Bug#435663: This bug is fixed in a newer libcompress-zlib-perl

2007-08-08 Thread Peter Baumann
Package: debmirror
Version: 20070123

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Sorry. I didn't get the mails from the other people providing additional
information to this bug. As debuged this with Damyan Ivanov (see #435656)
and the buggy version of libcompress-zlib-perl is no longer available in
unstable, I closed this bug.

But after thinking it through, it would still make sense to have the
conflict or have debmirror depend on libcompress-zlib-perl-2.0005-2

Dear realtimebattle maintainer,

Your package had been recently binNMUed on hppa architecture.

As your package isn't binNMU safe, it is uninstallable on hppa. The
arch:any package looks depends on an arch:all package with a version
that doesn't exist.

More information can be found at http://wiki.debian.org/binNMU.

Please contact me if you have questions about this.

When updating emacs-snapshot-gtk to 20070122-1 the compilation fails
when the auctex package is compiled.

/tmp/emacs-snapshot. output:

install/auctex: Setting up for emacs-snapshot... emacs-install:
/usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/auctex emacs-snapshot emacs21
failed at /usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-install line 28, TSORT line

I deinstalled auctex and reinstalled emacs-snapshot-gtk and the
compilation of emacs-snapshot-gtk worked without problems.

Then I installed auctex again and the installation ended up with:

install/auctex: Setting up for emacs-snapshot... emacs-package-install:
/usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/auctex emacs-snapshot
emacs-snapshot emacs21 failed at

Hi!

This bug has been filed on multiple packages, and general discussions
are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in
the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages.

It seems this source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

imap-2002e/docs/rfc/rfc3502.txt
imap-2002e/docs/rfc/rfc2971.txt

imap-2002e/docs/rfc/rfc3503.txt
imap-2002e/docs/rfc/rfc3516.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
   license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
   the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it.

3. Move the package to non-free.

I went over many packages looking for names of likely non-free files,
and there may be false positives. If this is the case for your
package, I'm sorry for the noise. I'll modify the scripts to take
into account false positives when I learn of them, and publish the
list of exceptions under Known exceptions at
http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments.

Thanks,
Simon

 The files are still present as far as I can tell. Or am I looking at
 the wrong version or something? This is from current unstable:

Yes, I believe you looked in the wrong place: It was closed in
*experimental*, and a fixed package has not yet appeared in unstable.

If I understand the BTS correctly, you did right with your found
statement above, but the reopen statement was wrong: Notice the last
paragraph on reopen here: http://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control

(reopen is an old command - I imagine in modern times it unflags all
closed flags, versioned or not)

Kind regards,

Package: auctex

Severity: normal

When updating emacs-snapshot-gtk to 20070122-1 the compilation fails
when the auctex package is compiled.

/tmp/emacs-snapshot. output:

I deinstalled auctex and reinstalled emacs-snapshot-gtk and the
compilation of emacs-snapshot-gtk worked without problems.

Then I installed auctex again and the installation ended up with:

Bug#434361: I think this is the problem.

2007-08-08 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello:

  After some nice chat at #debian I think I understood the problem. sysprof
requires libbfd, but it's very tightly tied to the version of it, so it
requires to compile against exactly yhe same version of libbfd that is
everytime on the Debian archive.

libbfd belongs to the binutils package, so everytime binutils is changed,
sysprof should be rebuilt and uploaded again.

Meanwhile you could do the following in order to get the package build
yourself(against your actual binutils):

apt-get source sysprof
cd sysprof-version
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot

Notes: to do this you need fakeroot, binutils-dev and libglade2-dev amongst
others. You may look for info on how to build a package yourself.

 dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot

 Notes: to do this you need fakeroot, binutils-dev and libglade2-dev amongst
 others. You may look for info on how to build a package yourself.

Yes, I have built it already since then and I was able used it to solve
the problem I was working on for another package ;-)

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about Debian's packaging guidelines
to suggest how to avoid this problem in the future or, better yet, how
to cause this package to be rebuilt every time libbfd's soname changes.

Gracias por tu ayuda,

Armando, you seem to use version of gaim currently in testing
(beta5-11). Your apt setup is currently using stable only
(maybe you changed that recently).
Leaving system with some packages from newer releases that now won't be
updated anymore because of only stable listed in apt config can cause
bugs hard to track.
I would suggest to remove gaim packages currently installed and try to
install stable version back (beta5-10).

The mdadm maintainer needs to integrate in his package support for

Bug#436681: backuppc: Web interface password publicly visible

2007-08-08 Thread Frans Pop
Package: backuppc
Version: 2.1.2-6
Severity: critical
Tags: security

The default password generated at installation time is publically
visible to any user with local access to the system on which backuppc is
installed as it is included in the debconf database [1] as a variable
for the backuppc/configuration-note template.

I've decided on severity critical for this issue as it potentially allows
random users to start backup jobs for other systems and possibly interfere
with backuped data.

I'd suggest clearing this variable immediately after displaying the note.

