I have read http://wiki.debian.org/iwlwifi last week, but that didn't help at all. After reading your suggestion, I've upgrade to debian sid with kernel 2.6.25-2-686. However, 'iwlist wlan0 scan' still shows: no scan result. Network manager still got no AP. Upgrading to the latest kernel didn't help much. Besides, my debian lenny system was built from clean install, not upgraded from etch. I haven't use the old ipw3945 on this newly installed system. Furthermore, I have Windows Vista on this laptop, too. The card works perfectly and can get connected very fast under Vista. So, apparantly it's not a hardware problem. 2008/5/16 Debian Bug Tracking System [EMAIL PROTECTED]: This is an automatic notification regarding your Bug report which was filed against the linux-image-2.6.24-1-686 package: #481436: linux-image-2.6.24-1-686: Unable to use wireless with Intel iwl3945 module. Bug#481460: xcircuit FTBFS when built with -rsudo
Package: xcircuit Version: 3.6.130.dfsg-1 Severity: serious Xcircuit fails to build with -rsudo (like the autobuilders for alpha, mips and mipsel do). This is caused by the debian/rules clean target which touches config.status, which leads to wrong permissions for the file. Bug#481469: dovecot-common: mail_extra_groups deprecation not fixed very helpfully for me and probably most users
Package: dovecot-common Version: 1.0.rc15-2etch4 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I see that the upgrade which deprecates mail_extra_groups is regarded as having been fixed. However, I don't think the fix is optimal for most of us. I opted to use my old config file when upgrading as there was no clear warning not to do this, then a coincidental upgrade more recently forced a restart of dovecot which ran automatically so I didn't see the error message. Because it had been an ssh related upgrade it was a bit slow to realise it was dovecot that was refusing to run, not an access problem. However, when I did realise the console message dovecot gives just says that mail_extra_groups is deprecated which I usually take to mean not advised but will still run. It looked from that message as if dovecot was loading so it was only when I looked in the dovecot log that I saw it was being killed by interrupt 15 (still not a very clear message). When I looked in my dovecot.conf I of course still saw the old mail_extra_groups which seemed confusing but grepping the documentation in both dovecot-pop3d and dovecot-common didn't find anything about mail_extra_groups (perhaps I should have zgrep'ed, hm, OK, that gets me more but not a clear description of what to do if you chose to use your old conf file). Anyway, I've changed to mail_access_groups in my dovecot.conf and everything is fine now. However, I do recommend that the messages are changed to avoid relative lusers such as myself running into this. I would also recommend back propagating the changes as searchgin for mail_extra_ on wiki.dovecot.org found nothing. Many thanks for your work on this and sorry to cause work. Bug#479668: debian : tuxguitar : wrapper script
Hi, Ok, i'm not sure why it happen under your JVM version (Sun 1.6.0_06). But i know it happen with some GNU/Classpath JVM based. Some JVMs can't take a folder as a resource stream: Plugins on tuxguitar is an example of that tuxguitar needs the plugins/ resource, what is a folder at /usr/share/tuxguitar/ ( on classpath ) but if JVM don't found the resource, so tuxguitar can't iterate the files in it. You told the skin is fine. But i'm sure, if you go to Tools - Settings : Skin you'll not found any skin available at the list. and Tools - Settings : Language also may be empty. To fix that, i added the JVM property tuxguitar.share.path, to allow specify the installation share path. That property must be setted on the launcher script (by the way will be needed to run under other JVMs). Cheers Julian. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#481447: The initramfs doesn't care
Hi Christian, Multipath uses (regardeless of it's an initramfs or not) /lib/udev/scsi_id _except_ if you have specified an alternate path in /etc/multipath.conf (which also ends up in the initramfs). Could you check if this is the case on your system? I just double checked the sources and there really isn't any reference to /sbin/scsi_id anymore. Bug#481460: xcircuit FTBFS when built with -rsudo
