Bug#591298: Bug #591298: Banshee regression hopefully fixed in 3.7.2-1
Hi Ondřej, On 27/08/10 08:31, Ondřej Surý wrote: can you try 3.7.2-1? I tried changing Ian's test case to use BY RANDOM(); and it works fine for me. No improvement with 3.7.2-1, sorry. Here's the sluggish query, from Banshee's --debug-sql output: [1 Debug 09:30:09.750] Querying model for track to play in album:Next mode [1 Warn 09:30:09.753] HyenaSqliteConnection command issued from the main thread [2 Debug 09:30:31.893] Executed in 22140ms SELECT CoreAlbums.AlbumID, CoreAlbums.Title, MAX(CoreTracks.LastPlayedStamp) as LastPlayed, MAX(CoreTracks.LastSkippedStamp) as LastSkipped FROM CoreTracks, CoreAlbums, CoreCache WHERE CoreCache.ItemId = CoreTracks.TrackID AND CoreCache.ModelID = 43 AND CoreTracks.AlbumID = CoreAlbums.AlbumID AND CoreTracks.LastStreamError = 0 AND CoreTracks.PrimarySourceID = 1 GROUP BY CoreTracks.AlbumID HAVING (LastPlayed 1282901369 OR LastPlayed IS NULL) AND (LastSkipped 1282901369 OR LastSkipped IS NULL) ORDER BY RANDOM() LIMIT 1 CoreCache is a temporary, in-memory table. From the debug log I've recreated the statements used to create and fill it, and have two other files containing a single query each: one exactly as above, and another with all references to CoreCache removed. With the CoreCache parts of the query removed, it's very snappy: % time sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql banshee-next-shuffle-by-album-no-core-cache.sql 4478|Heartland|1282844295|1277228957 sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql0.22s user 0.04s system 97% cpu 0.267 total But in its original form, it's reliably a hundred times slower, taking over 22s: % time sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql banshee-next-shuffle-by-album.sql 1063|Stars On The Wall|1282654498|1272661309 sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql22.28s user 0.07s system 99% cpu 22.377 total It's equally slow if I make CoreCache a regular table. I've checked Banshee's Git history briefly, and can't find any changes relating to CoreCache that could have caused this. I wondered if some indexes have been binned or something. But, if I downgrade to libsqlite3-0 3.6.23.1-4 the slower query is miraculously fast again: % time sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql banshee-next-shuffle-by-album.sql 550|Happy Songs for Happy People|1280848000|1280848242 sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql0.27s user 0.03s system 99% cpu 0.302 total I've uploaded my Banshee database, plus the three SQL scripts used, to http://willthompson.co.uk/misc/banshee-sqlite-bug-591298 in the hope that they'll be useful. Hi, Yavor Doganov wrote: BTW, I noticed something curious while examining the build log on kfreebsd-i386. All configure tests for /proc succeed, just like they do on GNU/Linux. Is /proc guaranteed to be mounted? If so, it is perhaps worth trying to build gnustep-base without libkvm. Hello, I guess that the actual end-user problem persists. The package has only recommends on a ppp version. The bug reports show that debian savvy users discovered that manually installing another ppp version could solve the problem. But the wrong dependency conf is still there (it only RECOMMENDS ppp (= 2.4.5) )and average user will get stuck without being able to stabilish conection with its Huawei 3G modem if previously installed 2.4.4, and it NEEDS 2.4.5 to work. Please, could you confirm this? Is there a better solution to the ppp dependency problem for 3G modem? It will likely surface again on dist-upgrades after squeeze release. Regards. Andre Felipe

I don't believe so, but sending /var/lib/GNUstep/Fonts/anything.nfont/FontInfo.plist will confirm that. (Preferrably, anything = DejaVu-related) Cynthiune segfaults: [1]25191 segmentation fault (core dumped) Cynthiune Disturbing. and see if you can spot some bugs (except the usual ones, I mean :-)). I guess that unfortunately counts as some bugs. :-( Absolutely. We (I) need to analyze them and clone/reassign as appropriate. Do they occur with gnustep-base/1.20.1-3 from the official archive? I see nothing that would lead me think so -- if NSProcessInfo + proc was not working on GNU/kFreeBSD, they would abort much earlier. Not sure if I did this right: $ gcc -I/usr/include/GNUstep -lobjc -o test test.m It is tiresome to run the whole command(s) directly, because many additional flags for the compiler/preprocessor/linker are necessary. Just use the makefile I sent you earlier (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=593898#20). I can give you ssh access to one (or both) of the Debian GNU/kFreeBSD porter machines Thanks, that would be very appreciated as I will run any tests myself without bothering you. But... isn't access restricted to DDs only? (I'll send you a separate message privately.) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#594567: drivers fail to load