Bug#436651: gaim: Crashes when clicking on URL in chat window

2007-08-08 Thread Ari Pollak
severity 436651 important
thanks

I can't support a mixed-distribution system like this.
libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.12-3 isn't even in any current Debian
distribution anymore. That being said, please do a full upgrade to
testing or unstable and try again. If it still crashes, please unload
any plugins you have, install the gaim-dbg package, and get a backtrace
as described here:
http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace

Thanks,
Ari

Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Hi

The following CVE[0] has be issued against zziplib.
The text says:

Upgrade of traceroute breaks usage of Debian alternatives for

Consequently, libjvm.so can't be loaded (I have
/usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.{so,a}.3
on my lenny system, supplied by package libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2).
Since ../libawt.so and ../libjava.so depend on libjvm.so, they also
can't be loaded. This severely limits the utility of this JRE.

The java-gcj-compat package doesn't mention any dependency on any
libstdc++ variant. It needs to Depend on the variant it's built with
- and be built with a modern enough version that the dependency can be
met !

I really want to be able to list java-gcj-compat among the JREs that
Opera Suggests:, but this currently amounts to a fatal bug with it ...

Bug#436352: gnugk - FTBFS: undefined reference to `H235_SIGNEDH235_EncodedGeneralToken::PrintOn(std::basic_ostreamchar, std::char_traitschar ) const'

2007-08-08 Thread Jan Willamowius
Hi,

I noticed in the build log that the 'make clean' failed.

Did you try to do a 'make clean' after the './configure' ?

Regards,
Jan

Bug#436732: Segfaults when config file points to non-existant files

2007-08-08 Thread Simon Huggins
Package: ufraw
Severity: grave
Version: 0.11-2

I set up ufraw with a few preferred directories and so on. Then I ran
out of space on /home/huggie and moved things elsewhere.

ufraw started segfaulting when trying to get the colour profile I'd
defined.

i.e. if I have:
InputProfile Current='yes'Nkx_D80_5_1691_06_000_434
File/home/huggie/Photos/Nkx_D80_5_1691_06_000_434.icm/File
ProductNameNikon D80 for NEF Mode5 v2.0.0.3000/ProductName
/InputProfile
and then that file doesn't exist I get:
open(/home/huggie/Photos/Nkx_D80_5_1691_06_000_434.icm, O_RDONLY) = -1
ENOENT (No such file or directory)
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---
+++ killed by SIGSEGV +++
Process 1926 detached

If I change the .ufrawrc to point to /data/Photos/blah where the file
now is it all works.

Ideally ufraw should error nicely in this case.

Simon.

Bug#421503: telnetd-ssl resets ssl settings on upgrade

2007-08-08 Thread Adeodato Simó
* Ian Beckwith [Mon, 06 Aug 2007 19:22:07 +0100]:

 dget http://nessie.mcc.ac.uk/~ianb/debian/netkit-telnet-ssl_0.17.24+0.1-18.dsc

Hello Ian,

I've reviewd the package. Everything looks fine, but there's one thing I
don't understand (but I'm not very well versed on update-inetd, so that's
the likely cause): why you only keep the arguments if the telnet inetd.conf
line was *disabled*?:

  args=`grep '^#off#.*/usr/sbin/in.telnetd' etc.
^^^

Btw, instead of sed 's/.*\/usr\/sbin\/in.telnetd\(.*\)/\1/'`, you can
do sed 's#.*/usr/sbin/in.telnetd...#\1#', or eny other character instead
of #, like , or |.

Cheers,

Bug#435521: closed by Mark Purcell [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Re: Asterisk SIP DOS Vulnerability)

2007-08-08 Thread Mark Purcell
On Wed, 8 Aug 2007, Lionel Elie Mamane wrote:

Yes I wasn't suggesting that we don't fix it in stable, but rather that a
fix was available and had been uploaded to Debian (unstable). The BTS
supports version tracking and even though the bug maybe closed, these
security issues are still listed as open for asterisk in etch.

Of course if we have a way of testing the fix in unstable is is valid
that's even better.

Of course fixing the plethora of security fixes against asterisk 1.2 is an
issue and a fair amount of work. Whilst digium continues to provide supported
releases of 1.2.x with bug fixes, by rights we should be only taking
the diff's and applying them to debian stable via the debian security team,
which
is a job in itself.

We are maintaining uptodate asterisk 1.2 packages built against stable (etch)
via
http://buildserver.net, but that is using the latest asterisk 1.2 upstream
release and isn't a suitable security fix for upload to stable. (but would be a
lot
less work and would get the fixes into stable v.quickly)

security team. This is an issue, we (pkg-voip) are aware we are well behind the
curve on this, but were wondering if you have any ideas on a way to better
manage?

 Hi

 The following CVE[0] has be issued against zziplib.

  This seems to be a low-risk, from the one page I found describing
 it:

http://www.securitylab.ru/forum/read.php?FID=21TID=40858MID=326187#message326187

  Basically zzcat $longfilename crashes. I wouldn't have thought
 this would require a DSA.