Hola Thiemo Seufer! Xcircuit fails to build with -rsudo (like the autobuilders for alpha, mips and mipsel do). This is caused by the debian/rules clean target which touches config.status, which leads to wrong permissions for the file. Yes, I was aware, and I even have the fixed package, I'll be uploading it this weekend. I fail to understand why all this touch magic is done in the first place, it looks like an attempt to avoid autotools despite patching .in/.am files. Yes, that's why. The modification made in the .in/.am files is not worth re-running all the autotools files, because it only deletes the instructions regarding the directory removed due to dfsg issues. Thanks for your work, it is good to see a maintainer being very responsive and pationate about it. Surely I do - isn't this the duty of a maintainer? We assure the community that there will be no regressions in the progress made for freedom in the kernel distributed by Debian relative to the Sarge release in Etch and : 4. ... as long as we are legally allowed to do so, and the firmware is distributed upstream under a license that complies with the DFSG. Both of these restrictions are not respected by the current linux-2.6 source tarball, and the tg3 firmware driver in particular. The tg3 firmware was stripped from the sarge kernel, it is a non-free but redistributable binary blob, and this is thus a regression with regard to the sarge release. Secondly, the tg3 firmware licence is : * Firmware is: * Derived from proprietary unpublished source code, * Copyright (C) 2000-2003 Broadcom Corporation. * * Permission is hereby granted for the distribution of this firmware * data in hexadecimal or equivalent format, provided this copyright * notice is accompanying it. which would never pass the DFSG in any way. The licence clearly state it is a binary derived from unpublished source code, and neither the source code is available, nor is there any right of modification involved in it. It is astounding how, Steve Langasek as the lead RM, specifically asked for a GR on the subject in order to know how to act as RM, and then, even before the vote finished, claimed he would not respect it. Bug#481499: soci FTBFS on mips
Package: soci Version: 2.2.0-3 Severity: serious Tags: patch Soci fails to build on mips, mipsel, armel and presumably arm because it tries to use std::snprintf. This is, however, a function in the global namespace, and only retained as an alias in std:: for backward compatibility purposes on other architectures. The appended patch fixes this (and was tested on mips). Bug#481186: CVE-2008-2149: buffer overflows
Hi Andreas, * Andreas Tille [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008-05-16 15:53]: On Fri, 16 May 2008, Nico Golde wrote: - sprintf(tmpbuf, wn: invalid search option: %s\n, av[j]); + /* Fix CVE-2008-2149: buffer overflows Andreas Tille [EMAIL PROTECTED] */ + sprintf(tmpbuf, wn: invalid search option: %.200s\n, av[j]); Please use snprintf(tmpbuf, sizeof(tmpbuf), ... instead of this. I just followed https://buildsecurityin.us-cert.gov/daisy/bsi-rules/home/g1/840.html and unfortuantely it is to late now because the package just hit unstable. Feel free to NMU if there are any reasons to do so. Just for the sake of interest: What is the essential difference between the patch above and snprintf()? I first thought the buffer you write into is also 200 bytes big then the 0 byte sprintf writes at the end would cause an off-by-one. I just saw that its 256 bytes big so this should be no problem. However I still prefer clean fixes and snprintf is the clean fix for boundary problems of sprintf. Anyway, nothing that needs to be fixed with an additional upload. However I still prefer clean fixes and snprintf is the clean fix for boundary problems of sprintf. Fully ACK. Anyway, nothing that needs to be fixed with an additional upload. OK. Network manager still got no AP. you have to make sure the link is up aka ip link set wlan0 up Of course I did it, for several times. Upgrading to the latest kernel slightly improved the problem. It's still hard to get connected, but better than before. also network-manager is known buggy, nothing we can do there.. So, apparantly it's not a hardware problem. yeah i assume so, also your report features a tainted module. you are killing kittens. -- maks