The actual problem is that the libdbd*.so libraries are NOT linked against libdbi.so. The reason is an incorrect usage of AC_ARG_ENABLE(libdbi,...) in configure.in. Using configure --enable-libdbi thus has the opposite effect: it disables linking. BTW --enable-docs suffers from the same mistake. Bug#594603: monopd: Fails to stop daemon
Package: monopd Version: 0.9.3-4 Severity: grave Tags: patch Justification: renders package unusable The init script is unable to stop the monopd daemon because passes a mismatching argument to start-stop-damon. In the starting procedure it uses --exec /bin/su nobody -- -c $DAEMON, whereas stop, reload and force-reload symply use --exec $DAEMON. This cause a mismatch in the pid file that makes the script fail in stop-related action for the daemon. Fortunately James Westby provided a patch for bug #550348, which affects the same script. His correction fixes both issue, because removes the su invocation in the starting procedure. You should either : * ask the release team to remove totem-plugin-arte from squeeze * fix the package in a way the debdiff is little enough to get the upload approved by the release team Regards. -- Simon Paillard -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#593898: gnustep-back-common: Fails to upgrade in postinst script
tags 593898 + pending thanks [libk...@p.d.o BCCed -- relevant part at the end of the message.] Axel Beckert wrote: If not, then the -art backend package must surely depend on it. If yes, running with --GNU-Debug=ftfont might give some clues why this happens. As this just affects GWorkspace in experimental, shall I still try that? No, not needed. It is completely clear what's going on: once you upgraded gnustep-back to 0.18, its maintainer scripts wiped out the old (/var/lib/defoma/...) font directory, and the new version is patched to look at the new location (/var/lib/GNUstep/...) which we populate in postinst with the help of fc-list and mknfonts. Because the version of gworkspace in experimental was built against old GNUstep core combination, it naturally fails -- the old gnustep-gui GWorkspace links against dynamically opens the old art bundle, and there are no fonts available at the place it is looking. Expected situation, and not a bug in itself because the old (0.16) defoma-ized art backend has been broken long before that. Cynthiune segfaults: In then installed libgnustep-gui0.18-dbg, fired it up again it via SSH remotely and it didn't segfault anymore but showed up. Strange. Removed libgnustep-gui0.18-dbg again, still works. Very strange. Then I upgraded the gnustep-base packages to the version with /proc and without libkvm again. Still works. Looks like a Heisenbug to me. Worth analyzing. But now that you gave me an account, I'll do that myself. Maybe that's related to the downgrade of GWorkspace from experimental to unstable, too? Shouldn't be related, but it _might_ be due to the sequence in which you performed the other tests. Probably you tried GWorkspace first, which left a gdnc instance running, and/or possibly with the DO (Distributed Objects) database corrupted (because of the ABI-incompatible changes). Cynthiune uses DO intensively (for in-process inter-thread communication), so it's quite possible that something went wrong in the way. At some point probably GDNC invalidated itself and became non-functional, and then launching Cynthiune again should have spawned another gdnc instance, doing its job properly. Or, it might be an(other) NSThread/NSLock bug in GNUstep Base, or some implementations of the GUI classes not completely thread-safe... I'll try to reproduce and investigate. The most important thing is this: Here's the output of calling obj/test (with the non-libkvm but /proc-using version of gnustep-base being installed): PASS: +processInfo PASS: -arguments PASS: -environment PASS: -globallyUniqueString Unique string: metisse_ethz_ch_7d7b_122813f1_0 PASS: -hostName Hostname: metisse.ethz.ch 2010-08-27 17:40:33.094 test[32123] File NSProcessInfo.m: 1170. In determineOperatingSystem Unable to determine O/S ... assuming GNU/Linux PASS: -operatingSystem PASS: -operatingSystemName Operating system: GSGNULinuxOperatingSystem PASS: -operatingSystemVersionString Version: 8.0-1-686-smp PASS: -processIdentifier PID: 32123 PASS: -processName Process name: test PASS: -setProcessName: New process name: foo PASS: -setLogFile: Log file: /tmp/GNUstepSecure1000/NSProcessInfo_test This confirms that gnustep-base with /proc support is working properly on GNU/kFreeBSD -- all method tests pass, and you wouldn't be able to launch any program linked against -base if something was really wrong. I'm going to prepare an upload shortly. @libkvm people: The fact that kvm_getargv returns NULL during gnustep-base's initialization might be a libkvm bug. I'm hesitating to reassign (even with low severity), as I'm not sure at all. I downloaded the freebsd-libs package and looked at the manpage; there is no indication under what circumstances kvm_getargv is supposed to return NULL. I looked at the source too and I see a case when the function will do that, but I'm afraid I can't understand it without some further diving/reading -- something I'm currently unwilling to do, given that there's a clear way out and some other (GNUstep) RC bugs were discovered that need urgent fixing. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#594611: Trouble is in fact on lazarus-ide-qt4
Sorry, I should have look deeper before reporting. If I install lazarus-ide-gtk2, all works fine. Thanks to snapshot.debian.org, I try also - lazarus-ide-qt4_0.9.28.2-10_i386.deb - lazarus-ide-qt4_0.9.28.2-9_i386.deb but trouble is the same. There is no /usr/lib contents in lazarus-ide-qt4. Before that (2010-04-04), there was only lazarus-ide package. If I trust my ~/.lazarus, I probably install lazarus on 3rd january 2010 to test it. Since that, it has been updated by aptitude safe-upgrade but I did not try it again until now. Hope this is of better help than my previous report. Bug#594615: libconcord1: Remote update fails: Error while erasing flash
Package: libconcord1 Version: 0.22-2 Severity: critical Tags: squeeze sid Justification: causes serious data loss I'm trying to update Logitech Harmony 555 remote. I've tried with concordance and congruity and both fail at the same point. So I think the problem is with libconcord. Connectivity tests work fine but both programs fail while erasing flash. This leaves the remote in non-working state. The whole remote hangs and all buttos are unresponsive. Even removing and resetting batteries don't help. I've tried this with package versions libconcord1 0.22-1 and 0.22-2 and concordance 0.22-1 and 0.22-2. Both fail similary. I can get the remote working again using package versions 0.21-5 of libconcord1 and concordance. Luckily I was able to grap those before they were removed from the server. With these versions the remote update completes and the remote is alive once again. The unresponsive remote scared me good, though. I would think that someone not having these older versions or knowledge how to install them is in serious trouble with his/hers remote. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fi_FI.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fi_FI.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libconcord1 depends on: ii libc62.11.2-2Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.4-8 GCC support library ii libstdc++6 4.4.4-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libusb-0.1-4 2:0.1.12-15 userspace USB programming library libconcord1 recommends no packages. libconcord1 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#594472: How to get to your data and back up
I managed to get down to my data. Using the Debian NetInstall CD I booted into rescue mode Select language, territory and keyboard as applicable to you. Cancel network autoconfig, if that does not work for you (for me that is the case), and enter appropriate data. Select any hostname and domain System will then come up and ask for the passphrases of the single disks, do *not* enter your passphrase there, just continue. Select Do not use a root file system Select Execute a shell in the installer environment Then use the commands below (preceded by #) to bring your vg and lv's online: # cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/mdx vg-name Enter Passphrase: x Key Slot x unlocked. # vgscan Reading all physical volumes. Found volumegroup x . # vgchange -a y x logical volumes in volume group x now active # exit At this point the rescuemode menu reappears select choose a different root file system Select your root and execute a shell - voila you got your data (you may need to enter 'mount -a' in the shell to get all LV's mounted. At this point you can back up your data and reinstall - if you wanted. For me - I backed up and now try some grub2 settings. maybe I can get it back working. Will post if I have success. I would appreciate a little help with this -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