Bug#436177: I think the problem is in gcj

2007-08-08 Thread Manolo Díaz

Hi all,

I've experienced a similar problem trying to launch freemind

from top command:

23498 yo16   0 3158m 1.6g 4004 S4 83.3   0:26.79 java

1.6GB is too much even for the jvm. After waiting for several minutes freemind
isn't launched and I have to kill the process. The same occurs if I try to
launch eclipse.

In my system /usr/bin/java is provided by the package gij-4.1
(version 4.1.1-20).

Best Regards.

Package: traceroute

Upgrade of traceroute breaks usage of Debian alternatives for

You need to conflict with both of them.

Since mail-notification is not compiled with debug info I do not have a
very inetersing trace.

Rebuilding the package solves the problem (for me) so it is not possible
for me to produce a crash backtrace with debug.

Bug#434329: Compiling from source does not fix the crash

2007-08-08 Thread Ludovic Rousseau

 I tried the comment from that suggested that building from source
 would fix the problem. I tried:

 sudo apt-build install mail-notification

 The crash still occurs.

That is good news. I also tried to recompile but can't reproduce the
crash with the recompiled version. So it is not possible for me to
debug.

can you:
- rebuild from source
- execute the rebuilt version (not stripped) inside gdb

You should do something like:
$ apt-get source mail-notification
$ cd mail-notification-4.1.dfsg.1
$ debuild
$ cd src
$ gdb mail-notification
(gdb) run
wait for the crash
(gdb) backtrace

And send the logs to the bug address.

Thanks

Hi,

qemuctl needs parameters to work, try man qemuctl to see some examples
or try qemu-launcher that can control qemuctl in a easy form.

Bug#436753: vlc: VLC switches video card into invalid mode

2007-08-08 Thread Desktop
Package: vlc

Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

When playing WMV files in VLC, it sometimes switches the video card into an
invalid mode. This could destroy the screen, luckily I have a liquid
crystal that just switches off... Requires (blind) reboot to recover.

 During boot, there is a flood of amixer syntax errors. The sound card
 doesn't work (it used to, in unstable about half a year ago).

   Basically zzcat $longfilename crashes. I wouldn't have thought
  this would require a DSA.
Yes you are right, although I understood the CVE text in a different way. I
will downgrade the bug to normal.
Thanks for pointing it out.

Bug#436159: Serious indexing problems in fsck_hfs

2007-08-08 Thread Rogério Theodoro de Brito

Dear Darwin Develpers,

I am a Debian user and prospective Debian Developer that has packaged
the disk utilities of Darwin for Debian and I noticed a pretty
serious problem when compiling the fsck_hfs utility under many 64 bit
platforms.

The bug manifests itself as a segmentation fault when running such
fsck on, for example, a disk image created by newfs_hfs.

I traced the problem in a 64 bit platform to be a quite silly problem
that is present in MacOS X 10.4 from releases 10.4.5 up to 10.5.9,
which is the last available version on the Open Source site that
Apple maintains (unfortunately, it doesn't have the sources for
10.4.10, which is quite needed here).

The problem I'm referring to is in the fsck_hfs.tproj/dfalib/
hfs_endian.c file and it has the following snippet (sorry for the
line-wrapping, but I don't know how to avoid that with Mail.app,
which is what I am using right now):

(Around line 519):
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
for (i = 0; i  srcDesc-numRecords; i++) {
	/* Point to the start of the record we're currently
checking. */
srcKey = (HFSPlusCatalogKey *)((char *)src-buffer +
srcOffs[i]);

/*
 * Point to start of next (larger offset) record. We'll
use this
 * to be sure the current record doesn't overflow into
the next

 * record.
 */
nextRecord = (char *)src-buffer + srcOffs[i-1];

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The code above was taken from the package diskdev_cmds-332.22.tar.gz,
which is the last one available for download at the Apple site.

Please, notice that when i = 0, the last line quoted has srcOffs
[i-1], which tries to access the position of index -1, which is
obviously an error as it is not protected by an if or something similar.

Unfortunately, almost the same piece of code is repeated quite often
in such file (I counted the repetition of this line at least 6 times
in that file, which is, obviously, really not desired). I believe
that some of the repetitions could be addressed with a cleanup.

Oh, BTW, if I am not mistaken, the code in this module (not limited
to this file) also has some unfortunate assumptions of the size of a
pointer being the same of an unsigned integer, something which is
false in some (or maybe all) 64-bit architectures.

I'm carbon copying the Gentoo Developer of the same package, the bug
sumitter to the Debian Bugtracking System, some friends of mine and
another kind Debian Developer as well as the security contact that I
could find on the page http://www.apple.com/support/security/.

Just a small point here regarding the Apple mailing lists, I tried up
to now 4 times to subscribe to Apple mailing lists without success to
inform you of such serious problems. I hope that this time this e-
mail won't bounce back to me (which would be a sad state of affairs,
since I am trying to help with your products and this is the very
soul of Free Software).

If I don't hear back or if this mail bounces, I am afraid that I will
be quite sad with the position that Apple has chosen to adopt. After
all, all I am trying to do is to point out grave problems that should
be addressed quite soon, as the users relying on fsck_hfs to repair
their possibly damaged fileystems may be in a high danger.

Regards, Prof. Rogério Brito.