I do not like such threats when I havn't done anything wrong (according to my knowledge). I was acting exactly as you requested. IMHO you said that reopening should be done only by maintainer or by someone with info that bug had not been dealt with. I'm not a maintainer, but I did have info that bug had not been dealt with, so I reopened the bug with that info. I fail to see any reason to threaten me with blacklisting. IMHO it is you who should've been threatened with blacklisting if anyone, since you have insisted on closing bugs which clearly havn't been fixed. If I did something wrong, IMHO the right response would've been to point out my mistake to me, and not to threaten with blacklisting without giving any reason for it. it is up to the maintainer to decide if that is closed or not. If maintainer decides that bug must not be reopened anymore, that should be mentioned in the bug-report. -- Markus Laire -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. This is CVE-2008-1880[1] [1] http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-1880 The init.d script used by Debian packages exports ISC_PASSWORD into the environment before starting fbguard. fbguard itself spawns fbserver process without cleaning environment. fbserver uses ISC_PASSWORD from the environment when remote connection does not supply a password. This makes it possible to connect remotely as SYSDBA user without giving a password. That last part is already fixed in upstream CVS HEAD, but backporting the change is reported to be non-trivial. So the way to close the hole is to stop exporting ISC_PASSWORD in the init.d script. That variable is used only for stopping the server and there is another way to achieve this -- via start-stop-daemon and a PID file. I am working on the implementation. -- dam ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: firebird2.0 Source-Version: 2.0.3.12981.ds1-14 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of firebird2.0, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: firebird2.0-classic_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/firebird2.0-classic_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb firebird2.0-common_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/firebird2.0-common_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb firebird2.0-dev_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_all.deb to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/firebird2.0-dev_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_all.deb firebird2.0-doc_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_all.deb to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/firebird2.0-doc_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_all.deb firebird2.0-examples_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_all.deb to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/firebird2.0-examples_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_all.deb firebird2.0-server-common_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/firebird2.0-server-common_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb firebird2.0-super_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/firebird2.0-super_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb firebird2.0_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14.diff.gz to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/firebird2.0_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14.diff.gz firebird2.0_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14.dsc to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/firebird2.0_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14.dsc libfbclient2_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/libfbclient2_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb libfbembed2_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb to pool/main/f/firebird2.0/libfbembed2_2.0.3.12981.ds1-14_i386.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#481396: lifelines: fails to show person- fatal error programm crashes
Felipe Augusto van de Wiel (faw) [EMAIL PROTECTED] schrieb am 15.05.2008, 18:59 Uhr: Hi Felipe, thanks for your very quick reply! Meanwhile I made some more tests (see below) There is a new 3.0.62 version of lifelines that fixes encoding conversion for GEDCOM, pedigree, and GEDCOM text modes. Would it be possible that your GEDCOM files falls under this problem? That migt be possible. I used to have lifeline 3.0.50-2 (etch) and locale was set to ISO-8859-15 and the datebase was also ISO-8859-15. I have plans to upload the new lifelines in the next days, it should happened months ago, but unfortunately real life got me. oh I understand :-)... anyway if the new version is ok, we should not waste time with this one... The (german) output of the log-file says: | Verhängnisvoller Fehler: 2008-05-15-19:00:45Z |in Datei keytonod.c, Zeile 1210 |Aktuelle Datenbank: /home/ulrich/LifeLines/Databases/test means 'fatal error in file keytonod.c, line 1210 current database: /home/ulrich/LifeLines/Databases/test * Does it works with other GEDCOMfiles? * Can you tell me the steps to reproduce this error? It would be great if you can list it like: 1) Open lifelines using $ llines 2) Create a database Path: /tmp/foo-database-gedcom * Can you provide the GEDCOM file that you used? what I did (and it can be reproduced by 100%): 1) simply copy the database from lifelines 3.0.50-2 produced the crash (at this point I was not so surprised as I knew the difference in encoding) 2) made an .ged export from my 3.0.50.