk needs to build a build
dependancy and explicitly used.

Bug#330329: linux-2.6: 2.6.12-10 FTBFS on sparc

2005-09-27 Thread Horms
Package: linux-2.6
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

Seems like 2.6.12-10 fails to build on sparc
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=linux-2.6ver=2.6.12-10arch=sparcstamp=1127830883file=logas=raw

Curiously -6,-7,-8 and -10 all built on sparc
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=linux-2.6ver=2.6.12-10arch=sparcstamp=1127830883file=logas=raw

I say curious, because -10 made ia64 and hppa changes

Does anyone have any ideas?
And if not, is there a box where I can play with building this?

Bug#330299: scribus: Installation removes kdebase-bin and many other

* Marcel [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2005-09-27 14:00:09 +0200]:

 Package: scribus
 Severity: critical

Installation of scribus will remove some important (KDE) packages
with no obvious reson. It's therefore practically uninstallable.
(I use the GNOME desktop environment)

Marcel,

As Stephen already told you it's not feasible to use scribus from unstable on
a stable system. You really shouldn't mix stable and unstable sources at all.
Fortunately for you though you won't have to rebuild the source package the
way he suggested. I maintain an upstream repository of scribus (current stable
1.2.x series) and scribus-cvs (new 1.3.x series) packages built for 5
distributions including Debian/stable. Please read the document at
http://wiki.scribus.net/index.php/Scribus_on_Debian_GNU/Linux or just add

# debian.scribus.net - Primary repository
deb http://debian.scribus.net/debian/ stable main non-free contrib
deb-src http://debian.scribus.net/debian/ stable main non-free contrib

# debian.tagancha.org - Backup repository
deb http://debian.tagancha.org/debian/ stable main non-free contrib
deb-src http://debian.tagancha.org/debian/ stable main non-free contrib

to your /etc/apt/sources.list and enjoy your Scribus experience.

As explained in the previous messages related to this bug report this is not
a scribus bug. The original reporter was mixing stable and unstable sources
and tried installing scribus from unstable on his stable system. My
explanation sent in the previous message to the reporter and to the BTS should
be sufficient in helping him resolve the issue.

Severity: grave

Yeah, that'll be that crazy upstream findutils change that breaks -perm
+foo in the name of POSIX.. According to the thread on debian-devel, the
new syntax is apparently -perm /foo. :P

Lovely! But I've just upgraded, and still can't get find locally
which follows this syntax. Is this change final?

Short version: Use -perm -u+x
Long version: /perm is iirc broken in 4.2.24, and +perm is broken both
in 24 and 25, with 25 matching too little and 24 matching too much.

as of today, i've not found a solution different from patching the
makefiles. i'd like a tool to modify this kind of things in the elf,
probably elfsh is what i'm looking for. something to run after the
  build process. any idea?

In general you can't do this unless you're replacing it with a shorter
soname. I highly recommend fixing the build system instead.

the build system is automake+libtool. fixing it means telling to libtool
which soname is to be used. ah.. libtool... i hate clever software..

the only way i know to achieve this is to modify the lib_LTLIBRARIES
variable and releated. am i missing anything?

You still fail to give reasons why MPL is non-free. I don't see that.

Yes, its not gpl-compatible, but again, that is not the same as non-free.

Bug#330295: copyright file states non-free

Alexander Sack wrote:

Yes, its not gpl-compatible, but again, that is not the same as non-free.

debian-legal has some problems with the license, it is not clearly
stated that it is 100% DFSG-compliant, therefore, if it is not 100% it
remains non-free (to my understanding; affects joice-of-venue and patent
clause mainly).

As least to my knowledge, there were no 'official' statement about
results of the investigations MJR did. So there is no (not yet?) final
decision.

OK, I confirmed this. You were right: MPL is non-free. Anyway, because
of mozillas attitude to migrate their whole code-base to become
triple-licensed, we have an exception of the rule here.

So, this bug is wontfix for IMHO but I leave tagging to the maintainer.

Bug#330373: dvbtune: creates /dvb

Package: dvbtune
Version: 0.5-4
Severity: serious

From the postinst:

if [ -e /sbin/MAKEDEV ]

/sbin/MAKEDEV dvb

MAKEDEV *must* be run from within /dev (i.e., it creates files in the
current working directory). Because the postinst doesn't do so, it
inadvertently creates /dvb and device files in there, and thus violates
policy 9.1.1 (hence the severity).

The ppc64 detection is not broken. It has been tested by the
 ppc64 porters.

It sounded to me like Thomas was just suggesting that the ppc64 patch
might be causing configure to accidentally return a false positive on
ppc32 machines, not that it was doing anything wrong on ppc64
machines, or is that how you read him too?

OK.

In any case, it seems like trying to build on a ppc32 host with the
ppc64 patch temporarily omitted will at least let us know if that
 alleviates the segfault.

I'll take care of this. I have the necessary hardware for testing.

Cheers,

Oh, that's great. I was attempting it on voltaire, but it doesn't
have the build deps installed, and so I had to ask debian-admin to add
them. However, if you can handle the testing, then we won't have to
wait on them to respond.