-2 database, converted the .ged file to UTF-8, opened a new blank database (UTF-8) and read the .ged file. Unfortunately the result was exactly the same: I could open the database by 'llines test', hit 'b', choosed '1! -- crash. 3) created a brand new database, - enter first person -ok - enter second person -ok - try to make second person spouse of first person - 'failure in memory access' (program stops) The .ged export of this database is: 0 HEAD 1 SOUR LIFELINES 3.0.61 1 DEST ANY 1 DATE 16 MAY 2008 2 TIME 21:21 1 SUBM 1 GEDC 2 VERS 5.5 2 FORM LINEAGE-LINKED 1 CHAR UTF-8 0 @I1@ INDI 1 NAME first /person/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 01 Jan 1960 2 PLAC Berlin 0 @I2@ INDI 1 NAME second /person/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 02 Jan 1970 2 PLAC Munich 0 TRLR 4) as it was obviously not possible to marry the two persons ;-) in lifelines, I did it manually by editing the .ged file as follows: 0 HEAD 1 SOUR LIFELINES 3.0.61 1 DEST ANY 1 DATE 16 MAY 2008 2 TIME 21:21 1 SUBM 1 GEDC 2 VERS 5.5 2 FORM LINEAGE-LINKED 1 CHAR UTF-8 0 @F1@ FAM 1 HUSB @I1@ 1 WIFE @I2@ 1 MARR 2 DATE 01 Apr 2000 2 PLAC Rome 0 @I1@ INDI 1 NAME first /person/ 1 SEX M 1 BIRT 2 DATE 01 Jan 1960 2 PLAC Berlin 1 FAMS @F1@ 0 @I2@ INDI 1 NAME second /person/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 02 Jan 1970 2 PLAC Munich 1 FAMS @F1@ 0 TRLR means I just added the @F1@ FAM lines and the FAMS marker. So finally I created my third database 'test2' and by 'u' -- 'r' I read this gedcom file. Reading is ok but moving to one person by 'b' -- '1' crashes the programm as described. That was a lot of text, but at the end, the problem is 3) it is not possible to marry the persons and 4) it not possible to show one person. BTW: I also tried all this with a ISO-8859-1 encoded database (by hitting 'u' -- 'o' and typing codeset=ISO-8859-1 (without the quotation marks :-)), but it was all the same. Hope that helps a little bit. Ulrich -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[Sven Joachim] Not at all, good catch. I just didn't know it even has a log file. How about compiling with -DUSE_SYSLOG? I must admit, I would prefer xfs logging to syslog. When debugging the segfault in #148650, the first place I looked was /var/log/syslog. When Nothing showed up there, I started searching for the logs and discovered /var/log/xfs.log. So I would be less surprised if it used syslog. :) Happy hacking, -- Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#473085: old version of guile-1.8-dev used in 1.9.11-1 failure
Bastian, would it be possible to retest g-wrap 1.9.11-1 using the current version of guile-1.8-dev (1.8.5+1-1) on s390? #466778 (which was claimed as the source of the original FTBFS) was fixed in that version but your build failure that requested the reopening of this bug shows: Setting up guile-1.8-dev (1.8.4+1-2) ... If the s390 build works with guile-1.8-dev (1.8.5+1-1), maybe a few rebuilds can be attempted for g-wrap with the latest version of guile-1.8-dev (but the Build-Depends of g-wrap should still be updated to require the fixed version of guile-1.8-dev anyway so this bug can then be retitled and lowered in severity). Alternatively, g-wrap with guile-1.8-dev (1.8.5+1-1) may simply repeat #475673 on s390. (I neither need nor use g-wrap anymore, but as Andreas has not responded, I'm just seeing if the RC bug count can be tweaked by either lowering the severity of this bug or merging it with #475673 if the updated guile-1.8-dev gives the same test failure as on sparc.) -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Btw, as for this BTS ping-pong game, Max asked that you file separate bugs instead of reopening this one. This doesn't sound like an unreasonable request, so why not just do that? It's probably helpful to the maintainers to have a separate bug for each violation. I can imagine that working with one [1] huge report while trying to actually fix stuff can be a PITA. [1] well, actually a few merged reports, but it amounts to the same. -- Robert Millan GPLv2 I know my rights; I want my phone call! DRM What use is a phone call… if you are unable to speak? Thanks, this solves the problem. I think this is still a bug and it was introduced with 6.0pre30-2. (I can't remember changing my locale settings lately, so it worked with the german locale with 6.0pre30-1.) Chriss signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil
